Chapter 83: An Accidental Eavesdropping
(Elara's POV)
I was curled up on my couch, reviewing patient files from the pack hospital when my phone rang. The screen showed "Alpha Lucian" and my omega wolf immediately stirred beneath my skin. After our strange text exchange earlier, I wasn't sure what to expect.
I answered tentatively. "Hello?"
There was no direct response to my greeting. Instead, I heard a familiar gravelly voice that wasn't Lucian's. My breath caught in my throat as I recognized Elder Thorne's distinctive tone – the same voice that had challenged me in Lucian's office just hours ago.
"You can't keep avoiding this, Lucian," Elder Thorne was saying, his voice sharp with impatience. "The pack council is growing restless."
