The Stars of the Academy

The Hall of Arcane Trials gradually emptied as the final results were announced. Some students left with bright smiles, proudly carrying their acceptance badges. Others walked away in silence, disappointed that they had failed to enter the Faculty of Magic and Ancient Arts. Astera stood quietly near one of the crystal pillars, observing everything around her. She had passed. But unlike many of the other students, she wasn't celebrating. For her, this was only the first step. The truth she sought still lay somewhere beyond the academy walls. A sharp chime echoed throughout the hall. An academy official stepped onto the central platform. "Attention." "All successful candidates are requested to proceed to the Grand Assembly Hall." "The orientation for the Advanced Royal Program will begin shortly." The words immediately caught everyone's attention. Students began whispering excitedly. "The Royal Program?" "I heard only the best students are selected." "My brother said that's where the future Alphas study." "I never thought I'd get in." Astera quietly followed the crowd. --- The Grand Assembly Hall was unlike anything she had ever seen. It resembled the throne room of an ancient empire more than an academy. Massive crystal chandeliers floated beneath the domed ceiling. Four enormous banners hung proudly from opposite walls. The crimson phoenix of the Inferno Pack. The sapphire wave of the Ocean Tide Pack. The emerald mountain of the Earth Pack. The silver hawk of the Sky Pack. Each banner represented one of the Four Great Packs that had ruled the Wolf Realm for centuries. Rows upon rows of students filled the hall. Yet everyone instinctively left the front seats empty. Almost as if they belonged to someone. Astera noticed. Interesting... --- Dean Aurelius stepped onto the stage once again. "Welcome." "You are no longer ordinary applicants." "You are now students of the Royal Alpha University." Applause echoed across the hall. He raised one hand, and silence immediately returned. "Among the thousands of students admitted this year..." "Only a select few have qualified for the Advanced Royal Program." "The future leaders of the Wolf Realm." "The heirs." As soon as he spoke the final word... The enormous doors opened. Every head turned. --- The first to enter wore a perfectly tailored black academy uniform with crimson trim. His posture was straight. His expression unreadable. Golden eyes calmly swept across the hall. Prince Draven Ashfire. Future Alpha of the Inferno Pack. No announcement was necessary. Everyone already knew him. Students immediately stood aside to clear a path. Some whispered respectfully. "The strongest student of the Fire Pack." "They say he has never lost a duel." "The future Alpha..." Draven acknowledged no one. He simply walked to the front row before taking his seat. Alone. Without looking at anyone. Astera watched him quietly. Her expression remained calm. Yet memories she desperately wanted to forget briefly surfaced. The volcano. The chains. His final decision. She slowly looked away. Not now. --- Moments later... Heavy footsteps echoed through the hall. A tall young man entered wearing the emerald colors of the Earth Pack. Unlike Draven's intimidating presence... His felt reassuring. Strong. Steady. Like a mountain. Flint Earthclaw. The future Alpha of the Earth Pack. Several students immediately waved at him. Instead of ignoring them... He smiled warmly and greeted them back. "Morning." "Congratulations." "You all did well." His simple kindness instantly eased the tension in the room. Even the professors smiled. Astera noticed. People naturally trusted him. That itself was a rare strength. Flint spotted Astera standing near the middle rows. He gave her a polite nod. She returned it. Nothing more. Nothing less. --- Before the whispers settled... A loud laugh echoed through the hall. Everyone turned. A young man with silver-white hair casually walked through the entrance, his academy blazer hanging over one shoulder instead of being worn properly. He looked more like someone arriving at a festival than orientation. Students immediately sighed. "He's late..." "Again." He placed both hands behind his head. "Relax." "I arrived before it officially started." One professor pinched the bridge of his nose. "As expected of you." The young man grinned. "What can I say?" "The wind never follows schedules." Laughter spread across the hall. Dean Aurelius simply shook his head. "This..." "...is Zephyr Skye." "Heir of the Sky Pack." Astera raised an eyebrow. Despite his carefree attitude... His eyes constantly observed everything around him. Nothing escaped his notice. He noticed people while pretending not to. Interesting... As Zephyr searched for a seat... His eyes briefly landed on Astera. "Haven't seen her before." He murmured thoughtfully. Then he smiled. "This year's going to be fun." --- The final heir entered almost unnoticed. Unlike the others... She walked with complete confidence. Long sea-blue hair. Sharp blue eyes. Elegant posture. Princess Nerina Tide. Future leader of the Ocean Tide Pack. Unlike Draven's coldness... Or Flint's warmth... Nerina carried herself with undeniable confidence. She greeted several professors before taking her place. Many students admired her openly. "The Ocean Princess..." "I heard she's undefeated in water manipulation." "She's beautiful..." "And terrifying." Nerina's eyes wandered through the crowd. They immediately found Astera. A small smile appeared. Almost impossible for anyone else to notice. Astera gave the slightest nod in return. No one suspected they already knew one another. To everyone present... They were merely fellow students. Exactly as planned. --- Dean Aurelius looked toward the four heirs. "These four students have represented their respective packs since childhood." "They are among the academy's highest-ranked students." "They have earned the title..." "The Stars of the Royal Alpha University." The title carried immense weight. For generations, the Stars had been the strongest, smartest, and most influential students of the academy. Every first-year student looked at them with admiration. Some with envy. Others with determination. Astera simply observed. Stars... Even stars could fall. --- The Dean continued. "This year..." "One additional student has been selected to study alongside the Stars." The hall instantly became silent. Students looked around in confusion. One more? Who? Dean Aurelius looked directly toward Astera. "Ariana Tidewell." Hundreds of eyes immediately turned toward her. Astera remained perfectly calm. She slowly stepped forward. Whispers exploded throughout the hall. "Who is she?" "I've never heard that name." "Why would a newcomer study with the heirs?" "She can't even be from a royal bloodline." Flint smiled faintly. He wasn't surprised. Draven silently watched her. Again... That strange feeling returned. He couldn't explain it. She seemed... Familiar. Yet completely unfamiliar at the same time. Zephyr leaned toward Flint. "So..." "Think she's interesting?" Flint answered honestly. "I think she's hiding something." Zephyr grinned. "So am I." Nerina secretly fought the urge to smile. She knew exactly how hard Astera had worked to reach this moment. --- Dean Aurelius continued. "The Advanced Royal Program is not reserved for heirs." "It is reserved for those with exceptional potential." "Status means nothing inside these walls." "Only ability." The whispers slowly faded. Students reluctantly accepted the Dean's decision. Whether they liked it or not... Ariana Tidewell now belonged among the academy's brightest students. --- Academy attendants handed each member of the Advanced Royal Program a silver badge engraved with the academy crest. As Astera accepted hers, Dean Aurelius quietly added, "Beginning tomorrow..." "You five will attend every advanced lecture together." "Combat." "Leadership." "Ancient Magic." "History." "Practical Survival." "And inter-pack strategy." "You will train together." "You will compete against one another." "You will succeed..." "Or fail..." "As classmates." Astera glanced toward the other four. Draven remained expressionless. Flint offered another polite nod. Zephyr gave her a cheerful wave. Nerina simply crossed her arms, hiding her satisfaction. Five students. Four future Alphas. One mysterious girl carrying secrets older than any of them could imagine. None of them realized that this single classroom would one day determine the fate of the entire Wolf Realm. Some would become allies. Some would become rivals. Some would become family. And somewhere between duty, betrayal, and destiny... Love would quietly begin to grow where no one expected it. The story of the Five Stars of the Royal Alpha University had finally begun.
