Chapter 36
When Sam went to school Monday, she tried to act normal but she felt as if everyone knew something was different with her. When she was eating lunch with Kim, Janie came over to join them and asked, “So what is new?” It was a simple question asked many times before but she felt as if Janie already knew the answer.
Sam choked on her soda and Kim asked her, “Are you okay?”
Sam answered, “Yes, I’m fine. I just forgot how to drink for a second,” as she hoped that Meri stayed true to her word and didn’t say anything to her sister. The three girls continued with lunch and while they were talking, Janie and Kim noticed that that Sam seemed oddly different.
