The Last Fox

Chapter 17

AROURA

As Carly and I were walking up the stairs I started to feel dizzy, I leaned on Carly.

“You ok foxy?”

I slowly nodded

“Yea just a little dizzy, Dr. Mendoza said it can be a symptom of the pregnancy. I just need to lay down.”

I knew it wasn’t from the pregnancy, this was supposed to be around the time I go into heat. Every time I go into heat the first few hours I get dizzy, I have to lay down and pass out till it’s goes away. I always had this weird dream every time of the same thing, it was a white figure surrounded by white flames floating in the air. Then I wake up, I don’t know who or what this figure is but all I know it possesses a lot of power. Even though it’s a dream I can feel the power from this figure, it’s overwhelming.

We reached my room, I collapsed on the bed and instantly fell asleep.

I’m standing in the middle of a field, it’s silent and cold. I look behind me to see a white flaming figure floating a few feet off the ground, the power coming off of it was overwhelming. I fell to my knees, I tried to fight it but the power was to strong, I couldn’t breath.

EMBRACE

I jumped up from the bed covered in sweat, I was gasping for air.

“You ok? What’s wrong?”

Dominic jumped out of bed turning on the light.

I tried to take slow deep breaths.

“Yea, just a dream. I sorry I woke you.”

He sat back on the bed and pulled me into his arms

“Don’t be sorry love, what was your dream about?”

I told him about getting dizzy and passing out to see the white figure, how it’s power is overwhelming.

I nodded his head

“I can bring it up to the elders and see what they think.”

I shook my head

“No it’s ok they have enough going on with the Shia, the witches and the baby. It’s just a dream that triggers a panic attack, its fine.”

He smiled and rubbed my belly

“We got most of the stuff ready for the party, if you’d like I can explain what’s happening to the pack and how this child is special.”

I shrugged

“What if the pack isn’t ready? What if someone decides you’ve gone off your rocker and challenges you for Alpha King? What if someone challenges me?”

He chuckled and pulled my face up to look at him

“First I would love to see anyone challenge me and you, second the pack as so far accepted all that’s happened. The elders are also willing to confirm this child is special and will bring a new age of hybrids, and if anyone still doesn’t like it they can leave.”

He gave me a deep kiss, I nestled my head into his neck I was still feeling dizzy. The room was beginning to spin, I was having trouble breathing

“You ok foxy?”

Dom’s voice was disoriented, then everything went black.

DOMINIC

I yelled for Carly to call Dr. Mendoza, she ran in on the phone.

“What’s wrong I have Mendoza on the phone?”

I was panicking I just shook my head

“I don’t know, she said she had a bad dream, was talking about a white flaming figure and said she was dizzy. She just collapsed, her body is vibrating, breathing super fast and burning up. She feels like she on fire if I touch her I get burned, she won’t wake up.”

Carly told her word for word, she nodded her head looking at Aroura with tears in her eyes.

“Ok, she said get buckets of ice and try to cool her down, she said if we don’t cool her down she can lose the baby. She’s in her way.”

I ran fast to the kitchen and opened the ice machine and grabbed two buckets, Carly was right behind me do the same. We ran back up stairs and started pouring the buckets on her but as soon as the ice touched her it instantly evaporated.

I dropped the bucket, I started to panic

“What the f**k? What do we do? What are we going to do Carly?”

She just stood there in shock, Jace came running he must have sense Carly panicking.

“Babe what’s wrong?”

He looked at Aroura

“What’s wrong with her? I can feel the heat coming off her.”

The room was starting to heat up from her body, finally Dr. Mendoza came in the room.

“Where is she?”

She saw her and went to go reach for her only to quickly pull it back like she just touched a hot stove.

“I’ve never seen anything like this, did you try to cool her down with ice?”

I couldn’t speak, tears were running down my face.

Carly finally spoke up

“It evaporated as soon as it touched her.”

We just stood there watching Aroura burn up, then it clicked.

“Her parents.”

I said, everyone looked at me.

“She said she always got dizzy and passed out when she first went into heat, maybe her parents knew what’s happening.”

Carly called her parents

“They said there on their way.”

I looked at her

“Did they say anything else?”

She shook her head

“No and they didn’t sound to concerned either, I told them what was happening and they just said they will be right there.”

Anger filled my chest a little, their acting like it’s not a big deal.

It was about 20 minutes before they walked in to the room with a big black blanket, Mary wore a deep sea diving suit with extra lining.

Ted was right behind her with a big bucket of ice water, Mary dipped the blanket in the bucket and struggled to get it back out. The blanket absorbed most of the water in the bucket, she struggled to carry it over to Aroura.

As soon as she got close she started to sweat

“Ted.”

Ted ran over and pushed a button, the suit blew up a little making a light humming noise.

She put the wet blanket over Aroura

HHHSSSS

Smoke rose from the blanket, Ted left and came back with more ice water he handed it to Mary and she gently pours half the bucket on the blanket.

She sat down next to her and started humming, playing with Aroura’s hair. Slowly Aroura’s body stopped vibratingand the smoke was slowly fading away, her breathing was slowly steading.

I just looked in shock, I went to go touch her but she was still way to hot.

“What’s happening to her?”

Ted shrugged

“We still don’t know, it took us years to figure out how to help her cope with... whatever this is. We assumed it was part of her heat cycle since that’s the only time it happens, most time they were mild and we didn’t need the suit. Only when she’s worked up is when it’s like this, but we assumed it wasn’t going to happen now that she’s pregnant. Otherwise we would have warned you, she normally locks herself in the basement and works out during her cycle. We would check on her and find her like this every time. When it was her first cycle we noticed she was acting strange complaining she was dizzy. Then she just collapsed, vibrating, hyperventilating and was burning up. No one knew what was happening, they can last anywhere between 1-5 hours not her whole heat cycle. And when she comes out of it she don’t remember a thing, she just remembers blacking out.”

Mary poured the rest of the water on the blanket

“Ok hun I think I can at lease take the helmet of, I think she cooled down enough.”

Ted walked over and twisted the helmet off, when he pulled the helmet off ice cold air poured out of the top of the suit, but Mary was still sweating.

“Ha better, that was a bad one but I think we have it under control. Like Ted said they haven’t been this bad in a long time, she normally locked herself in the basement. We’d check to make sure she was ok and tried to help her if she needed it, the best thing we can do now is ride it out.”

Mary said still playing in Aroura’s hair.

Carly shook her head

“Wow, how bad can they get?”

Mary looked at Ted

“One time Aroura came home extremely angry, she never told us why but when her cycle started this happened and it was so bad that even the suit didn’t work. We couldn’t get within a few feet to her, but weird things started happening. The house was shaking and things started levitating around her, we felt some sort of power being unleashed. It lasted about an hour before we were able to get close with the suit, that happened only once.”

I just looked at Aroura, she was so still almost dead looking.

“This suit who did you make it?”

Jace asked looking at it.

Ted chuckled

“I made it myself, I used an old deep DEEP sea diving suit lined it was flame resistant fabrics on the out side and cooling fabric on the inside. It also as built in fans to circulate the air, I add an emergency A/C unit that blows below zero air. That’s only used when she’s like this, speaking of which, Mary my love we have to turn that off and get you out of that before she wakes otherwise your going to get frost bite again. It took you a while to heal from that last time.”

Mary stood and walked over to Ted, they turned off the suit and pulled it apart. We all stood around waiting for her to come out of it, slowly her body was returning to normal.

I was finally able to touch her, Dr. Mendoza walked up.

“Alpha I need to set up the ultrasound equipment and check the baby to make sure it’s ok, I’m worried that the temperature her body reach may have.....”

She didn’t want to finish, I nodded my head.

She get everything set up and tried to put the gel on her stomach, her skin was till a little hot it was melting the gel. She quickly moved the wand, she instantly found the baby, he got bigger.

We all gathered around and looked at the screen, the baby wasn’t moving. Mendoza tapped the wand against her belly trying to see if it would make the baby move, nothing.

“Come on little guy, move for me please.”

I whispered to her belly and as if he was listening he started moving, everyone sighed with relief.

“The baby is fine, it’s grown a lot but it’s healthy.”

Mary got closer to the screen

“It’s a boy, but it’s to early to determine the s*x of the baby isn’t it?”

Dr. Mendoza looked closer

“True, it should have its s****l organs yet it’s to early. But it’s clearly a boy.”

We looked at the screen and the baby’s hand moved back and forth.

“Aw he’s waving at us.”

We turned to see Aroura peeking up at the screen, she was awake.

“Hey foxy you ok?”

I said hugging her.

She looked at me confused

“Yea, but why is everyone here? I just passed out thats all, why you doing an ultrasound now it isn’t Friday.”

She truly didn’t remember a thing, I looked at everyone. I told Aroura everything that happened. She looked at me confused

“I just though I blacked out and just slept for a while. What do you think it is?”

Dr. Mendoza shook her head

“I have no idea, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

She looked at me

“I’d hate to ask the elders to look into it since their already doing so much.”

I shrugged

“Well that’s what I pay them for.”

She chuckled

“Well since everyone is here can we eat, I’m starving.”

Everyone laughs and headed downstairs.
