ORIANE > “Your majesty, you have ten minutes to get prepared,” My maid Racquel spoke softly from the door. Her voice had a pleading tone to it. I couldn’t blame her. If I were late to my own wedding ceremony, she was going to take the blame. Yeah, wedding ceremony. Who would have thought? That my whole life would crumble right before my feet, and from its ashes, a new life would be built. > “Get dressed, Piccolina, you’re meeting your in-laws and future people today.” I stared blankly at him for a few seconds before I burst out laughing, “You’re kidding, right?” I chuckled, “Like who the hell do you think you are?” My expression and tone had become even more serious, as I c****d my head sideways and glared daggers at him, my hands resting on my hips. “If you’re done with all this,” I gestured at the guards and the bags they had placed carefully on my bed, just a glance at the brand names on those bags suggested they cost arms and legs. “Clear my bed ,” I ordered the guards, and made to walk away, when a hand pulled me back, I turned sharply to meet Vale with an amused smile on his face. My eyes trailed his hands to the one that gripped my wrist ever so delicately. “What do you want Vale? I need to prepare for class,” “I think you misheard me when I said you won’t be attending any classes today,” his tone was surprisingly calm. “You’re crazy” I yanked my hand free from his grip, and continued walking. “Trust me, Piccolina, you don’t want to take the next step,” I froze in my tracks as I heard his next sentence; his voice had dropped to a dangerously low tone. I didn’t turn back, but I could feel his breath on my neck. How he had gotten behind me was a question for another day. “I’ll say this one last time, Get dressed, I’ll be back for you in an hour time,” I didn’t need to turn back to feel the cold eemanating from his words, sending chills down my spine, I turned back to respond, but there was no one in the room anylonger, not even the guards, I glanced at my door, and it was still very much wide open. He didn’t need to say it, but I could feel the weight of the threat hanging down my neck; it had a hidden meaning that read, “Dare me, and see the result,” and a part of me really wanted to do just that, except a part of me was scared of the things the devil could do. “Aaargghhhhh,” I yelled as I walked to bed, and swiped everything on it down, sending all the fancy bags crashing. Brianna ran in, with a worried and concerned look on her face, “What’s wrong?” She stopped at the door and took in the appearance of the room. “Tell your brother I’m not going to sit still and watch him control my life like he owned it, for crying out loud,” I sank onto the bed, placing my face in my palm as the tears rolled down freely. “He can’t do this to me for crying out loud, I just want to be a normal girl, that went to a normal school, and will get a normal job, is that too much to ask?” I sobbed into my palms. I heard Brianna sigh loudly, and her feet shuffling as she tried to navigate her way through the mess I had created. “It’s going to be okay,” she placed a hand on my shoulders, “Maybe this new life won’t be as bad as you think,” she inhaled deeply. “My brother might be so many things, but he sure as hell isn’t a monster,” “Yeah, that helps,” I hiccuped. “Where are you going?” she asked as I stood up from the bed. “Well, the tyrant has given a command; it’s best I adhere to it,” I gestured at the bathroom. “I desperately needed a shower; maybe it was going to help clear my mind. I stepped out from the shower a few minutes later to meet an already dressed Brianna, waiting for me. There were three dresses looking so pretty on the bed, same design, but different colours; a red, a black, and a blue. “Your brother has a thing for this design, doesn’t he?” She only smiled, but didn’t respond. “I’m going with the black,” I pointed at it and sat in front of my dressing mirror. “No, you’re not,” I furrowed my brows at her through the mirror. “You’re not mourning anyone, girl,” “Maybe I am,” I shrugged, and she sighed. “My parents, your in-laws, they love drama, so you’re not going too visit them, looking so bland, you need to bring your A game, in this family, first impression matters a lot,” “Well,” I tilted my head sideways, “I don’t remember saying I wanna impress anyone,” I prepped my face for the skincare. “Make it light, you’ll be applying a little bit of makeup, and you’re going with the red gown, it has a way of attracting attention, and that’s just what we need, we need all eyes on you, darling.” “Whatever,” I waved my hand dismissively, “Do what you want.” I sat still and let her do her thing. A few minutes later, she took me to the mirror, and I was awed by the beauty that stared back at me. It was difficult to even recognise myself; all my life, I had lived in the shadows of others, and I almost thought myself incapable of beauty. The gown was a red armless velvet gown, with a high-end slit that clung to my body, and accentuated every part of my curves, decorated with white pearls and matching gloves, something simple yet elegant, exactly my style. For jewelry, he got a white pearl necklace and a matching necklace to suit the pearls on the gown, and a chain wristwatch. We had a little bit of debate on which shoe I was to use, and in the end, we agreed to use the silver heels. I must admit I enjoyed playing dress up more than I thought I would. “We look beautiful,” Storm squealed in my head.
