''So, Snooki's engaged... and pregnant?'' Karen asked slowly.
I nodded as a reply, not taking my eyes off of the TV screen. ''Yup.''
''Wow, that's just weird. She was always a party animal...'' she said, looking as if she was pondering something. "Imagine her child watching the show when he or she gets older."
''He or she will be proud.'' I said.
''Mhm.''
Then, there was a knock on the door. ''I'll get it, Brenda!'' I said loudly as I stood up from the couch.
''Thanks!'' she shouted back from the kitchen.
Brenda was going to stay with us for a while, again, because mom and dad were on a last minute trip to visit dad's best friend since high school, who currently lived in Colombia. I didn't like the idea of mom going, though. You know, because she's almost 2 months pregnant and all. Oh, and did I mention that she was having a girl? Yesterday, when we got home from school, she told us the news. And already had a name for her. Blue Rose. Surprisingly, Bryson came up with it ("I just saw a blue rose in a video game and I thought it was pretty."), and we all liked it. Mom wanted to give her a unique name and we all gave cute ideas, but Blue Rose was the best out of all of them.
When I opened the door, I found myself facing Scott, who had an arm wrapped around a very drunk-looking Stiles. ''Scott? What are you guys doing here?,'' I said, furrowing my eyebrows. I motioned towards Stiles. "And what's wrong with him?"
''Can we come in, please? He's pretty heavy.'' he said, instead of answering my questions.
I nodded anyway, and moved out of the way so they could enter. ''Sure, come in.''
''Hey, Penny! Long time no see you!,'' Stiles slurred, moving in to give me a hug, but he ended up throwing his whole body on me, almost making me fall. "How are things with that guy, uh... Melvin, is it?"
''It's Calvin... and, uh, things are pretty good. Thanks for asking.'' I said, chuckling when he unglued his face from my shoulder and gave me a goofy smile.
''Scott's jealous, you know.'' he whispered as if he was telling me a secret, but it wasn't too discreet.
Before I could react to it, Scott pulled him away. ''Uh, don't listen to him! You know, he's drunk, he doesn't really know what he's saying.''
I slowly nodded without still really processing what was happening. Brushing it off, I watched as Scott managed to make Stiles sit down on the couch next to Karen, who was already raising an eyebrow at him and giving him a weird look. "Hi. I like your hair." Stiles told her, grabbing a strand of her hair and eyeing it as if he just discovered something new.
"Uh... thanks... get away from me." slapping his hand away, she moved to sit down on the other corner of the couch.
''Can I ask why you brought a drunk Stiles into my house?'' I folded my arms across my chest as I turned to Scott, who was now standing next to me.
''Well, I needed to talk to you, and I couldn't just leave him like that,'' he said, turning me around, so my back was facing him, and grabbing me by the shoulders. He started to guide me to the dining room. "His father would kill him if he saw him like this."
''Right,'' I muttered, sitting on a chair once we got to the table. He did the same. "So, anyways, what's up? What did you wanna talk to me about?"
''Okay," he sighed, fiddling with his fingers and looking down at them. "First of all, I wanted to apologize for how I treated you on Friday. I kept thinking about it, and you're right. I should be happy for you because you deserve to be happy. And if you're happy going out with him, then... I guess I'm happy, too.''
I gave him a small smile. ''Thanks, Scott.''
As long as he doesn't mention what I said about him and Allison, then It's fine.
"But if he ever hurts you, then I will kill him. I'm just saying." he said, shrugging as if it was nothing.
I chuckled. "Alright, then."
He smiled, but that smile soon turned into a frown in just a matter of seconds. ''And, uh... do you remember Thursday night, when we were trapped in school?''
"Oh, how can I forget?"
''Well," he let out a deep breath, before he kept talking. "After we got out, Allison came to talk to me and... she broke up with me."
My eyes widened when he finished because I was definitely not expecting that. ''What? She broke up with you?''
He nodded. ''She said she didn't trust me anymore after what happened. She knew I was lying that night, but I just couldn't tell her that I was a werewolf, and I couldn't tell her that Derek was also a werewolf, and I certainly couldn't tell her that there was an Alpha trying to get me to join its pack. So, when I finally told Stiles earlier, he said that we should get drunk, just to forget about everything for a moment. And, well, that didn't turn out so good, as you can already see.''
''Wow.'' was all I could say.
I had to admit that part of me was glad that Scott and Allison had broken up, which kind of made me feel like a shitty person. But, it also pained me to see Scott so heartbroken. He's never looked so head over heels for a girl, and Allison was his first girlfriend, after all. His first love. And I was being selfish for wanting to keep him for myself. He was never even mine to start with. ''I thought I loved her, Penny.'' he finally said, after what felt like an eternity of silence.
Despite the lump that formed in my throat as he said those words, I took a hold of his hand. "I know."
''I should let her go,'' he said. "I really should. Her family's name is not convenient, either, but... I don't want to let her go. If I hadn't gotten bitten in the first place, her and I would still be together."
I nodded, not really bringing myself to say anything else.
"Have you... have you ever had this empty feeling in your chest that It's like they grabbed your heart and crushed into a million tiny pieces? And you don't feel like doing anything because you just feel so useless?" he asked, looking into my eyes.
Lots of times, yeah.
Nodding once more, I sighed and caressed his hand with my thumb as he squeezed it gently. I should do something for him...
So, I stood up from my chair. ''Come on. Let's go.''
''Where?'' he asked, but he stood up as well while giving me a confused look.
''We're gonna go buy candy.'' I answered him.
''Why candy?'' he looked even more confused.
''Well, candy makes you feel better," I shrugged. "It's better than getting drunk, at least.''
He let out a small chuckle. ''Yeah, I guess you're right. But, what about Calvin?''
''What about him?''
''I mean, you guys are kind of dating now, I wouldn't want it to be weird for you..." he scratched the back of his neck.
I laughed. ''It's not weird at all, you and I have gone out lots of times.''
''And what about Stiles?''
''Oh, he seems to be very entertained with Karen,'' I said. "I don't think he'll be a problem"
''Oh... well, okay, let's go.''
Walking through the living room and towards the front door, I grabbed my phone on the way. ''Karen, Scott and I are going out. Please, take care of Stiles while for a little bit.'' I called to her, already twisting the door knob.
"But-"
And I closed the door behind us before she could finish whatever she was going to say. I knew that she would probably kill me afterwards for leaving her alone with drunk Stiles. "Are you sure she'll be okay handling Stiles?" Scott asked.
"Of course!" I smiled in assurance, taking out my car keys.
***
"Oh my God,'' he said with his mouth full. "This candy bar tastes like heaven, and I'm not exaggerating."
I chuckled. ''I told you! And wait 'till you taste the truffles and the cake pops. I'll be back in a second.''
The employee on the counter handed me the rest of my purchase. ''Thanks,'' I told him, walking back to the table, where Scott was still eating his candy bar. Placing the bag in front of him, I opened it and took out a truffle. "Try this."
''Is it good?'' he asked curiously.
''You'll love it.'' I grinned.
''If you say so,'' he said, taking a bite of it. As he kept on chewing, his eyes widened. "Whoa."
"Right?"
"This is so good, holy s**t," he said, eating the rest of the truffle. "Why have I never been here before?"
I shrugged. "I guess you just didn't need it as much as you do now."
After we stuffed our faces with chocolate, gummies, and everything else I had bought, we ordered some malted milkshakes. Scott ordered vanilla while I ordered chocolate, and we both drank the whole thing as if we weren't even full from the previous candy. And he seemed to feel a lot better by the time we had left the shop.
"God, I'm so full." he whined, the two of us making our way towards my doorway, but taking our time.
"I know," I said, rubbing my abdomen and belly. "I feel like a balloon."
He nodded in agreement. "I guess we got a little bit too carried away eating all of that candy."
I let out a small laugh. "You think?"
"But I really needed that," he said, sighing. ''Seriously, thanks, Penny. I really do feel a lot better, now. You were right, candy was essential for this.''
I chuckled. ''It was nothing, really. I just didn't want to see you like that anymore. That's what friends are for, right?''
He nodded, smiling. ''Yeah.''
I opened my arms, motioning for a hug. His smile grew bigger and he gladly wrapped his arms around my waist while I wrapped mine around his neck. And we stayed like that for a few seconds, but it felt so much longer than that. When we pulled away, I noticed how close our faces actually were. Only a few inches between us. Butterflies quickly filled my stomach and my heart started beating faster than before, even though it wasn't the right time to feel that way. I had never been that close to Scott, so close to how a kiss with him would feel. But obviously a kiss was not going to happen, because he has never made any attempt to kiss me before and he was still hurting for Allison. Still, neither of us moved for a moment. We were just standing there, staring at each other. This big urge to kiss him suddenly ran through me, but I stopped myself before I could do anything stupid. It wouldn't have been fair to Calvin, either...
I cleared my throat. ''Um... would you-would you like to come inside for a drink?''
He blinked a few times and nodded. ''Yeah... yeah, sure.''
Giving him an awkward smile, I opened the door and we both entered the house.
''Yes, Stiles, Lydia loves you very much.'' I heard Karen's voice full of annoyance as soon was we entered.
''That's not true!'' Stiles said, sounding like he was about to cry.
''Then why the hell are you asking me if you already know the answer to that?''
When we entered the living room we saw Karen and Stiles still sitting on the couch, almost exactly as we left then. Only this time, Stiles was caressing Karen's red hair with his head on her shoulder, and she was looking as if she was going to kill him at any moment. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw us standing a few feet away from them, and then stood up. ''Oh, thank God you guys are here. I can't take this anymore. Do not let Stiles get drunk anymore.'' she said, not even bothering to greet us as she started trotting up the stairs.
Chuckling and shaking my head at the same time, I walked towards the couch. "Hey, Stiles."
''Does Lydia love me?'' he asked quickly, pouting.
Rolling my eyes, I sat down next to him. I was about to say something, but when I turned to look back at him he had fallen asleep in a millisecond. As I let out a small laugh, Scott sat down as well. ''Idiot.'' he muttered.
''Karen's right, you know. We can never let him get drunk, again.'' I said, patting Stiles' head.
He nodded. ''He said a lot of crazy things.''
I chuckled again, imagining all the things that he could've said. ''You know, he said something really interesting, though,'' Scott said. Then, he sighed, leaning his head back and resting both of his hands behind it. "But... no, it can't be true,"
''Oh really? What did he say?'' I asked curiously. Knowing Stiles, he could've spilled anything that came to his mind.
He turned his head to look at me before giving me an answer. ''He said that you loved me. You know... as more than a friend.''
No. My heart felt like it was about to burst out of my chest at any moment, and my eyes widened quickly because I couldn't even manage to keep calm. He couldn't have... Oh my God.
''H-He said that?'' Was all I could say, trying to sound as chill as possible.
''Yeah.'' Scott said, nodding a bit. It felt as if he was waiting for me to confirm if what Stiles had said was true or false.
''Well, that's just crazy!'' I exclaimed.
''I know,'' he said, chuckled. "That's what I said, too."
I laughed, but it was a nervous laugh for me. I placed a strand of hair behind my ear and then I started playing with my thumbs because I didn't know what else to do. And then suddenly, there was an awkward silence between us, and I could feel the tension building up quickly. My throat went dry and the only words that ran through my mind were, I'm going to kill Stiles...
