Act One
Sharon Lycon is the daughter of Luis Lycon, a direct descendant of Lycaon, the king of Arcadia. According to legend King Lycaon was a king who wanted to test the omnipotence of Zeus by sacrificing his son to Zeus. Lycaon killed one of his sons and served his internal entrails to Zeus. Zeus who was disgusted, cursed Lycaon and his seeds to work the earth as shapeshifters, half wolf and half man, a werewolf.
For generations passed the story became myth and from myth it became legend. But as in every story of myth, there is a taste of truth to it. The Lycon family have endured throughout the ages, birthing offspring who not only inherited the name of their forebearers but also inherited the curse that came with it.
Sharon was not any different in this, she was born into a werewolf royalty that governed to a large extent, the shadow and predatory life of werewolves around the world, be it born werewolves or turned werewolves who are normal people who were bitten by werewolves and inherited the curse of the werewolf.
Sharon is obsessed with being a normal girl and does not like being a werewolf because of the aggression and the uncontrollable predatory life that comes with being a werewolf, the temper, the blood lust and the full moon. Her family, unlike other werewolves, have the ability to shapeshift at will at anytime, but they are still subject to the curse of the full moon as it was recorded that Lycaon was cursed by Zeus on a full moon.
Although, her part of the family is very distant, in terms of hereditary, from the head of the Lycon family, a lot is still expected from them as members of the Lycon family to live up to as exemplary werewolves in the wolf community. This pressure adds to Sharon’s unwillingness to live like the rest of her family and desire a new life free from the family saga and subject to the standard that comes with the family name.
Sharon moves into the big city to experience what it feels like to be a single woman in the city. She is amazed by the city and how people live in the city. Having grown up among members of the pack, she has always been subjected to the hierarchy of the pack and following the laws of the pack. But when she gets to the city, the first thing she notices is the freedom that everyone possesses. No one feels intimidated or obliged to the other person and it surprises her.
While en route to the city, she notices that inside the train, all the seats are occupied with people of different colours and races. Some people are standing because there is no sitting space for them. She notices the different clothes and designs that people in the train are putting on. She observes the behaviour of everybody in her coach. A little child of four years old is staring at her and she makes a funny face at the child which makes the child laugh. She then sees a fat man sleeping on the train and a younger boy trying to pick the man’s pocket. She throws a piece of paper that she finds on the floor on the fat man’s mouth which wakes the man from sleep. The young boy who was picking the pocket sits up and gives Sharon an angry look but she just chuckles and looks away.
Coming out of the train and into the train station, Sharon notices the large crowd of people that make use of the train. People of all backgrounds and professions. Some people are carrying their pets and some are carrying luggage. Everyone has somewhere they are heading to, the corporate people, the contractors and engineers, the woke kids and young adults, people at the ticketing stand and people going in and out of the toilet. She notices those sitting around the station and those loitering around. The scene blows her away and she is enthusiastic and scared of the journey that she is about to embark on.
Sharon arrives her new neighbourhood and it is completely different from the kind of life that she grew up to know. The buildings are more alike and closer to each other. The street is full of people going about their business and no one minding the other’s business. As the taxi drives by, she sees a policeman going after a middle-aged man. The man being pursued barely escapes a group of women coming out of a*****e and runs into a table and falls on the floor which leads to the policeman catching him. This excites Sharon and she feels her pulse rising.
When she arrives her apartment, the apartment is small compared to what she is used to. There is enough space for her to put her things, which are the two travelling bags and a bigger box in her hands. She drops the bags on the floor and goes to check the kitchen to see the contents of the kitchen and there is a cooker by the wall. She goes to the sink and turns on the tap and water runs through. She feels the water and rinses her hands. Then she scoops some of the water into her hands and takes a drink. She goes to the window to look outside the window and observe the neighborhood. She is fascinated by the view, being that the apartment is on the fourth floor of the house.
She goes to picks up her luggage and heads to her wardrobe. She notices the difference in the quality and size of the wood used in building the wardrobe. She takes a deep breath and puts the bags inside the wardrobe. She brings out of the bags and opens the bag to bring out a bottle of whiskey. She opens the bottle and takes a long gulp directly from the bottle. She then locks the bag and pushes it into the wardrobe before closing the wardrobe.
She heads over to the window and sits on the floor and starts drinking the whiskey while she is going through her phone.
