The Abused Mate

Chapter 4

Anna's POV:

I kept dreaming I was back at that road. I didn’t know what I did to deserve the torture and pain they inflicted upon me. They were going to kill me. I could see the anger in their eyes. Then the wolf showed up and I felt so safe. I knew I was dreaming, and I didn’t want to wake up. What if I woke up and he doesn’t accept me? What if he rejects me? Nova started calling out to me, telling me Damon and Cole were waiting for us. I was so scared but my body wasn’t letting me wake up. What was wrong with me?

“Anna, you have to find the strength to wake up!” Nova was yelling at me. It’s like there was a wall up in my brain and it wasn’t allowing me to wake up. I was getting scared. My body started to shake, I could hear people yelling around me. I heard a woman yell to another man, “Go get Damon! Now!” Damon was my mate, and he wasn’t with me? What am I talking about? I’ve never even met him, why would he care about someone like me anyways? 

I felt sparks start to radiate throughout my body. My body calmed down and the wall slowly went down. My eyes fluttered open and I was hit with immense pain. I was clutching to the side of the hospital bed I was on, my back arched, whimpering in pain. I felt a hand grab mine and my body calmed down, little sparks fluttering from the touch. I open my eyes and I see him. 

“Mate! Mine!” Nova was jumping up and down, but I couldn’t focus. I immediately drew my hand back from his and my body started convulsing again. He grabbed my arm this time and pulled me into him. My body almost went limp. It was like all the pain disappeared.

I looked at him once more, this time not breaking eye contact. He had crystal blue eyes like the sea, wavy black hair that stopped right above his eyes. Nova was still jumping and yelling at me. He took my chin in his hand and whispered, “No one will ever hurt you. Ever. It is my vow to always protect you. I finally found you and I will not let you go.” Those words sank into my head, my brain trying to grasp what he was saying. 

“What?... Why? How could you love someone so broken?” I spoke with tears in my eyes. He simply kissed my forehead and whispered again, “Don’t ever talk about yourself like that. You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. You are not broken.” With that, I slipped back into a deep sleep.

I woke up a few hours later, this time, Damon was accompanied by a few other people. One I am guessing is a Doctor since she had scrubs and a white coat on. I was connected to a bunch of machines. Seeing all the needles in my arms, I began to panic. Damon came to my side quickly, grabbing my hand. 

“It’s okay babe, you need this to get better. This is Dr. Kristen, and this is Ruby and Matt, my younger siblings. They will watch after you when I am not here.” I started scooching back on the bed, but it was no use. There was no where for me to go. I knew they were going to hurt me.

“Anna, it’s okay. We are your family now. We got your back, princess,” Matt said. Ruby got up and stood beside him. She gave me a smile and nodded. My body finally relaxed a little. Nova was growling at me. “You shouldn’t be scared Anna. They will protect us. They will protect us from them. Cole and Damon love us.” 

“How do you know? Ive only been conscious with him for maybe half an hour?” We were arguing in my head and it was giving me a migraine. Damon motioned Dr. Kristen over to check on my injuries. She motioned everyone to leave but asked if Ruby could stay. I nodded. I didn’t know why she wanted another female in the room.

Damon was hesitant, but Ruby hugged him with reassurance. He left but I could tell he stayed right outside the door. Dr. Kristen turned to me and started talking, “Anna, do you remember what happened to you over the last couple days?” I did remember. Every little thing that Alpha Hunter and Jake did to me. What they let happen to me. Wait, was this why she asked Ruby to stay? They were going to make fun of me. Those two rogues took so much from me in that short amount of time. Ruby walked over to me, telling I was scared. 

“Sweetie, this is just to make sure everything is okay…in there. It will be over before you know it. You can hold my hand if you want to.” She spoke softly, but I couldn’t hear her. I just wanted Damon back with me. He made me feel so safe, and I was so scared. I guess Nova called out to Cole because Damon came back in unannounced.

“I know you don’t want me in here, but they mindlinked me and they want me here. Whether she can say it outloud, I know what my mate wants,” Damon explained. He was so calm, I could tell he didn’t want to upset me or make me scared. As he got closer to me, I grabbed for his arm like a child. I never had anyone care about me like this. I pulled him to me fast, while Ruby went around the other side of me. I barely even noticed her grab my other hand, but once she did, I felt more sparks. Family packs accept ones mate very quickly, especially if they are an alpha. 

Dr. Kristen pulled out this long silver cylinder looking thing, it was a camera. 

“Anna, sweetie, I know you are not going to like this, but I need to put this inside and see exactly what damage is done. You have internal bleeding down there and I need to find the source. That is why you keep losing consciousness.” Oh Moon Goddess, no, anything but that. Damon felt me tense up and grabbed my chin. He looked deep into my eyes and kissed my forehead. All my fears faded away as he pulled his lips from my skin. I nodded to Dr. Kristen and she lifted my legs up onto the holders. 

The tool was cold and my body tenses as she inserted it to see what was going on. I moaned in pain as it grazed my lining. She was in there for a minute then she took it out. She led Damon out of the room while Ruby stayed with me. I could hear Damon yell and what sounded like glass breaking. Whatever she told him wasn’t good. Ruby walked out of the room to see what happened. She was gone for a few minutes before coming back in, holding back tears.

“Where’s Damon? And why are you crying?” I asked her. Ruby paused, it looked like she was trying to come up with answer. 

“Damon and Matt had to go out to arrange some meetings.” She seemed like this was normal, but she was still trying not to cry. 

“Well, now that we have some time together, why doesn’t my new sister tell me about herself?” She looked at me smiling, waiting patiently. She began again before I could speak, “What clan are you from? How old are you? Whats your favorite food?” I giggled at her enthusiasm. 

“Well, I am 17, which is why I haven’t  shifted yet. I’m from the Jade Mo… wait.” I stopped my sentence. I knew exactly what she was doing. “I’m sorry babygirl.” She said, and with that, Ruby went out the door where I clearly saw Damon waiting. I can’t believe it. They tricked me. Why did they want to know where I came from? Surely Damon didn’t want anything bad happening between the packs. Maybe they know something I don’t?

Damon came back in the room after talking with Ruby. He came over and took my hand in his and kissed it. He looked up at me and asked very sweetly, “ Did you come from the Jade Moon Clan?” I looked down avoiding his gaze. Nova must of mindlinked Cole cause Damon told him thanks outloud. I looked up in tears, I was starting to shake again. Why must I be scared? I didn’t want him to hurt me over being apart of that pack. He simply shook his head and kissed my forehead. All my worries faded away. He pulled away and started speaking softly again.

“I had to be sure, I'm sorry love. I do have some business to take care of, though. I’m afraid I am going to have to leave you for a few hours, but I will be here when you wake up in the morning. I promise.” As he finished talking, Ruby and Matt walked in. 

“These two crazies will keep you company and safe while I am gone, but like I said. I shouldn’t be gone long.” Damon kissed my forehead then walked out the door. I wish he would kiss my lips. They were longing for the soft sweetness of his kiss. 

I thanked the siblings for staying with me again, and I closed my eyes so Nova and I could talk a little bit. “Hey Nova, so are you in puppy love?” She started jumping up and down again. 

“I knew we would find our mate, Anna. Cole and Damon are so perfect for us. And he is the Alpha. Have you told him your birthday was coming up?” I hadn’t even thought about my birthday. I quickly opened my eyes. 

“Hey Ruby, what is the date?” She quickly did something on her phone and said, “Well, sweetie, it’s September twenty seventh, why? What’s up?” 

My birthday was in three days. Damn, I have missed quite a few days. But that is when I would shift for the first time. On every wolf’s eighteenth birthday, they shift, revealing their wolf, and their hidden power. I couldn’t wait to see what mine was, but I was dreading the shifting part. I heard it was very painful the first time, every bone in your body breaks, and they break one by one. I’m thankful I found my mate before then, but I would be very vulnerable, and not to mention basically naked. Ruby asked me again if I was okay. I quickly assured her everything was fine and closed my eyes.

I sensed Matt and Ruby leave the room. I guess they thought I was asleep. Damon still wasn’t back yet and I was missing him. More then I thought I would. Nova and I stayed up for what seemed hours and just talked about Damon and Cole. Damon’s wolf was gorgeous. A pure white wolf, a perfect moon shape on his eye, and still kept his gorgeous blue eyes. Nova didn’t know what she looked like which was weird, but I guess it’s new to everyone, including our wolves themselves.

I felt myself falling asleep. I wanted to dream about Damon. It was short lived when I was woken up a hand being placed over my mouth. I awoke to a shock. There was my brother and my Alpha. I was still part of the clan until Damon marked me, I can only mindlink with him. I was calling out as much and loud in my mind as I could. Damon was still too far to hear us calling to him. Hunter stuck me with a syringe and black dots started appearing in my eyes. I tried so hard to fight it, Nova was still fighting, this time she was growling. They began to drag me out of the hospital and towards a black box in the middle of the room. I fought like hell, Jake eventually got the best of me and threw me right in. I succumbed to the darkness and past out.
