ELITE'S HIGH
Chapter 1
Sophia walked through the grand entrance of Ravenswood Academy, her eyes scanning the crowded hallway. The school's reputation for excellence and exclusivity drew students from the wealthiest families in the city. Sophia's family was well-off, but she knew she didn't quite fit in with the elite crowd. Her parents had worked hard to provide her with opportunities, but she had never been part of the "old money" clique.
As she made her way to her locker, Sophia noticed a group of students gathered near the auditorium. They were whispering and glancing around nervously. Sophia's curiosity was piqued. She wove through the crowd, her long brown hair bobbing behind her.
"What's going on?" Sophia asked her friend, Rachel, who was standing nearby.
"There's been a theft," Rachel replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "Someone stole Mrs. Pembroke's priceless art collection from her office."
Sophia's eyes widened. Mrs. Pembroke was a beloved teacher, and the art collection was a treasured part of the school's heritage. The pieces had been donated by alumni and were worth millions.
"I heard the police are investigating," Rachel continued. "But I don't know who could have done it. It's not like anyone here needs the money."
Sophia nodded, her mind racing with possibilities. She had a feeling that this was more than just a simple theft. The students at Ravenswood Academy were known for their privilege and entitlement, but they weren't typically thieves.
As Sophia turned to head to her next class, she caught sight of Alexander standing across the hallway. He was leaning against a locker, his piercing blue eyes fixed on her. Sophia felt a shiver run down her spine. Alexander was known for his charm and good looks, but there was something about him that didn't quite add up.
Sophia had heard rumors about Alexander's family being involved in shady business dealings. Some people said they were corrupt, while others claimed they were just ruthless entrepreneurs. Whatever the truth was, Sophia knew that Alexander was someone to be reckoned with.
As she watched, Alexander pushed off from the locker and strode towards her. Sophia felt her heart beat faster, unsure of what to expect.
"Hey, Sophia," Alexander said, his voice low and smooth. "What's going on?"
Sophia hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. "Just talking about the theft," she said finally.
Alexander's eyes flickered, and for a moment, Sophia thought she saw something there, something that looked almost like guilt. But then his mask slipped back into place, and he was smiling again.
"Yeah, it's crazy," Alexander said. "I hope they catch whoever did it."
Sophia nodded, feeling a sense of unease. She wasn't sure what to make of Alexander, but she knew she needed to be careful around him.
As they parted ways, Sophia couldn't shake the feeling that Alexander was hiding something. And she was determined to find out what it was.
