Kyla’s POV
Adson & Co. Office – Same Afternoon
She walked out of Brena’s office with her head high, stilettos clacking confidently against the marble floor.
But the second the elevator doors closed behind her, her smile turned crooked.
She opened her phone, tapped the screen, and ended the call.
"Bingo," she whispered.
Ten minutes ago, just as she stepped into Brena’s office, she had sent a casual message to Sevy.
Call me when you're free. I might be in a little trouble lol.
Not even two minutes later, her phone buzzed. Sevy was calling.
And right before she picked up, she didn't hold it to her ear.
She answered the call — then slid her phone into her open handbag, screen up, mic hot.
Everything Brena said?
Rinig na rinig ng nasa kabilang linya.
Sevy.
Kyla remembered the exact moment she nudged Brena just enough.
And then… she saw it.
That shift in Brena’s expression.
That flash of pain she tried to hide.
And the words that followed?
“"Okay, you done? if wala ka ng sasabihin you may go Kyla. As you can see, I'm a busy woman. At wala akong time para patulan ka. You know you can have Severino as long as you want. I don't care. .”
Kyla fought hard not to smirk.
Because she knew.
Sevy heard that.
Every. Damn. Word.
And while Brena thought she was delivering some dramatic mic drop, what she didn’t know was that her heartbreak had just been hand-delivered straight to the boy she swore she was over.
Perfect.
Kyla ended the call only once she was sure the timing was just right—just when Brena looked down and said her last line with a half-hearted shrug.
“You guys can f*ck all you want. Huwag niyo na lang akong idadamay pa.”
Click. Call ended. Message delivered.
And Kyla?
Ngiting tagumpay.
She stepped out of the elevator, pulled out her phone again, and tapped a quick reply to Sevy’s earlier text:
Sorry, just stepped out of a heavy convo. U okay?
Can I see you later?
Her hands were steady, but her heart was racing.
Because this move? This was risky.
Too risky.
But in war and love, weren’t the best plays the most dangerous ones?
She stared at her reflection in the glass wall beside the lobby.
Flawless. Clean lines. Painted lips.
Perfectly put-together.
But inside?
She knew she was running out of time.
If Sevy figured things out—if he started connecting dots she didn’t want him to see—then she’d lose everything.
Still… for now, Brena was the villain.
The one who doesn't want Sev anymore.
The one who let go.
And Sevy? He heard it all.
Kyla clutched her phone tighter.
All she had to do now… was stay close.
Before the truth ever got a chance to speak.
Later that Night – Sevy’s Condo
Kyla sat on Sevy’s couch like she belonged there. Legs crossed, holding a glass of wine, her blazer draped on the armrest like she was home.
He, on the other hand, was pacing.
Silent.
Brooding.
Exactly the state she wanted him in.
“Kumain ka na ba?” she asked gently, pretending to sound concerned. “You haven’t said a word since earlier.”
Sevy didn’t answer right away. His brows were furrowed, jaw clenched, hands inside his pockets.
“I heard her.” His voice was low, almost broken. “I heard Brena… I heard everything she said."
Kyla tilted her head, feigning confusion. “What did she say?”
“As if you don’t know.” He looked at her with eyes filled with quiet betrayal. “She said that you can have me as long as you want That...that we can f**k all we want. Damn it!. It seems that... that… I was never someone she truly wanted.” I'am just her lil bro for f*****g s**t!".
Kyla’s heart leapt, but her expression stayed calm. Controlled.
“I’m so sorry you had to hear that,” bulong niya, setting her wine glass down and standing slowly. She walked over to him and placed a hand on his arm. “But maybe it’s for the best.”
“Best?” ulit niya, barely audible.
“Sevy… you’ve done everything to be there for her. For her to give hint or clue that you love her. Pero ano? nanatili parin siyang clueless. Paulit-ulit ka niyang tinutulak palayo, maybe it’s time you stopped chasing. Stop giving her so much attention. And no one knows, maybe if you stop, she might realize if ano ka talaga sa buhay niya.
Sevy shook his head. “You don’t understand.”
Kyla bit her lip. This was tricky. She couldn’t push too far.
But she leaned in closer.
“Then help me understand,” she said softly. “Because from what I saw, ikaw na nga ‘tong laging nandiyan, pero siya? She keeps acting like you’re a kid na kailangan niyang iguide, sermonan, turuan. Open your eyes Sev.”
She knew that line would sting. She needed it to.
Sevy closed his eyes, pain written all over his face.
Exactly what she wanted.
“You deserve someone who wants you. Someone who sees you as a man, as a grown man. Someone who sees how good your heart is and chooses you. Every damn time.”
Kyla touched his hand.
“Like I do.”
She let it hang there. The confession. The suggestion. The offer.
But Sevy didn’t respond.
He just pulled his hand away and sat on the edge of the couch, running his hands over his face in frustration.
Kyla took a step back.
Too soon.
But that was okay. She could wait. She always did.
She picked up her bag and slowly walked to the door, then paused, voice soft and calculated.
“If you ever get tired of trying to make her love you… You know where to find me.”
Click. Door closed.
And outside, sa hallway ng condo, Kyla finally let out a wicked grin.
Because Sevy might not have been hers yet…
But she had just placed the biggest wedge between him and Brena.
And Brena had no idea what was coming.
