(Elara's POV)
I had just stepped into the hallway leading to Lucian's office when Kane caught my elbow, his Beta presence radiating unusual anxiety.
"Dr. Elara," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "Elder Thorne is with Alpha Lucian."
I paused, my foot hovering mid-step. The name was unfamiliar to me.
"Elder Thorne?" I repeated, keeping my voice equally low.
Kane glanced nervously at the door ahead. "Alpha Lucian's grandfather. The former Alpha of the Midnight Howlers pack."
My stomach tightened. I hadn't expected to face not one but two Alpha wolves today, especially not a former pack leader. My omega wolf stirred uneasily beneath my skin.
"Is he... waiting for me?" I asked, already suspecting the answer.
