Chapter 8

I looked toward the source of the noise. It was the girl from earlier. That's funny. I was so sure I had killed her.  "I can't believe I fell for that bullshit." Beta boy looked pissed, "No human could kill a wolf, let alone a ranking family." Through his anger, he still looked relieved that she was alive. "I bet you aren't even his mate, are you?" "She's not. I am," said the girl. "But she's hardly human, is she?" That's when it clicked. She did die. She had just been sent back. The problem is only two people could do that, one of them was me, and the other is my father. He must've given her the starter manual during her vacation. "Why are you here? Why did he send you back? What does he want? What angle is he playing?"  "No angle. He just wants you back. Like any good father would. He just wants his family back."  "He was never a father, let alone a good one. Also, I don't care what he wants, so he can kiss my ass. I'm never going back." Liam chimed in, "Who? And you aren't going anywhere." "Shut up, Liam, the adults are talking." He stopped talking. "I need you to conference with my father. Tell him that I don't give a flying f**k what he says, I will never go back. I don't care if I have to slaughter every one he send after me." "That may be hard." "What?" "This one you will never see coming, and the last thing you want to do is see them dead. Just watch your back. Oh, and I'm not going back to hell. I can't go back there." Her eyes pricked with tears. Time's different down there. She could've been there for hours, days, months, and theoretically, even years. "That's funny," I said as I walked up to her, "Cause' I thought death looked good on you." And with that, I snapped her neck. "Why the f**k did you do that?" Roared the beta. "I needed time to escape. Don't worry, he'll probably just send her back with more 'messages'. Unless, of course, he wants her to stay dead. I wouldn't blame him. It would be the smartest thing he has done in a century." "A century? What the f**k? You can't be more than 25 years old. You delusional freak." That's not nice. "Oh. I didn't mention that I'm immortal? Oops." Chelsea began to moan. Oh s**t. She's waking up again. "Damn it. Give me your goddamn keys Liam."  "What? Why? You can't leave me, besides, I'll protect you." "You can't protect someone from a god. And besides, isn't that what someone says before the person their trying to protect gets murdered?" "Fine." He threw me the keys, "Wait. Did you say god?" "Yes, Christ. Please just try to keep up. My father. The devil." "Damn, that's cool." "Dude, you seriously believe her? She's obviously crazy." Wow, I've never seen someone more eager to die! "And you aren't? You literally just saw a dead girl come back to life." "You have no proof she was ever dead." "Fine, just wait till she wakes up again. Me? I'm not staying around for my family reunion, and if you were smart, you would run too. Selene is the nice one, the worst thing she does is kill people. Damien, he kills their families, then kills them, and tortures them eternally in hell. Especially the ones who were supposedly good. There's nothing Damien hates more than a goody-two-shoes." They looked horrified. Me? I was horrified for a whole other reason. I can't believe I had just called Selene nice. I cringed at the thought, and snapped back to reality when I heard the dead girl moan again.  I needed to go, "Goodbye, Liam. Goodbye, beta-boy, and goodbye soon-to-no-longer-be-dead bitch." I hopped in the car and put in in gear when I heard the slam of another car door. It was Liam. It seemed his protective instincts have finally kicked in. "You can't go without me." I sure as hell can, b***h. "Who died and made you my mother?" I felt a pang in my chest. Sore subject.  He didn't respond. "It seems Liam cares about you, the reason he's coming with you, and my Alpha is going nowhere without someone to protect him." Look everybody, we have a lap dog! Pardon the pun. Joy."Well, why don't we just schedule a road trip. The whole pack can come." Damn, sarcasm is refreshing.  "Good Idea. They can get to know their Luna!" And my sarcasm buzz is officially ruined. d**k move. Hell naw, man. That s**t ain't happening. "Dude, I was just kidding. I have no intention of meeting the pack, not now, and not ever. Thanks though." I was too tired to try and force them to get out, my power reserves were sapped from not enough rest and food. Thanks, malnutrition. "Oh, hell. Well, Liam, it seems you get to meet my family. I don't think they will like you. And Lukey, he's gonna either kill you, or Selene, whichever comes first." "Did she just say kill the Moon Goddess? Christ, you really are delusional." "Oh my god, how can a girl catch a break bet--? What is your name? Saying beta boy all the time is utterly exhausting. So many syllables. Jesus." "Ben. My name is Ben." "Actually, come to think of it, I'll just call you dumbass." Obviously, I was doing a good job of pissing him off, because it seemed the only that kept him from trying to rip me to pieces, is his loyalty to me as the Luna. Sometimes it pays to have a super annoying alpha mate that you will reject when you have a chance to get away. But that's not the point. I typed my address into the GPS, "Okay..." Well, this is gonna be one hell of a ride.
