Chapter 66: An Unexpected Visit
(Elara's POV)
The sound of knocking froze my welcoming smile in place. Kane stood on my mother's doorstep, looking as out of place as a wolf in a chicken coop.
"Kane?" I stammered, unable to hide my shock. "What are you doing here?"
Kane shifted his weight from one foot to the other, his normally composed Beta presence wavering slightly. His dark hair was neatly combed, and his pressed shirt looked incongruous against the rustic backdrop of my mother's pack house.
"Dr. Elara," he began formally, his voice lowered to prevent others from overhearing. "Are you available now? Alpha Lucian wants to talk to you about some pack business."
