CALISTA MALVINSKI

Calista Malvinski An overwhelming sense of sadness washed over me as I looked up to the huge poster in front of the school gate, pressing my lips tightly at the same time swallowing a deep breath. BEAK WEREWOLF ACADEMIA. Home to some. Hell to others. I drew the string of my hoodie to cover the entirety of my face and made my way to the front door. My feets came to a halt, ignoring the bumps and nudges of several students who were entering as I breathed in the last piece of good and calm air I might be getting till the end of the day. At Beak werewolf Academia, especially for students like me, the only time where you get a breath of fresh, undiluted air is the morning before you meet the monsters in human clothing fashioned against your entire existence. I let out another sigh before making my way to the classroom, allowing myself to drown in the steps of my boots which made sounds at every step I took and also a great distraction to the turmoil that was boiling deep within me. My two feets came to another stop the moment I reached the familiar door of my classroom, or my hellhole, and I swallowed down again. I shut my eyes, taking multiple breaths with my grip tightening on the arm of my bag. “Breathe, Lista. They might not be there.” I muttered to myself, my anxiety slowly creeping into my mind and crowding my entire heart. For years now, my life has been a torment in this school. Every day I wake up, I wish I could go somewhere different, somewhere peaceful, but either way I always end up in front of the school. And in the front of my classroom where my greatest tormentors were already waiting for me. I opened my eyes and pushed the door open, my heart dropping to the farthest part of my stomach. They never disappoint. “Here she is.” Keisha, the daughter of the beta yelled out, stepping down from the table she was seating on. I tightened my grip on my bag as she walked towards me, stopping right in front of me with her large brown doe eyes staring straight into mine. I clenched my jaw as she flicked my forehead, hissing out loudly. “How dare you stare back at me?” She hissed again. “I’ve been waiting for you to get here and the first thing you do is look at me with your filthy eyes?” I lowered my eyes instantly, gritting my teeth together as I muttered an apology to her. “I’m sorry.” “Sorry?” I raised my head back up to meet his eyes. Asher Stanley, the biggest bully of the school and my second greatest tormentor. He walked towards us, eyeing me down as he chewed disgustingly. “Where have you been?” He asked, still eyeing me. I gulped down, carefully finding the words before responding. It was a crime not to respond, and also a crime to respond stupidly. “My…my father didn’t.. A loud slap echoed through the entire room and my head spinned to the side. Tears burned at the back of my eyes, stinging badly to drop out of my eyes as I clenched my jaw. I sniffed in. I could not cry. Crying only made it worse. I turned back to look at them, lowering my eyes to both of their shoes as I started again, “my father… My words were cut abruptly as Asher took a step towards me, my heart skipping a beat at how close we were. “My father,” I started again, ignoring how close we were. I just needed to answer them, and obey them. And I’ll be spared. “My father.. “Look at me,” Asher cut me off. I raised my head to look at him, fear pounding in my chest at the hell in his eyes. The corners of his lips curled up into a smirk as his eyes flicked to the cap of my hoodie. “Lista…” he called out, raising his hand as he tugged the cap off my hair. “Urghh.” Keisha groaned beside him, stepping close to me as her hand reached for my hair. “To have your hair is a die for. I don’t know why the goddess would decide to bless a useless and worthless being like you with great things.” I ignored the jab and pain of her words as Asher grabbed both of my cheeks in his hands, a burning pain instantly coursing through me. “We’re now in senior year, the least you can do is reveal your body.” My throat tightened as Keisha tugged down my hair, a bundle of pain weighing on my scalp. “Slap her,” Keisha giggled out, tugging my hair down and more painful. I squeezed my eyes shut as I felt the impact of Asher’s palm on my cheeks. Before I could recover from the first one, his hand connected with my other cheek again, and my scalp tugged down again. My heart tightened in my rib cage as the pain burned through me, tears welling up in my closed eyes. “You know why you’re being punished, Lista?” Keisha’s breath fanned against my ear. Another slap met my face instantly before Asher gripped my jaw harshly, “you respond when she talk to you, understood?” “Yes....” I replied, my voice croak with hurt. “Do you know why I punish you so much, Lista?” She repeated. “N…no…nop..” I stuttered, the back of my eyes burning hardly with more tears growing in my eyes. “Because you have all the things I want to have. You have the hair, you have the body even though you try to hide it under your hideous clothing. And your eyes,” I clenched my jaw painfully as she tugged my hair more, breathing down to my neck now, “that’s the main reason I hate you the most. When you stare at me with those golden orbs, I want to stab you multiple times and watch you die.” “I..I’m sorry..” This was not the first time Keisha was telling me she hated me, and everytime she said it. Everytime I faced this, I had to apologize. I had to tell her I was sorry… “I’m sorry for having this things. I’m sorry for being so undeserving of them, whe…when..you can have them..” I didn’t ask for any of it from the moon goddess or my parents. I never did. And yet I had to apologize for having them. My heart froze in my heart as I felt a wetness slid down my eyes and down my face, a panting shiver running down my spine. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to cry! Please!” I yelled out quickly, opening my eyes as more tears dropped. A chuckle escaped both of their lips at the same time, Keisha pulling me more with her grip and pushing me off from her. I went on my knees without question, my eyes wide open with fear, staring at the two Gods in front of me. “I didn’t mean to cry! I swear, I had no idea the tears were in my eyes. Please! Please!” The more I begged, the more the tears rolled down my eyes. Asher walked towards me, wrapping one palm of his around my throat as he raised me up. “Haven't I warned you?” My eyes widened in fear as I raised my hand to struggle but kept it back. If I touched him, it was more trouble. “Ple…pleas.. “Havent I warned you not to shed your f*****g tears! Are you trying to flirt with me!” He growled out to my face, Keisha walked towards me and pulled me up, making me stand on my feet and easier for Asher to squeeze the life out of me. “Such a slut. Using your tears to make him like you?” She eyed me distastefully and with contempt. “P…” I coughed out, unable to form the rest of the words. “What’s going on here?” A deep masculine voice resounded from the door. Asher’s hand slipped away from my neck instantly, both of my hands flying to massage it as I gobbled for air. “Lo…Logan…” At the sound of the name, I turned back to meet a particular black eyes that had no soul in it, no depth, no happiness, just black staring straight at Asher with emptiness. His eyes flicked to me instantly and my heart skipped a beat. He eyed me down before meeting my eyes again, “Were you bullying her?” “No..no…” “Why would we bully her? Why would we waste our time on someone worthless like her?” I heard Keisha say and I snapped my head towards her. It felt like the temperature dropped at the end of her words and the entire classroom went cold. Even the little murmurs of the other classmates who has been ignoring us for minutes subsided, and I could feel the entire eyes on us. Or on Him. Everyone was scared of Logan. Including me. Asides the fact that he was the alpha’s son, and there are various rumors circulating him, the way he looked at someone could make you want the ground to open and swallow you, instead of facing his wrath. “What did you say?” He asked, his black eyes staring directly at Keisha and his voice dripping with menace. “Do..don’t mind her Logan..she’s just tired. She’s..” I watched Asher pull Keisha into his arms, deeply apologizing as they returned to their seat. I gulped down and looked at him, watching his soulless eyes follow them before flicking them towards me. He eyed my entire body once again before meeting my eyes and staring into it, muttering two words that plunged the entire class into hushed whispering which also meant my doom. “Follow me.”
