Burns

Christian shook his head.

“Tori and Kyree have to stay.”

I looked at Daniel.

“Fine.”

Everyone walked out of the building and Daniel looked at him.

“Who are you?”

“Christian Den.”

“How old are you?”

“Seventeen, I’ve been friends with Tori for five years, my sister's name was Alyssa, I grew up in Kankakee my whole life.”

“What’s something about Tori that not a lot of people would know about besides you?”

He looked at me.

“She had this lip gloss that I was obsessed with during our freshman year. I would steal it from her on the daily because it smelled so good. I didn’t put it on, but I’d sit there and smell it for the entire class period and tried buying it from her.”

I chuckled.

“You said, ‘I’m not gay, but this is good as-f.’”

He started laughing then Daniel looked at me.

“How’d you bring him back?”

“I killed him with energy then using that same energy I shocked his heart back to beating.”

“How long did you wait?”

“Five seconds.”

He nodded his head. Then pulled out a different Walkie Talkie.

“He’s human again, right?”

“We are going to have to bring him back for testing.”

“I don’t care what testing you have to do. Just make sure that it’s not something that could kill me.”

“Again.”

He hit me then rolled his eyes. Kyree pulled me off to the side with him.

“How well do you know him?”

“He’s my best friend. I knew his family and I would be with him all the time. It’s nothing romantic or anything like that, we see each other as siblings.”

“Since you just brought him back, he might catch feelings.”

“I made it clear that we were together. He knows too much about me to ever want to be with me.”

He nodded his head then kissed me. I heard a plane whirling then I looked at Daniel.

“That was fast.”

“Too fast.”

He ran outside and saw that it wasn’t our plane then rushed everyone inside.

“Daniel Alridge, Torrence Andrews, Christian Den, come out of the building and we won’t have to use force.”

I looked around at everyone.

“Everyone attack me in three seconds.”

I put my block up and all of the witches started using their powers on me then the wolves used physical force and I could feel everything stirring up in me. I put up a wall around us so they couldn’t come into the building or try to take it down. I looked at Daniel.

“We are safe for now but we have to get the hell out of here.”

He agreed with me then walkied Flora.

“We need help. The government is here and is trying to take us.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah, Tori put up a shield for us to give us some time to come up with a plan.”

“Good. We are an hour away.”

“We don’t have that kind of time anymore.”

There was silence for a minute.

“Give Tori the device.”

He handed it to me.

“Yes?”

“Can you put up the shield while in motion?”

“Flora, you don’t have to ask me that.”

“How long can you keep it up?”

“Until I run out of energy or until I pass out.”

“Are you okay right now?”

“I have a lot of adrenaline pumping through me so I’m fine. As long as they keep charging me, we can last a few hours.”

“Get out of there and get to a different location. If you have to go through the sewers, that can be done too.”

“I’d rather not.”

“I know.”

I took a breath then started shrinking the shield. We walked to the doors and Daniel thought about something.

“Can you make this invisible?”

“I’m not a f*****g God Daniel.”

He shook his head.

“With a certain amount of energy, you can make this invisible.”

I nodded my head then I tried it.

“It’s not going to work.”

“Block.”

I put up my wall and I felt something tickling me.

“Try again.”

I did and this time, I could see clearly through the shield.

“What the f**k?”

“Let’s go.”

We walked out and I saw the government people walking around on the roof and they couldn’t see us. We got a few blocks away and Daniel called Flora back.

“We got out because Tori is f*****g amazing.”

“Well get to safety and we talk about this later.”

“We are going to go to the designated area that was assigned.”

“Are you sure?”

“We can make it there in thirty minutes.”

“Be careful, all of you.”

He turned off the talkie and once we were far away from the group, I turned off the shield and rubbed my hands. Kyree grabbed them and saw that they were burning.

“Tori, what’s that?”

“It’ll be fine. I can get it healed.”

Daniel turned and looked.

“You have too much in you which is starting to burn you. Release some of it.”

I turned and started releasing some of it little by little to not get anyone's attention. I felt better then Kyree inspected me.

“She seems fine. Are you hot?”

“It’s hot as balls out here, that’s a bad time for your question.”

We kept running towards the field and as soon as we got there, we saw the plane sitting there waiting for us. We got on the plane and I hugged Flora and my nana.

“No Aby?”

“He was working with Mani to fix some things.”

I nodded my head then took a seat. I looked over and saw Sarah sitting there with Axl in her lap.

“He likes you.”

“Oh I made him stay with me because you needed to save the world.”

“I didn’t save the world, I helped Christian and got us here safely, that’s it.”

She rolled her eyes and she let Axl go and he sat at my legs.

“Tori, why do you have a dog?”

“His name’s Axl and I’m not leaving him here and if you try to make me I’ll fight you.”

Flora c****d her eyes and everyone shook their heads at her.

“Not worth it, let her keep the flea bag.”

“b***h you’re one too.”

The girl looked at me.

“Aren’t you one too?”

“Half. And either half I could kick your ass so don’t call Axl anything besides his name.”

She scoffed, then I sat back in my seat. The plane took off and we were flying for around an hour in silence. I felt something start to make me hot and I looked at Kyree.

“I’m burning again.”

He looked at Daniel and Flora.

“What’s she talking about?”

“Tori had too much energy so she was starting to burn herself.”

“Why is this just now being mentioned to me?”

She walked over to me and looked at the palms of my hands.

“Is this the only place it burns?”

“Yeah.”

She nodded her head then sat back down.

“We have to get that healed but it’s going to leave some nasty scars on your hands.”

“I already have a few scars so that’s fine."

She nodded her head and Kyree rubbed my neck and shoulders while we sat there for another hour. Once we landed, Chris looked at me.

“What’s next?”

“We are going to sit here for ten minutes to let the crew load everything out of the plane and once they’re done, I’m going to go get healed up and you’re going to have a few tests run on you. You are completely safe here and in these peoples hands. I trust them with everything I have.”

“If you trust them, I do.”

I nodded my head and the crew unloaded the plane. We sat there for a few minutes then we got up and walked off the plane. I walked with Kyree and Flora to the infirmary so I could get my hand checked out. Kyree brought Axl to our room really fast then was going to meet me in the cafeteria. Once we got there, Laurie walked up to me and gave me a hug.

“It’s been a while.”

“It’s only been five days.”

She chuckled then looked at my hands.

“These are going to leave scars.”

“I’ve been told.”

She held her hands over mine and healed them then we walked over to one of the beds and she checked out the cut on my arm.

“Well, it’s healing properly. This is going to leave a gnarly scar Tori.”

“That’s fine.”

She nodded her head then pulled the stitches out then healed my arm. She was right, the scars looked bad.

“So, were we successful in our mission?”

“More than. If you keep being this successful in your missions, we're going to want to send you out there more often.”

She chuckled then I smiled at her. I walked out of the infirmary and headed towards the cafeteria and I saw everyone already there and as soon as I walked in, there was a round of applause. I looked around at everyone and smiled.

“Give a round of applause to the rest of the team that just came back!”

I started clapping with everyone and the team stood up. We all looked at each other and smiled. I walked over to the line and got my food then sat with Kyree, Sarah, and Erik.

“At least your cut got healed.”

“Yeah, it’s a gnarly scar now.”

He nodded his head then we ate our dinner. We were walking back to our room when I saw Chris standing there with two of the wolves and their demeanor was aggressive.

“Back.”

I used my Alpha and the two of them took a step back.

“Who do you think you are?”

“He shouldn’t be here.”

“He’s under mine and Kyree’s protection. You really want to go around your Alphas order?”

“No.”

“No, what?”

“No Alpha.”

I nodded my head.

“Go and don’t try this again.”

They walked away and Chris looked at me.

“They could tell that I was one of the creatures.”

“You’re protected, you don’t have to worry about them anymore.”

He nodded his head then I saw Cora eyeing him. I nodded for her to come over to us.

“Chris, this is Cora. Cora, this is one of my best friends Chris. I think you two will get along well.”

She glared at me and he chuckled.

“I’m going to go to my room now. Have fun kids and wear protection.”

He stepped at me and I giggled. I walked away and went to my room where Kyree was already in the shower. Axl jumped on me and I laughed.

“Babe, I’m here.”

“Okay, I’m about to get out.”

“Leave the water going for me.”

“Okay.”

I walked over to the bag and he had put all of my clothes in the washer with his. I smiled because that’s his way of showing me he loves me, taking care of things around the room. He came out of the bathroom and kissed me.

“How do you feel?”

“Good, just tired.”

He nodded his head then I went into the bathroom and took a quick shower. I turned the water off and stood there for a minute just collecting myself. I walked out of the bathroom and put on one of his shirts and a pair of panties. I sat on the bed and looked at him.

“What would you do if I were to be pregnant?”

“Well, I’d ask if we could live off base to raise our family in private but still work and train here. I’d love you the same and help you in every step of the way in every way that I can and more.”

I nodded my head then he pulled me closer so I was lying next to him.

“I want something close to normal for us. Once the world calms down, we can try that out.”

“That’d be nice.”

He chuckled.

“Why’d you ask?”

“Everyone keeps mentioning kids to me and it’s got me thinking.”

He chuckled then rubbed my shoulder.

“I’m in no rush to have kids and neither are you. They just want little kids running around here.”

I nodded my head then Axl got in bed with us and laid next to our feet. I grabbed the covers and put them over the two of us and wrapped my leg around his lap and he held me close. I tucked my face into the crook of his neck and just breathed him in while I slept. He rubbed my back and shoulders and I whispered, “I love you.” to him. He said it back then fell asleep.

I woke up and saw that we had slept in. I rushed to get dressed and slapped Kyrees leg.

“Babe, we’re running late for training.”

“We have the next few days off.”

“What?”

“I asked if we could have a few days off to just sleep in and relax. So that’s why the alarm didn’t go off.”

I nodded my head then took my pants off. I got back in bed and took a breath.

“That scared me.”

“I’m sorry, I forgot to tell you.”

“That’s fine baby.”

I kissed him then I got up and brushed my hair and teeth. I I walked back out of the bathroom and put on a pair of sweats and a tank top. I tucked the bottom of the top into the pants and put on my boots.

“I’m going to go take Axl outside then grab us some food.”

“I’ll be here, sleeping.”

I chuckled then grabbed Axl’s harness and leash. I walked out of the room and started walking through the base. A few people said good morning to me but others were running to get something done. I walked outside with Axl and I let him run around the field for a while before I decided it was time to go back.

“Axl, come.”

He ran over to me and I clipped his leash back on then walked inside. We walked to the cafeteria so I hooked his leash to a table and got mine and Kyrees food. I got something for Axl to eat too then brought him and the food back to our room. I opened the door and I let go of Axl’s leash.

“Babe, food’s here.”

He sat up and I handed him his breakfast then I set Axl’s food on the ground for him. I sat next to Kyree and ate my fruit bowl while he ate his breakfast wrap.

“Why’d you get fruit?”

“It looked good to me.”

He nodded his head then we finished eating. I went to bring the plates and stuff back then there was a knock at the door. It was Flora and three other people.

“I know that the two of you are resting from the mission, but they are here to take your measurements for the Alpha swearing.”

“For our outfits?”

“Yes.”

“Okay, well I was about to take this back to the cafeteria.”

“I’ll take it for you.”

She rubbed Axl’s face then took the tray from me and left us with them.

“Okay, I was thinking for your gown, we should do blood red with touches of gold. And for your suit, it’d be all black with touches of gold to match her dress.”

“What kind of dress?”

“It’d be a form fitting mermaid gown with a slit in the leg and it’d be low in the back.”

He turned me to face the mirror and showed me what he was thinking and I liked it. He started taking my measurements and showed me the different kinds of fabric that he could use.

“I was thinking silk with some lace.”

“What about the corset being deep red and the lace be black and gold dripping into the skirt?”

He looked at me and his eyes lit up.

“That would look absolutely beautiful on you. And since you’re very tan, it’d be very bold against your skin.”

Kyree came up and he took his measurements.

“Your suit will be done today and your dress will be done in two days tops.”

I nodded my head then they left us alone. I looked at Kyree and we started laughing.

“Did you ever think in your life that you’d be getting sized for a suit for your Alpha swearing?”

He started laughing.

“I never thought my life would be like this.”

We walked over to the bed and laid down. I reached over to my nightstand and saw the bags that we had fist gotten when we got here.

“We never did open these.”

“Well we have been nothing but busy since we got them.”

I handed him his bag then opened mine. It was a book, some kind of crystal, and a letter.

“Welcome Tori.

The book is a way for you to slip into the depths of your mind and find yourself and find peace in this crazy world right now. The crystal is special. It’s something we have been saving for a long time for you or someone like you. Someone that has the power, strength, and courage that you have. It’s to help you balance your powers. It all depends on you my dear.

I looked over at Kyree and he was holding a toy car in his right hand and the letter with a picture in his left. He looked like he was fighting off tears so I moved the bags and got on his lap. I held him close to me and let him cry in silence. I rubbed his head and shoulders while he held me tightly.

“It’s okay baby. You don’t have to say a word right now, I’ve got you.”

“My brother.”

I shushed him and rubbed his head. I kissed the top of his head a few times then held his face in my hands.

“You don’t have to explain anything until you’re ready. Just make sure that you’re okay first, okay?”

He nodded his head then kissed me.

“I’ll be back.”

I got off of his lap and he went into the bathroom. I put his letter back in the envelope and put the car with it back in the bag. I put everything back and I set my book and crystal on my nightstand. I sat there waiting for him for a while before I noticed that the water was running. I walked to the door and knocked before I walked in. He was sitting in the shower on the bench, just letting the water hit him.

“Baby?”

“Yeah?”

“Are you okay?”

“I just need to clear my head.”

“Okay. I’m going to leave you here and let you come out on your own.”

“Thank you.”

“Of course.”

I shut the door and walked out of the room. I walked to Aby’s office where I knew he would be and knocked at the door. I opened it and I saw him in a meeting with a few other men.

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t worry about it Tori. What is it?”

“I was wondering what I could do right now. I can’t just sit around and do nothing.”

“Your body is still healing from the mission you just got back from.”

“I’m fine Aby. I need something to do to keep myself and my mind busy.”

He nodded his head then handed me a collection of files.

“These are the different branches of the government that is trying to work with us. Research them and pick the one that you’d like to work with.”

“What?”

I stared at him.

“When is this meeting over?”

“Thirty minutes.”

“I’ll be back.”

I walked out and slammed the door behind me. I walked through the halls and no one got in my way because they saw how angry I was. I walked into the room and sat on the bed and opened the top file. It was the Navy. Each file talked about the partnership with the leaders of each branch of the military for every country.

It showed me how each position worked and how I would be helping people. Each were basically desk jobs, not field work. I sighed then Kyree came out of the bathroom.

“What’s that?”

“A project Aby wants me to do.”

“Tori, we are resting.”

“How? By just sitting around our room and sleeping all day? I don’t function like that anymore. I have to keep myself busy or else my brain starts making me have these thoughts where I’m restless and where I have no control over what I’m thinking about and that scares me.”
