A Solstice Luna Ceremony: Chapter 3

1524 Words
-Cassandra POV- The morning sun filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room as I slowly woke up. Beside me, William lay, his arms wrapped around me in a protective embrace. "Do you have to go?" His voice was a soft murmur. "I promised Lila and Gabriel that I would attend the interviews this afternoon," I reminded him gently, though part of me yearned to stay enveloped in his warmth. After a moment, he released me, his eyes lingering on mine. I rose from the bed to take a quick shower. At breakfast, William seemed distant. "What's bothering you?" I asked. "I should go with you…" he trailed off. "But there's a lot of work to do with the new buildings and everything else. I understand, my warrior. I won't be gone long, and I won't be that far away." I told him reassuringly. "I know…" he took my hand and kissed it tenderly. "Promise to be safe." I laughed. "Yes, Dad!" That made him chuckle because I'm more than twice his age. Taking one of the jeeps, I embarked on my journey to the Moondance Pack. The forest was dense on the road to the nearest highway. The forest seemed to hold secrets in every shadow. As I drove, my mind raced with the tasks ahead – the interviews, the planning for the Luna Ceremony, and the unshakeable feeling that my life was taking a path I'd never expected. A sudden movement caught my eye as I navigated the winding forest road. Did you see that? I asked Izzy. I'm not sure what I saw, but I have a weird feeling in my stomach that someone or something is tracking us. Izzy replied. Stay alert. Before I could react, a group of rogues emerged from the trees, their intentions clear in their aggressive stance. My heart raced, adrenaline surging through me as I reached for the phone, my fingers trembling. William! I gasped over our mind link, the gravity of the situation making my voice quiver. I need you. I hope he can hear me. I told Izzy. His response was immediate, a growl of concern and fury. Hold on, my angel. I'm on my way. Our mind link went dead, and I braced for what would come. The rogues were upon the jeep in seconds, their snarls and growls filling the air. Should I wait as long as I can here, or do I fight? There's only three of them – but they're huge! Izzy replied. I'll take my chance against them instead of being stuck in here. I fought back with everything I had. My Alpha instincts and Luna training provided me with invaluable combat skills. Each movement was fueled by a desperate need to survive, to return to William. The sounds of a fierce battle filled the forest, a chaotic symphony of growls, snarls, and the clash of bodies. As my energy began to fade, the distinct sound of reinforcements suddenly cut through the chaos of battle. -William POV- When Cassandra left, I decided to patrol the border closest to where she would cross. It was unusual for me, but something was nagging at me. I couldn't shake off a feeling of apprehension, an intuition that something was amiss. Then, she mind-linked me. She needed me. I mind-linked with the closest patrollers, two of our fiercest warriors. I requested their help as I ran in my wolf form as quickly as possible. As I raced through the dense forest, the urgency clawing at my insides was unbearable. My angel was in danger. I could feel her fear, a sharp, stabbing sensation that seemed to pierce my very soul. My warriors, Rolf and Brett, were on my tail, their presence a silent reassurance. Every instinct I possessed as an Alpha was heightened, the bond between Cassandra and me amplifying my need to reach her. The wind whipped past us, carrying the faint sounds of a struggle ahead. My heart pounded against my ribcage, a relentless drum urging me forward. We're close! I yelled over our mind link, hearing the matching urgency in the footfalls of my companions. As we neared the clearing, the scent of blood hit me, a metallic tang that sent a fresh wave of adrenaline coursing through my veins. Bursting into the clearing, the scene that met my eyes ignited a fury like never before. Cassandra, my mate, my Luna, had shifted into her magnificent wolf Izzy. Three rogues surrounded her. Despite the odds, she fought fiercely, her movements graceful yet deadly. But even as my heart swelled with pride at her strength, my blood boiled at the sight of her in danger. Without hesitation, Rolf, Brett, and I leaped into the fray. My claws extended, ready to tear apart anyone who dared to harm her. The battle was chaotic, a whirlwind of snarls, growls, and the clash of bodies. I fought with a single-minded purpose – to reach Cassandra, to shield her with my own body if necessary. Cassandra! I roared over our mind link, my voice a rage and desperation. Izzy turned towards me, her eyes wide with relief and fear. Our gazes locked for a split second. I was here, and I would lay down my life to protect her. The rogues were relentless, but they were no match for the fury of an Alpha protecting his mate. Rolf and Brett were a force to be reckoned with. Their loyalty and strength were crucial in turning the tide of the battle. One by one, the rogues fell. Finally, I reached Izzy. She was breathing heavily. We both shifted back to our human forms. I pulled Cassandra into my arms, crushing her to my chest. "Are you hurt?" My voice was rough with concern, my eyes scanning her for injuries. "I'm OK, William," she whispered, her voice trembling. The relief in her eyes was palpable, but there was a shadow of something else – the realization of the danger we were in. The relief that washed over me was palpable as Cassandra's arms encircled me. "I was so scared I didn't know what was happening or if I would make it to you in time," I admitted, the fear I'd felt now giving way to relief. "You did," she said, her hand reaching up to touch my face. Rolf and Brett stood guard in their wolf forms, their eyes scanning the perimeter for any more threats. The forest was silent now. "We need to get you back to the pack," I said, my protective instinct still raging. "We need to make sure you're safe." "William," she started. "No," Raven surfaced and roared. "No, my angel, don't tell me you're considering going to Moondance Pack." I pleaded with her. "My warrior," she stroked my cheek. I leaned into her touch. You won't win this battle. I told Raven. He was pacing in my mind. "My love," I looked at her. "Take the warriors with you. We were lucky that the rogues were so careless to attack you this close to our border…" "OK, my warrior." We kissed. A kiss that spoke of the fear of almost losing each other just moments ago. "Do you have spare clothes?" I asked, and we both chuckled. "There should be some in the jeep." She said as we got up and headed to the jeep. As we returned to the jeep, the reality of what happened began to sink in. This attack was no random incident. -Cassandra POV- The attack shook me up. But I wanted to keep my word to my niece and Gabriel. I looked up at William, my heart heavy with the thought of leaving him behind, especially now. "You're worried? About the rogue situation?" "Yes," he admitted, his jaw clenching slightly. "It went undetected. I need to ensure our pack's safety. But I can't bear the thought of you out there, not after what just happened." I understood his concern, the protective instinct that drove him. It was the same feeling that surged within me, a desire to shield him from any harm. "I'll take Rolf and Brett with me," I conceded. "They're skilled warriors, and we both trust them." William nodded, though the worry didn't entirely leave his eyes. "I wish I could go with you," he said, brushing a strand of hair from my face. "I know," I whispered, reaching up to touch his cheek. "But right now, you're needed here, and I'll be fine with Rolf and Brett. We'll be back before you know it." "I'll miss you," William said softly, breaking the silence. His eyes held mine, conveying a deep emotion that words could never fully express. "And I'll miss you," I replied, my voice tinged with a sadness that mirrored his. "But we'll be connected, always. Our bond is stronger than any distance." William pulled me closer, his lips meeting mine in a tender yet profound kiss. It was a promise, a vow that transcended the physical realm. In that kiss, I felt his love, commitment, and unspoken pledge to stand by me no matter what the future holds.
