The Truth

"Brother, November 12-15, that year, Anna left for Hongkong to represent the company on behalf of Marie in the business dinner with the Asian Mall executives. That was the time you rushed from Europe to Hongkong for the said business deal. But the tragedy happened. So the deal was postponed." Narrated Jack.

"Did Anna arrive at the meeting place that time?" asked Matthew.

"You know what, let's talk about it tonight. How about you treat me for a drink?" said Jack.

"Don't make me ask you twice, Jack. Or I will send you to home." Matthew is annoyed.

"Woah... easy brother. I will answer you now." Jack said."The woman who saved you that night is Anna Lucia Lim." said Jack.

Matthew did not say anything. He is patiently waiting for the information Jack found. He already knew the name of her saviour because she left a statement at the police investigator that night. The strange thing is that he cannot find Anna Lucia Lim. He hired a local investigator in Hongkong to locate the woman but he failed. The perpetrators that night were caught, but the woman who saved him was missing.

Jack pulled a folder from tye file and opened it in front of Matthew.

"Anna Miranda. December 5, 1996. Annulled with one dependent: Lorenzo Gabriel Miranda Lim." carefully and slowly, Jack read the file of Anna.

"What?!" Matthew was shocked. How can he not think about that? Anna is annulled so preferably that time she was using her husband's surname.

"She was your saviour and angel all along." Jack stand up and went to the cabinet behind Matthew's desk. He picked up two wine glasses and a bottle of wine. He poured wine on the glass and gave it to Matthew. The two drank their wines without a word. Both were lost in their thoughts.

"Ask Marie to come over. Let me talk to her alone." Jack nodded and left the room.

Marie came. Matthew asked away. Although she is confused, Marie explained the incident. Her mother had a heart attack a day before that travel to Hongkong. So she sent Anna instead as she knew the company very well and she was among the ones who worked on that business proposal. She notified Matthew that time that was why Matthew rushed to Hong Kong because he cannot let an assistant handle such a big project. And the rest is history.

"Because that meeting was cancelled, she rushed back home, Sir, only to catch her husband red-handed. That was a very heavy blow on Anna. She made herself buried at work so she could forget her husband. In return, she was promoted and after two years, their marriage was annulled." Marie's long narration.

"I am sorry, Sir, but I think I crossed the line. I shouldn't have said that. That matter was very personal to Anna. OMG, what have I done." Marie slapped her forehead.

"No, don't worry. This is between the two of us. No one will know that. Now, get back to work." He dismissed Marie.

"Thank you." Marie said as she hurried to the door. afraid that she might leak other personal things about her friend.

Matthew stand still at the glass wall of his office, looking at the busy street outside.No one knew what he was thinking at the moment.
