Only moments had passed since Omar's conversation with the elderly sheikh when the stillness of the night was shattered by the roar of engines approaching the British building.
The ancient walls trembled under the echoing sounds, and two cars screeched to a halt at the main entrance. Shouts followed—men brandishing old Russian rifles and gleaming pistols under the moonlight.
Suddenly—the night erupted with a hail of bullets.
Rapid shots struck the walls of the old British building, sending bricks and dust scattering across the hall. The ceiling shuddered under the impact, and the broken windows rattled, sending shards of glass clattering like deadly confetti.
