Chapter 1
By the time the clock hit 11:00pm, I was certain that everyone else around the house was already asleep, except for me. It had been a long day of grocery shopping, and other tasks that required too much of our energy, and I was exhausted, but for some reason I couldn't find it in me to go to sleep. Instead, I found myself with a glass of cola by my side, along with some girl scout cookies that we impulsively bought the other day, and watching a random low budget horror movie I found while browsing through the internet. I suddenly sighed, wondering when did my life come to this. Just then, as if someone was giving me an answer, I heard a tapping on my window. Slowly raising my head to look up, I saw my best friend, Scott McCall, waving, his white teeth showing in the most adorable way, as if he didn't notice that I was lowkey panicking because of the sudden sound. I let out a breath that I didn't even realize I was holding and paused the movie, motioning for him to wait up. Him and this other weird guy, Stiles Stilinski, had been my best friends since, well, a very, very long time, kindergarten to be exact. Also, to add up to this cliché story, I've always had this huge crush on Scott, one that probably everybody knew of, except for him. The sad part was that he didn't feel the same way, I mean, as far as I knew, at least, because he had never shown signs of liking me back. He had always treated me like a "bro", and sometimes it was a problem, but I tried to not let that get to me. I was happy with only being his best friend, as weird as it sounded. Of course, that would most certainly change the day he met a girl that he liked. I walked towards the window and quickly opened it. "You know, a normal person would just call before climbing up on someone's window." ''What, did I scare you?'' Scott smirked as I got out of the way, so he could come inside my room. When he jumped in, I looked outside the window and, just as expected, Stiles was standing there next to his jeep. "Are you gonna come up as well, or...?" ''Nah, I'm good here,'' he said back, a little too loudly. "The ground is great." Rolling my eyes at him, I let out a chuckle, and at the same time, my little sister, Karen, who was sleeping on the other side of the room, let out a groan and rolled over, her eyes squinting as she placed a pillow on top of her head. ''I swear I'm gonna have to kill him if he doesn't shut up.'' "Go back to sleep, Karen." I told her as Scott raised an eyebrow. Turning once more, Karen went into a deep slumber, again. ''Long day?" he asked, taking a cookie and biting on it. I quickly grabbed my plate to prevent him from taking any more of my cookies. "Yes, a very long day indeed. I've been trying to get some sleep for a while now, but my system has other pans." "What, eat cookies and-" he took a glance at my computer screen, where the movie was still paused. "-watch a crappy looking movie, where apparently the killer is a-" he looked again, furrowing his eyebrows. "-... man in a bunny suit?" "Yeah," I smiled and batted my eyelashes. "Wanna join?" He shook his head. ''It sounds tempting, but we were just passing by. We're not gonna stay for too long.'' ''Why not? Did you guys make plans without me?" I folded my arms across my chest, feeling betrayed but at the same time not being surprised. He shrugged. "We're just going to the forest, to look for something. No big deal." ''Look for what?" ''That's a secret'' he smirked, knowing damn well that the secrecy would annoy me. ''If you're going to kill someone, just tell me,'' I said. "I may or may not keep the secret." ''Trust me, we're not gonna kill anyone,'' he chuckled. ''But I can't tell you what we're doing because-'' "Oh, wait, let me guess," I cut him off, then cleared my throat before speaking, trying to make my best Scott impression. "It's men stuff and you can't know because you're a girl." He rolled his eyes. "You're so funny. I was gonna say that if I told you, you would probably forbid us to even try and find the-" he stopped speaking mid sentence, too close to spilling everything. I raised my eyebrows, waiting for him to finish. But he didn't. Instead, he just cleared his throat and said, "So, I'll see you tomorrow, then." I rolled my eyes at him. ''Fine, don't tell me what you're doing. I don't even care. It's not like I wanted to go with you, anyways. Leave poor Penny alone watching a movie about a killer bunny. Actually, you know what? I hope you guys get killed by a bunny.'' "Wow, I love you, too, Penny," he said sarcastically. "Hey, look, It's nothing too big, okay? We wouldn't let you miss on something fun or exciting, we're just going to investigate." "Investigate what?" But at that same time, Stiles voice was heard. ''Scott, hurry up, we're leaving!'' He looked out the window. "I'm coming!," and then he turned back to me. ''I better go.'' I nodded suspiciously. ''See you tomorrow... if you're not dead by then.'' "Yeah, okay," He chuckled, kissing my cheek. ''Bye, Penny.'' ''Bye.'' And, with one last smile, he stepped out of the room and climbed down. When I looked out the window, Scott and Stiles were already hopping on the Jeep. They were out of my sight in no time. I sighed, wondering what they were up to. They could be so stupid sometimes and I constantly worried about them because of that. Also, what was so important that they had to go and investigate...?
