ONE late afternoon, Emon was reading a book on pirates in his room. then he heard a knock on the door. He put down the book and opened the door.
It was Jai and Kansan. They came into the room and Kansan picked up from the bed the book Emon was reading and began turning its pages.
“Let me see – let me see, what book it is,” Jai said and snatched away the book from Kansan.
Jai looked at the cover of the book and asked: “Pirates are dacoits of the sea, aren’t they?”
“Hoo,” Kansan said.
“Have you seen the sea?”
“No.”
“And you, Emon?” Jai asked.
“No,” Emon said.
“Do you know how far it is from here?”
“It’s near Bengal,” Kansan said.
“How did you know?”
