Chapter 18

1693 Words
Once I entered school alongside Lydia, Karen, and Bryson, an uncomfortable feeling ran through me. I looked around and watched as students walked around, talked in groups and did their usual activities without looking at all bothered. ''And to think we were almost killed here yesterday.'' I muttered to Lydia, who just shook her head. ''What?" Karen asked, her and Bryson staring at me. Lydia and I looked at each other, trying to play it cool. "Oh, it wasn't literal. Lydia and I took physical ed yesterday and they made us play basketball for the whole hour, and it was so exhausting. That's why I said that we almost got killed." "Right." Lydia agreed, smiling at them. "Oh," Karen said, then nodded. "Understandable. Anyways, I'll see you guys later." "Bye." we said as she left to look for her friends. Bryson stood in front of Lydia and I. "You know, Lydia, if you ever feel like playing basketball with me, I'm always-" "No." "Okay." Bryson left before he could keep making a fool out of himself. When they were both out of sight, Lydia and I sighed in relief and proceeded walking to our lockers. "Is it even safe to be here after a janitor was killed?" Lydia questioned as she opened her lockers and grabbed one of her books. "Is it even safe to live here anymore?" was my way of replying as I copied her actions. "You know, I was having a normal night yesterday," she said, leaning her shoulder against the locker and hugging the book to her chest. "It was all great until Jackson decides that It's a great idea to give Allison a ride to the school. And to top it all off, he was acting like an asshole the whole time, with me, because with her he was suddenly the sweetest guy. It was like as if she was his girlfriend and I was that Stiles friend of yours." Behind her look of annoyance, I could see signs of anger and even worry. I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at her. "You're not, by any chance, implying that there's... something going on between them, right?" She was looking at the floor as she shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe he's attracted to her because he stopped being attracted to me." "Lydia," I placed a hand on her shoulder. "Why don't you talk to him about it and clear things out?" She finally looked up at me. "You know how Jackson is, he'll probably just turn things around to make me seem like the villain in the relationship. It's not even worth it anymore." I opened my mouth wanting to encourage her further -not because I liked Jackson, but because I knew how much he meant to her-, but I closed it, again. I wasn't too good at giving advice, and I didn't want to say the wrong thing. "But, It's whatever," she sighed, straightening up. "I'll see you later, Penny." "'Kay, bye." I said quietly as she left, closing my locker. Lydia was not good at expressing her feelings, so I understood that she didn't want to talk about it, I was used to it. But sometimes I wished that she would talk to me and tell me what was bothering her, because I might've not been the best adviser, but I was a good listener and I would always be there for her. ''Hey, beautiful.'' a voice said in my ear and I jumped as it snapped me out of my thoughts.. When I turned around and saw who it was I let out a sigh. ''Calvin, you scared me.'' ''Sorry,'' he said with a grin. "I honestly didn't mean to." "Of course you didn't." I playfully rolled my eyes at him. He chuckled softly. "So... how are you?" "I'm okay, thank you for asking," I answered. He didn't have to know about last night's experience. "What about you, what have you been up to?" "Oh, just the typical," he replied with a small shrug. "Playing basketball, working out, and what not." I nodded as my mouth turned into the shape of an 'O'. "Nice." "Yeah," he said, the two of us unconsciously starting to walk together towards... somewhere. "Although, lately I've been pretty into football all of a sudden. But my mates only like lacrosse, especially Jackson, he thinks football's a joke here in Beacon Hills." "Oh, screw him. He's a jerk," I said while rolling my eyes. "Nobody cares about his opinion." "Wow," he said with a chuckle. "You seem to love him a lot." "Oh yeah, he's my favorite person in the entire world," I said, obviously in a sarcastic tone. "I would choose him over Johnny Depp any day." Calvin laughed. "What, did he do something to you that made you hate him?" I shook my head while shrugging. "Not really. It was more like a 'hate at first sight' thing, you know? It's just that... he's so arrogant and cocky that I want to punch him in the face everytime I see him. You know, the first time we actually spoke -or he spoke, actually- was in the eight grade, because I was playing volleyball with some friends and I accidentally hit him with the ball, so he shouted 'Watch the face, you i***t!'. And then, after that, he just started to give me nasty looks everytime we passed each other by at the halls, and then I started to return them, until we just hated each other's guts. And now he's dating my best friend. The end." "What an amazing story." Calvin laughed again. I laughed with him. "Yeah. When he and Lydia started dating, of course, I didn't approve, and I still don't, but I can tell that she likes him a lot, even if they fight constantly." We kept the conversation going, changing topics every once in a while, until we ended up in front of the vending machines. There, Calvin stood in front of me, looking at me in the eye. "Hey, uh, I don't wanna push it or anything, but... have you-have you thought about... You know....?" I didn't have an answer prepared for him before he had asked me, but as I stared into his eyes, I realized that this was something that was not going to happen to me all the time. And then Scott came to my mind. I couldn't wait for him to ask me out my whole life, I had to move on at some point. And I had been waiting so long for him that it was starting to feel like I was wasting my time. Was that what my life consisted of? Waiting for Scott to come around and confess to me as the result of a miracle? I took a deep breath before a single word came out of my mouth. ''Yes.'' "Okay, so, um, do you have an answer?" he asked, almost sounding nervous. I grinned. "It's a yes." His eyes widened at my answer. ''Wait, did you just say yes?'' I chuckled and nodded. ''I did.'' "Holy s**t," he muttered in awe. Soon I knew it, his arms were wrapped around me in a tight hug. ''That's amazing.'' "Calvin, you're squishing me!" I told him as I laughed out loud, not even caring if people were looking. He let me go, a grin plastered on his face. Then, he started to look rummage through his pockets, until finally he took out a dollar. He entered the dollar in the vending machine and, soon enough, he took out a bag of peanut M&M's. "For you, m'lady." he said as he offered it to me. "Oh my God," I laughed, taking the bag. "Thank you, this is so sweet." He placed his hands behind his back, watching as I opened the bag. ''I like you a lot, Penny." Moving my attention back to him, I was suddenly at a loss for words. I was sure that my face was crimson red by now, because I could feel it burning. My heart was beating faster than ever and my stomach felt like it was twisted into a knot. He walked closer to me, slowly raising a hand to caress my cheek. "I really do like you." And, as he leaned closer and closer, I didn't make any effort to stop him. *** ''Hi, guys!'' I said brightly, sitting down in front of Scott and Stiles. ''Hey.'' Stiles greeted. Scott just stayed quiet. ''Isn't it a lovely day?'' I asked, with a grin that couldn't be contained. ''Whoa, why do you sound like a Disney princess? Yesterday was all dark, and now today you're all smiley and... It's creepy'' Stiles said. I shrugged. ''Nothing wrong with being in a good mood." I was taking one of Stiles' fries when Scott finally spoke. ''Is it because Calvin kissed you?'' ''What?'' Stiles' eyes widened. "I've seen you do that with Allison, lots of times. So what if Calvin was kissing me? We're going out, again, after all." ''What?'' Stiles said, but I didn't answer. I was too busy glaring at Scott. ''You said yes to that i***t?'' Scott said. ''Yeah, I did.'' ''Why?'' ''Because I wanted to. Got a problem with that?'' I asked hi. ''Yes, there is," Scott stood up from his chair, catching Stiles and I off guard. "He's not the guy for you. He just plays this game, so he can get any girl that he wants. I tried to accept it, because I thought It'd be over soon, and I told you to be careful with him, but look at you now.'' ''You're just exaggerating, Scott!'' I said, standing up as well. ''I'm not! Everything I'm saying is true and you'll eventually find out in the worst way!'' "Guys," Stiles tried to interfere. "Let's just... let's calm down-" ''Why can't you just be happy for me?'' I asked. ''BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING OUT WITH HIM!'' ''SO?! YOU'RE WITH ALLISON AND I PRETEND TO BE HAPPY FOR YOU! YOU COULD DO THE SAME THING FOR ME!'' and with those last words I walked away, not even bothering to look back.
