-Cassandra POV-
Outside, the night air was crisp, the kind that kisses your cheeks and leaves them tingling. The sky was a canvas of deep blue, speckled with stars.
William and I sat in front of the fireplace, the flames casting a dance of light and shadow across our faces. I was nestled in between his legs, comfortably leaning into his chest. This was the best part of my day.
I had been busy setting up the hospital here at the Blood Moon Pack. The previous Alpha didn't care much for his pack members. Power was all he cared about.
William is not his father. Izzy retorqued.
I didn't say or think anything of the sort! Chill, will you? She was very protective of our mate. So was I.
"What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?" William brought me back from my thoughts.
I leaned back, my gaze lost in the flames. "Do you remember the first time we met?" I asked, my voice soft, almost lost in the night.
William chuckled. "How could I forget? You were like a force of nature, sweeping into that hospital room." He chuckled. "I was half out of my mind with pain, but there you were, my perfect mate, calm and commanding."
I smiled, a gentle, wistful curve of my lips. "You were quite the sight, Alpha William. So strong, yet so vulnerable." I paused, turning slightly to meet his gaze. "I never expected my life to take such a turn that day."
William reached for my hand, his fingers intertwining with mine. "Neither did I. In such a short time, I went from being the pack's Casanova to replacing a tyrant Alpha to lying broken in a bed, staring into the eyes of my destined mate." His thumb gently caressed the back of my hand.
"You know," I began, a playful twinkle in my eye, "for a moment there, I thought you were going to be one of those stubborn Alphas, too proud to accept help."
William laughed, a rich, warm sound that blended with the night. "I thought about it!" He leaned closer, his gaze intense. "You saved me, my angel. Not just my body but my soul. I'm glad I listened to you."
He gently caressed my arms with his hand. "I never believed in destiny, my angel. But now, looking at you, feeling this… I can't deny it. We are meant to be together."
I leaned into his touch, closing my eyes. "There's nothing we can't face together, my warrior."
He nodded, a sense of resolve settling over his features. "Together," he echoed, a promise in his voice. I watched him, my eyes filled with concern and admiration.
William met my gaze, a hint of vulnerability in his eyes. "I feel the weight of it, my angel. The responsibility, the expectations. It feels like I'm walking on a path I never chose, but now, I can't turn back."
I leaned forward, my hands clasped in front of me. "But it's a path you were born for, my warrior. You have the strength, the courage. You can be the Alpha this pack needs, the leader they deserve."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I was the pack's Casanova, remember? How can they take me seriously now?"
My voice was gentle but firm. "People change, my warrior. They grow. You have grown. Trust that they see the man you've become, not the boy you were."
William shifted, facing me more directly. "I was lost, my angel. Lost in my father's expectations, in the reputation I'd built. Then…”
My heart swelled at his words. I remembered the days of his recovery and the challenges we faced. "It wasn't easy, was it?"
We sat in silence for an instant.
Raven is worried. Izzy told me. Victor's ghost lingers in the pack.
"You're not your father, my warrior," I said softly, breaking the silence.
Turning to face him, I took his face in my hands.
"Because of you," he whispered.
"Not because of me." I looked at him intently. "You started making changes long before we met."
"Sometimes, I have nightmares of that night. The war, the duel with my father, and his demise." William shuttered.
I wished I could do more for him. Those memories will probably haunt him for a long time.
There was a pause, the crackling of the fire filling the room. William looked into the flames, lost in thought. "I never imagined I'd find my mate, let alone in such... extraordinary circumstances."
I nodded, understanding the turmoil that churned within him. "It's a surprising journey for both of us. But know this, my warrior, I'm with you every step of the way."
He turned to me, his expression softening. "I know. And I'm grateful for you, for your patience, your wisdom. You've been my anchor through all of this."
A tender smile played on my lips. "And you've been my unexpected blessing."
William leaned forward, his forward now on mine. He let out a long breath. "I just hope I'm enough for you, the pack, myself…" he trailed off. "Maybe enough for one day to have pups of our own."
"You are enough, my warrior. More than enough. Don't be too hard on yourself."
He squeezed my hand, a silent thank you in the gesture. "What about you, my angel? How are you coping with all of this? With me? With your role as Luna?"
I chuckled softly. "It's been a journey for me too. I've always been the healer. But being your Luna, it's a different role, a new challenge. And I'm embracing it, embracing us."
William's eyes held a depth of emotion as he looked at me. "I'm still figuring out how to be the Alpha you see in me. But with you by my side, I can do anything."
My heart swelled with affection. "You can, my warrior. You will. We'll do it together."
The fire crackled, creating a warm and comforting presence in the room. We sat silently for a moment, each lost in our thoughts, yet together in our journey.
Finally, William broke the silence. "I want to be the man you believe I can be, my angel. For you, for the pack. I want to shed my old self and confidently step into this new role."
My eyes shone with pride. "You're doing it, William. Every day, in every decision, every action. You're becoming the Alpha you're meant to be."
He leaned back, pulling me towards him with a determined look. "Then I'll keep going, keep growing. For us, for the pack."
We lay there, me on top of him, the fire's warmth enveloping us, symbolizing our growing bond and shared resolve.
"You know what I remember from our meeting?" he asked me with a husky voice, rubbing my back tenderly. "I remember the following 12 hours of healing, having to resist you just beside you in my bed."
Raven roared softly.
"I wanted to ravish you." He placed a strand of my hair behind my ear. "I wanted you so much."
I blushed.
You wanted him so badly. It had been too long since we had been with a man.
The fire crackled as if it were part of our conversation.
I looked up to see lust in his eyes and a crooked smile.
"Why, Alpha, what naughty thoughts are you thinking of?"
