Chapter 19
The ride with the detective was quiet as we drove towards Kayla Jones’ home. It wasn't too far away, but was far enough that the path of David, Renée, and Kayla would not intertwine. I said nothing, not wanting to disturb the detective's train of thought. I was sure he was preparing the questions he wanted to ask Kayla. In the silence, I was trying to wrap my head around the fact that I had missed all the signals of Kayla being involved in an affair. I knew her life had changed drastically in the last year. Her husband divorced her and left, and her daughter was entering her senior year of high school. Between her babysitting activities and school obligations, her daughter was wrapped up in her own life and Kayla found herself at home increasingly alone.
