It took her past craggy outcroppings. Some of them scraped against her skin. Her eyes bulged and led her on. She tried to smell what was before her, tried to taste it as she glided past, but the sea was giving her nothing and her eyes were taking in darkness as if it was a syrupy molasses. It invaded her head and slogged down her fish brain. The darkness creeped into her bloodstream and coursed through her heart. It washed over her consciousness. There was no luminescence in this trail through the cavern. Eventually the current reached its peak and pushed her through a hole in the side of the cave and out into the great wide ocean.
