The party was in full swing. Getting late. People were gossiping about what had happened.
Did you hear? Emma quit today.
Yeah it's a shame, I mean for a human she was at least nice.
I heard she quit because of Amber.
I don't blame her, Amber treated her really badly. I think she made her cry a few times.
I would too if I had to deal with her. She didn't deserve it. We don't either, and this bimbo is going to be our Luna.
I think Emma and he had something low key. He was so upset when he left. Kinda sad, actually.
Aiden chugged back his champagne bottle, his brother looking at him, 'I told you so'
Amber, meanwhile, was wearing a shimmering gold dress with a slit up her knee and showing plenty of cleavage. She was hearing plenty too. Things that she didn't like.
Did you hear? Emma left. Aiden was so upset he broke his desk!
That's nothing, they saw him with her, he looked like he was going to cry?
Aiden crying? Wow that's a new one.
He practically begged her not to go. BEGGED. I think they had something.
Well DUH He grabbed her arm and hugged her! Hugged! Like a darn Werewolf novella.
Amber turns around swiftly, glaring at the group. "You dare talk about that human at MY engagement party?" She growls out
"Err s-sorry Luna. We-we were just talking about today is all," the girl said meekly
"I hope you were joking."
"N-no we all saw it. He was really uspet." She adds
Amber glares at them, "Don't. Bring her up ever. In front of either of us."
They gulp and nod.
Amber looked over to Aiden, who was less than happy with his brother. Was there truth to him being in love with Emma? Lunar goddess hopes not!
She saunters over to Aiden, "Darling." She purrs, "It's getting late." Her heart pounds with anticipation.
He stands up, slightly drunk. She clinks her glass for everyone's attention.
They all turn to him.
He chugs back the last bit of liquid courage. His brother sighs, doing the same. He pulls out the letter that Emma gave him.
"Awe baby you didn't have to-" Amber sniffed, thinking he wrote her a love letter.
"No, I want you to read it. outloud.
She takes it, she looks it over, she glares at him "What is this?"
"Read. It." He growls
She swallows. Biting her tongue. "To my next Assistant, This is what you should know about Aiden Blackwood.
The rumors about him aren't true, okay maybe they are- He's incredibly stubborn, hard headed, and has a temper."
A few chuckles at that.
"But he is a very loyal person, the kind of person, or rather wolf, you'd want to be loyal to."
Gwad who wrote that? I'm going to cry
So touching. Who wrote it?
Amber swallows, "You need to be patient with him. Also remember he eats, he forgets to a lot." She stops reading
"What is this Aiden?"
"Do you know anything about me?" Aiden asks
She looks confused "I mean, you like driving your BMW more, you like sports watches not gold- and-"
"No, no I-" "Deeper than materialistic BS." He says
She makes a face, "Well, there's hum time to learn that right? in a relationship."
"You've been with me for a YEAR and you tell me you can't name one thing about me?"
She swallows, tears forming, "Well WHAT about me!"
He snorts "There is plenty about you- you treat people like they're your lapdog!" He snaps
He turns to the crowd "I'm really sorry everyone, she wasted your time."
Her eyes widened, He- was dumping her?
"Is- are you, dumping me?"
"I am." He said coldly "You- are far from my mate, or Luna. Amber."
"You undermine me, you treat my employees of low status, even though." He chuckles
"You're just a beta yourself." He sneers at her
She cowers at that "Is- is this about the human. Right?"
"Its more than that Amber, I only tolerated you to satisfy my urges, but it's long gone."
She scoffs. "You little-"
The door suddenly bursts open, Chrissy was panting. She ran in her kitsune form. "A-Alpha Aiden." She rasps
He blinks "What is it?"
"Emma- Emma. Something, I don't know what's wrong with her, but she's really, really sick!" She whimpers "You need to help her right now!" Her face is panic.
Aiden's face falls. He looks to his brother who urges him to go. He starts to leave- Amber grabs him, Aiden throws her down on the ground, in a low growl, his wolf eyes showing. She cowers.
"You can leave Amber."
"You-you can't do this- to me!" She cries "Over this human really!"
"She is worth far more than you." he said coldly "If you even think of hurting her, I will kill you."
There were whispers,
Wow did he really love Emma?
He just dumped Amber.
Thank God. She would've been a horrible Luna.
Amber is embarrassed, her cheeks flush. Humiliated.
Aiden leaves and follows Chrissy.
She swears she'd make that Human pay for today.
At Emma's apartment-
She hurt. Why did she hurt so bad? she whimpers, she was cold. cold. why?
Chrissy opens the door leading Aiden inside, he's never been here.
"Emma- Emma." Chrissy says gently
She's shaking. Whimpering. Aiden frowns. Was it because of the engagement and rejection? Why was she a human, suffering the effects of a wolf rejection?
"Emma." Aiden says
She whimpers "A-alpha?" She asks weakly.
"I'm here," He says gently, petting her sweat-filled head.
She whimpers "Hurts. Everything. Why."
Aiden swallows, "I'm, I'm so sorry Emma. I didn't know you were my mate. I'm not sure why I couldn't sense it."
Emma whimpers, pain. He crawls under the covers with her, holding her close to him. Hoping his heat and scent can calm her down.
"Its okay Emma." He cooes.
She stops shaking, Her breathing calms down. She snuggles into him. His scent, his scent filled her body. He strokes her hair, "That's a good girl."
Chrissy breathes a sigh of relief.
"When did this happen?" He asks her
"Err last night. Actually. She, just felt this pain. Uhm then this morning it was worse, and she didn't get up, and had a fever." Chrissy says
Aiden nods. A wolf rejection was the most painful experience one could have. It was like having a kidney stone.
"She's human, though. Why, why is she having wolf symptoms." Chrissy asks outloud
"She's my mate," Aiden says to her. I'm not sure why either, or a lot of things about her. I couldn't sense she was a mate until yesterday."
Chrissy's eyes widened a little. "Oh wow."
"Her scent, her thoughts. "I can't tell either." He says.
Chrissy sits down, Emma was looking better. Clinging to Aiden, who had her in his arms.
His brother comes in, "Party's over, but uh Amber threw a fit and may have used her car to uh run into stuff."
He sighs, "I'm not surprised."
Blaze coughs "Wow brother, your pheromones are- whew."
He glares at him. "Shut it."
"How'd you not know she was your mate for three years?"
He frowns, that was a true mystery and even more so why he couldn't smell her scent or read her thoughts like everyone else.
Emma wakes up, "Aiden." She whispers "Don't- you have your engagement tonight?"
He smiles, "Canceled."
Her face falls, "Aiden, I don't understand why, I feel like this. It felt like I was being crushed."
He swallows looking at her, "Emma, You're my mate."
Her eyes widened. She, was his mate. "But- Amber-"
He scoffs "She was not my mate." He said "I- was rushing into things, I think. I almost made a mistake. I'm sorry."
She looks at him, her heart pounds and kisses him. The vibration signaled in her entire body, this was right, and she was his.
He holds her tightly against him. To think a few short hours ago he could've made a horrible mistake. But now, the question remains, how was a human his mate?
