OLD MAN!!

" Thanks again for coming, I really appreciate it" Lian smiled as they strolled together towards Lucas's car,

" How many times, do I have to tell you not to thank me, I came here because I wanted to" Lucas made clear, returning with a warm smile " I want you to take good care of yourself and your mum I'll see you again on Monday?" he inquired wanting to know exactly when Lian was coming back

" Sure I'll be seeing you on Monday" Lian gave him a small bag before watching Lucas drive off in his car.

Nick on the other hand was heading down, he was about to go see his Mum for the past five years.

He had never been home nor set his eyes on her

" You're leaving?"

" Yes, I called my mum and she sounded all excited to have me coming back home"

" Well that's new" Lian said

" Yeah it makes me wonder why but anyways my stay here would not make me find out about it, I would have to go home to see what's going on for myself" he spoke before bidding Lian goodbye and driving off to his home.

Nick drove through the same route he had always followed back home and nothing had seemed to change, he pulled up at the gate before blowing his car honk, a man in his mid-30s came out to open the gate up for him, Nick's family wasn't anything like Lian's family his parents were wealth and they own one of the biggest hospitals in the country.

He was the last son out of five boys all his brothers were doctors, he was the only one that decided to study something different from the family career, his decision made his father angry.

His dad was also the doctor and the founder of the hospital, most times Nick didn't like to talk about his family success and wealth because he felt it was too much for him to take him as a child.

Nick has always been his own man making his own decisions right from the day that he was born, he was also stubborn.

" Good evening Sam" he greeted the man who came to open the gate

" Good evening young master" he answered

" Where is mum?" He asked wanting to know the situation at home.

" She's inside, I think in the kitchen" Sam said

" And dad?"

" He went out for a meeting, in morning the hospital"

" The hospital" Nick chuckled realizing the reason his mum was excited to have him over because his dad was not going to be around for it.

" Thank you" he said before walking in

" Mom!! I'm home!" he called out as he walked towards the kitchen

" Mum!!"

" There is my little lawyer making us proud" she said as she came out happily giving him a hug. Nick's mother had always been different from everyone in his family.

She loved her son despite his choice of career " Look at you, you look so fat and grown now" she said pinching his cheeks

" Mum would you stop pinching my cheeks, I'm no longer a child" he pointed out

" I can't help it, I haven't seen my baby for the past five years. How do you expect me to feel?"

" That's because you didn't want to" Nick spoke rolling his eyes

" You know how your father gets every time we bring you up, why don't you just talk to him. You two could mend your broken relationship and stop being stubborn" she advised

" It's really not good that both of you are being hard headed and ignoring each other" she added sharing her heart

" Mum, listen to me carefully, I love you but I can never ever try to fix anything and I don't even want to fix it anymore" he said proving stubborn

" Alright let's forget about that, how about we eat first you look hungry" she suggested taking him along to the dinner table

" Mom you just read what was in my mind, I had a 4 hours drive from the city down here" he said before his eyes met the food on the table " mum this is way too much just for one person"

" Don't say that, it's all of your favourite dishes, I had to make them because you have so many favourite dishes and I haven't seen you for 5 years, you don't expect me to just make one dish for you"

" But mum..."

" Hold that thought, the the chicken is still in the oven, I'll go get it" she rushed into the kitchen.

Nick had a seat staring at the food on the table with a smile slowly creeping on his face, he really did miss his mum but home not as much

" well look what the cat brought in" spoke a very slightly deep voice behind Nick, he clearly could tell whose voice it was

" Charles you haven't changed a bit still living with our parents" Nick said before turning to look at his elder brother

" You little piece of s**t" he cussed

" What did you think, I would come home crawling and begging for money?" Nick asked raising his eyebrows still staring at his brother, just like his relationship with his father was sour. it was the same with his brothers except his elderest brother Jonathan, he was the only one that understand Nick's nature more than anyone in the family and he has been the one supporting and paying his bills through law School.

" It's still going to happen, it wouldn't take long" he spoke

" Aren't you even ashamed of yourself, even if it is just for a bit. I can't believe you still live with your parents at the age of 36 and you also work for your family at their hospital, Do you think you are self made just because of that?" Nick asked not given a single sign of respect to his brother

" You have no idea what self worth and dignity is, you of all people have no right to look down on me. I didn't come here to see you I came here to see my mum and I would care less whatever happens to you here" he concluded turning to his food

" Is that so" thundered another voice

" Great, just what I needed" Nick whispered to himself before turning to his father's direction

" Old man!" he addressed with a smile

" What are you doing in my house?' his father's voice thundered out once more. Nick could tell there was a stupid smile on his brother's face although he couldn't see it he could feel it

" I came to visit my mother, why is that a problem?"

" I thought I made it clear that I do not want to see you here ever again?"

" OH yeah I think I remember you saying something like that five years ago but grow up old man we haven't seen each other for more than 5 years now which is a very long time and you're still holding a grudges like a child" he said in a playful tube

" Would you talk to him with respect, he's your father" Charles interrupte

" oh I'm sorry, Dad's favourite lab dog, did I step on your toes?" he asked ready to devour his elder brother one more time.

" Stop it both of you" Nick's mum said as she brought in the chicken placing it on the table, she had been hearing voices in the kitchen and could tell her husband was back.

" I called him here, I haven't seen my baby for five years and now he's finally had time to come visit could you three put your differences aside and have a dinner for once in your life together" she added

" You invited him here against my orders" his father roared at his mother which instantly brought fear and realisation that her husband was in the room

" And why are you yelling at her? I'm the one who entered your house so could you not bring her into this and yell at me instead" Nick said with a very pissed face, this was the major reason why he decided to become an attorney. For the longest time as long as he could remember Nick's father often had a habit of hitting his mother and making her feel inferior but it was all going to end. It wasn't going to happen again all thanks to his career.

" Get out of my house this instant" his father spoke

" No as long as my mum is here and she cooked me a very delicious meal, I will not leave until I eat every bite of the food do you understand" Nick said with no fear

" I do not fear you anymore and you are free to do the worst that you can but just have this in mind that whatever you're doing does not affect me one bit, but you are the one who's more concerned about your dumb and stupid reputation. What will the press say if they found out that you disowned your own son, your youngest just because he didn't want to be a doctor like you clowns" he said without any form of fear as spoke to his father

" Nick that's enough just leave and stop threatening us"

" Charles could you just go kiss somebody's ass for another second grown-ups are talking, I can't believe we are from the same mother. As I was saying before your mannerless dog interrupted, I think you need to train him more but anyways I came here to spend time with my mother and I will do just that and nobody is going to stop me.

If any of you have a problem with it you both can go jump into the bridge. I don't bloody care" he concluded pulling out his chair before sitting on it

" Mum this looks delicious" he said before he started putting the food in his mouth not minding the fact that his father was boiling at his presence and still standing there.

He had no choice but to leave Nick and his mum to enjoy their dinner just like Nick stated his reputation was all that he cared about

" You shouldn't have said those things to your father, it hurt him his mother said watching him eat"

" Sometimes you have to be mean mum, aren't you tired of staying here?" He asked bring his attention to her

" Now that I have a good job, I can take good care of you and besides Lian has been missing your cooking for so long" he suggested

" That sounds amazing Nicholas but I can't just leave your father and your brothers behind"

" Come on mum, you left be behind, what's the difference and you're not even respected nor valued here, what's the need of staying?" he asked feeling hurt that she was choosing them over him.

" They are still my family each and every one of them and I love them more than I love myself mum, I never abandoned you Nick, you know I love you most"

" Well I'm starting to doubt it, mum that's not good you should try loving yourself a little bit more" he encouraged trying to hold back his tears.

" I really think you should think about it, me and Lian will be more than happy to accommodate you in our home, if you decide to come live with us" he said one more time trying to get her to change her mind.

Nick and his mum talked for hours before he realised the time and Nick had to go " Why are you going, just stay" she suggested.

" I can't Lian's father is the reason I came down here"

" I know that but why don't you just stay here for the night"

" No mom, I don't want to wake up at the bottom of hell, next time if I come around I will surely stay back and spend the night with you" he said

" You promise me you're going to definitely stay back?" she asked happily

" Of course I would and you should promise me to come visit at the city sometime as well"

" Very well then, I'll think about it I love you" she said giving him a hug

" I love you bigger than you do me" Nick replied before kissing his mum on her forehead and getting into his car to go back to the hospital.
