Chapter 2: First Day

1553 Words
I woke up to the sound of my mother screaming. "Annabel, wake up! You have school." She said, walking into my room. I groaned.    "Can't I just stay home?" I said, hoping she would say yes. It never came.    "No. Don't make me have to come back in here." She said, looking at me seriously. I sighed and got up as she left my room. I took out my clothes, which were unfortunately the uniform of the school I was going to. Once I got those out, I made my way to the bathroom and started to take a shower. After I was done, I brushed my teeth and blow dried my hair. I put on my clothes and started to pack my bag. I should have done this last night but I was too tired to do anything.    When I was done with everything, I made my way downstairs to the kitchen where my mom and dad were. My mom was making eggs and bacon. "Morning." I said grumpily to my parents.    "Morning, kiddo. Ready for a great day at school?" My dad asked. I rolled my eyes.    "I would rather sleep in my bed all day," I said. My mom chuckled and put a plate of food in front of me.    "Eat up sweetie. I'll take you to school." She said. I nodded and started to eat. I love my mom's cooking and so does my dad. This is his second plate. I smiled to myself and got myself a glass of orange juice. I put my dirty dishes in the sink and got my bag.    "Finished," I said. My mom nodded and kissed my dad on his forehead. "See you later, dad." I called to him when I reached the front door.    "Have a great day at school." He said, and with that my mom and I were out of the house.   As my mom pulled up in the school parking lot, I couldn't help but let my jaw hit the floor, literally. This school could pass for a castle at least. "Geesh. Mom, where are you sending me?" I asked her. She smiled.    "I asked around and people said this was a good school. And with the grades you have, I'm sure you'll be just fine." She said, smiling at me. I slightly smiled back and opened the car door. "Don't forget I'll pick you up after school." She said. I nodded and closed the door. I watched as my mom sped off down the road and I turned to the school.    People were curiously watching me as I walked inside the school. Man, I hate attention. It's not something I look for when going to school or anywhere, actually. I avoided anyone who was looking at me, which was basically everyone. All I need to do is find the Main Office.    "Hi!" Someone said, walking in front of me. I stared at the person in front of me, recognizing the girl from the restaurant. Maybe her personality really is preppy and happy.    "Hi." I greeted her back.    "You're the girl who was at the cafe, right?" She asked. I nodded. "Well, I'm Jessica and you are?"    "Annabel."    "Pretty name," she said. I nodded and smiled at her.    "Thanks."    "So, I'm guessing you're new here. Would you like any help with finding your way around here?" She asked with a hint of hope in her voice. I chuckled slightly.    "Sure, but I really need to find the main office," I said.    "Oh, it's right there." She said, pointing to my left. I smiled sheepishly.    "Thanks." I walked to the front desk to be greeted by an old lady with a smile on her face.    "Can I help you, dear?" She asked me.    "Yes. Um, my name is Annabel Thompson and I would like to get my schedule?" I asked.    "Oh, yes! Here you go, sweetie. You have your locker number and combination on your schedule. I hope you like it here." She said. I smiled and walked out to be greeted by a smiling Jessica.   "Let me see your schedule." Was the first thing she said to me. I gave her the piece of paper to hear a squeal from her. "We have 4 classes together, first period being one of them!" She said, giving me back my schedule. I looked at the piece of paper, seeing that I had Calculus first.    "Lead the way."   Jessica talked all the way from the main office to our Calculus class. And that's saying something. Calculus is on the other side of the school from what I noticed. She told me about all the do's and don'ts, who to hang out with, all the groups in the school, and who to avoid. Sometimes I found myself ignoring her because I just couldn't care for the things she talked about. I never really had any friends. I was always by myself because that's what I wanted. The thought of interacting with someone my age never really crossed my mind. I never really cared for it that much.   "And lastly do not talk or even stare at Nickoli O'Connell." I looked at her.    "Why?" I asked out of curiosity.    "He is bad news. Don't even go near his friend Luke. They are dangerous and you don't want to get involved with them. Anything can happen when you start to hang around them," Jessica said.    "And how would you know that?" I asked.    "Everyone around here knows it. Not that many people talk to them, but they respect them for some odd reason. If you happen to talk to them you should feel lucky." I nodded.    Soon enough, we were standing in front of Calculus class. Jessica opened the door and everyone seemed to stop what they were doing and looked at the two of us. "And why are you late Ms. Belle?" I presumed it was the teacher. Wait, Belle? He couldn't be talking to me. Ah, Jessica.    "I was just showing Annabel around. She's new." She said to the teacher. Suddenly, I looked like a deer caught in the headlights. The teacher turned his gaze on me.    "Oh! Yes. Annabel.. Annabel Thompson, right?" I nodded. "I am Mr. Ford and welcome to Calculus." He said with a slight smile. "Would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" He asked.   I took a glance towards the class and back at the teacher. "No. I think I'll pass." I said politely. He nodded.    "That's okay. You can take a seat next to Jessica." He said. Jessica was in the second to last row in the back and I was glad because I was never a fan of sitting in front of class. I am a very shy person. Twenty minutes into class, the door slammed open. I didn't bother looking up. It's probably just some kid that's late to class.    "Ah. It's nice of you to join us, O'Connell." I heard Mr. Ford say. That name sounds familiar. O'Connell.. Oh, Nickoli. The boy Jessica was telling me about.    I slowly looked up to see the most gorgeous guy ever. Okay, well, that's cliche. He was good-looking alright. He was tall, probably 6'2 and he was wearing the school uniform. For a school that has to wear uniforms, this boy surely looked hot in it. You could see his muscles through his shirt. I couldn't help but feel an attraction to him. As my eyes roamed the rest of his body, his eyes met mine. I gasped and raised my eyebrows. His face was just as gorgeous as the rest of his body. But that's not what caught my attention. His eyes looked so familiar.   I looked at Jessica and she confirmed my thought of that being Nickoli O'Connell. " I know he's hot, right? But don't fall for it. He has girls wrapped around his finger." I nodded.    "Quick question, he's not from here, right? I mean he looks different from everyone else. I hope that didn't sound mean," I said quietly.    "Oh, no, it's fine. A lot of guys wish they were him, seeing that all the girls drool over him. He moved here a few years ago with his family. People say that he has other people living with him and his parents but they all go to different schools." She said. I nodded and turned my attention back to the boy I couldn’t take my eyes off of.    "You may go and take your seat now." Mr. Ford said to Nickoli. I watched as he walked down the aisle of desks. Even his walk was sexy. I shook my head at that thought. I can't betray Jessica. She's the only friend I have so far. All the girls started to fix their hair and stick out their chests. How attractive. Note the sarcasm. I prayed that he didn't see the empty seat next to me. Something about him made me feel a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach.    I have bad luck sometimes and this is one of those times. He sat right next to me and smirked. I glanced at him and that was a mistake. I couldn't take my eyes away from him. As funny as this sounds, I felt a part of me becoming complete.
