Secret Project

As I descend the stairs, the door behind my closes and the lighting becomes dim. I spit a couple of small fire balls at the torches on the walls as I continue my claim down. The dark earth covered walls slowly turn into smooth bright white tile as I reach the bottom of the stairs. Large glass sliding doors appear in front of me and open once I approach. A smile runs across my face as a see 3 familiar faces. Joey, Abigail, and Ren rush around the lab with charts, viles, and wires. Abigail stops dead when she sees me and squeals. "Madame, you have decided to visit us!" Her accent was not of this world, but was very elegant. She said it is French and is the reason my father believes in other worlds. We found her curled up at the base of a tree when she was 6 years old. She is not a Dragon, but can still fly with the wings of a dragonfly bug. She stood at 4' 7" and had white hair that was almost silver. No one outside the royal family knows of her and we all want to keep it that way. "Of course Abigail, you are my favorite people. Plus I decided to see how the project is coming along." She smiled and walked over to a cabinet and started digging. "Oui, of course we are. Let me just find...." She drifted off as she focused. "Ignore her. She is trying to find something that has finished its testing phase yet." Joey whined and he sat in a desk chair and began mixing colored liquids. He was a average looking guy with short dirty blonde hair. Suddenly an object flew across the room and hit his head. "WHAT WAS THAT FOR!" He yelled. Ren looked at the charts in his hand as if nothing happened. He had longer black hair that normally covered his eyes and always spoke so low and soft. He is very handsome if he brushes his hair back. "I dont know what you are yelling about, but that isnt the mind of behavior to show in front of the Queen. Besides, you would know we finished testing it..." "FOUND IT!" interrupted Abigail and she bounced over to me. " Ici Madame." She handed my a dark gray band  about an inch wide with a green stone in the center. "What is this?" I held it in both hands, turning it every which way to try and figured out what it was. "That is the finished product of the Dimensional Portal." Ren said smugly as if he gave birth to it. Suddenly Joey snatched it. "It isnt finished, all we have gotten to go back and forth is sheep and other small creatures. We have no one to test it on to see if it truly works for Dragon travel." He held it above Abigail's head and she try jumping for it like a child. "Why not test it on me?" As soon as I said that they all stopped dead and stared at me. " NO NO NO! We have no way to know if you will survive or come back!" Joey looked at me like I was crazy. "For once I agree with Joey. Madame is to important to be a test subject." I looked at Ren who looked deep in thought. "I think that it is a wonderful Idea actually. We designed this with royal blood and if anyone can you this, it would be the Queen." Abigail ran up to me and hugged me as tight as her little arms could. "But what is she never makes it back Ren?" I pat her head and look at Ren. " We have the fail safe." He holds up a glowing necklace. "As long as you wear this you will always be brought back her when we summon you back. Only downside is, you dont get to chose when you come home. We have to make that judgment call and we dont know how time moves on the other worlds." He handed me the gold chain. It was warm to the touch. "Im okay with that, I need to try to see if this works. We might even be able to get you back home and see what you are." I looked at Abigail who had tears in her eyes. "I dont care about going home, je t'aime Madame." I held her close and rubbed her back. "I know you want to stay, but We need to fin out about your past at least." She sniffled and nodded finally agreeing to letting me test the bracelet. "Joey, hand it over." I demanding sticking me hand out towards him. He crossed his arms and glared at me. "You are going to have to command me. I wont do it willingly." I sighed, he knew how much I hated using my command. Any leader of a clan has the power of command that no lower ranked Dragon can refuse. I didnt like taking away their free will in certain decisions, but this time I knew he would not give me the bracelet other wise. "Joey, Hand me the bracelet."  My voice came out with such power and almost like a song. Joey stood straight and handed me the bracelet without saying a word. Once I took the bracelet, he stance became relaxed and he walked away to pout at the desk. "Alright then, how does this work?" I turned to Ren and Abigail. "That is the easy part. First put the bracelet on your left arm and the necklace around your neck." Ren instructed and helped me with the clasps. " Once they are fully on, you press the stone the the bracelet. A portal will open in front of you. Whatever you do, do not remove the bracelet. That is what will allow you to travel through the portals and survive in whatever environment you find yourself it. If you are in another world, press the stone again to open a portal home. If we feel you have taken to long to return with a status update, your necklace will glow green when we summon you back. It... might hurt just a little. Kinda like a soreness in your neck. But you will be fine." I nodded as I absorbed the details. Abigail handed me a small note book with more clear instructions on the processes. "Alright my Queen, You have the basics now. Are you ready to try this? For the first test we will pull you back in 10 minutes if you dont return before then." I double check that the bracelet and necklace are secure. "Lets do this!" I press the stone and a hole showing different trees and grass that are so different from what grows here. "Wow" The three smile at their work and my reaction.
