The unexpected voice on my phone left me stunned. After the strange outburst I'd heard moments ago, I was certain this call would be another Alpha tirade. Instead, Lucian's voice was soft, almost subdued.
"Elara, I apologize for the confusion earlier. That wasn't meant for you." His tone lacked its usual commanding edge. "May I come over?"
I froze, my fingers gripping the phone tightly. This request was so unexpected that for a moment I couldn't formulate a response.
"Come over?" I finally managed.
"Yes. If it's convenient." He sounded tired, nothing like the powerful Alpha who typically made demands rather than requests.
