He shook his head.
“Tori, you have to take at least one day off.”
“Would you tell me to take a day off if we were still out there?”
“That’s not the same thing.”
“The hell it isn’t Kyree. Just because we are safer here doesn’t mean that we are completely safe. I have done things in the past month that I never would have done a year ago.”
“So you’re saying that you regret everything that we have done because the old you wouldn’t have done it?”
“I’m saying that in the past month there have been so many changes in me that I don’t know who I am anymore!”
I stood up and he looked me in the eyes.
“Then let me help you, Tori! Stop blocking everything and everyone out because here we are, fighting.”
“This is what it’s like being with me! If you don’t like it, the door is right there.”
He looked stunned and hurt.
“So all it takes for you to want me to go, is an argument.”
“No, I don’t want you to go. I want you here because you make me feel better but right now, I can’t control anything that’s going on in my head.”
“Why is everything about control with you?”
I shook my head then picked up the files.
“You are not leaving like this.”
I went to walk out but he wrapped his arms around my waist.
“Don’t leave like this, please.”
“I’m a control freak right?”
I pushed him off of me and walked out of our bedroom. I walked down the hall and went into Aby’s office.
“You have two minutes to tell me what in the hell is happening here.”
He shook his head.
“We are working with the human government to have some kind of peace and control here. We want the supernaturals and the humans to be able to work together and be at peace with each other instead of them trying to kill us. So we are picking our finest people to work for us in their government so we have someone on the inside using their voice to protect us.”
I nodded my head then took a shaky breath.
“Tori, what happened?”
“Kyree and I are in a fight right now. I don’t want to talk about it.”
He came around the desk and gave me a hug.
“I may not be your father or grandfather, but I can be close to that if you want.”
“I’d like that.”
I hugged him back and we sat down at the desk.
“Where do you want to go?”
“Where do you need me?”
“I could honestly place you in several places. Do you want to go to the military or the FBI, or something else?”
“Military.”
He nodded his head then took the files away from me and handed me a separate file.
“You begin that training after the Alpha swearing. After we have stability here, you are going to leave and work out in the field. You will report back to us once a week about your progress. Your main goal is to protect our people, find them, and send them here.”
“Understood.”
He nodded his head then sat at his desk.
“That was highly inappropriate of you in front of those men.”
“Think about it like this, I was almost killed by the human government yesterday. Then today you tell me that I have to pick which branch of the human government I want to work for.”
He looked at me and was shocked.
“What’re you talking about?”
“They didn’t tell you? We were ambushed by the human government and they tried trapping us in a building. We got out because I made the shield invisible and got us out of there but it was Daniel’s idea so I take no credit for that.”
“What’d they look like?”
“You think I got a good look while I was running?”
“Were their uniforms the standard camo uniform or all black?”
“Black.”
He nodded his head.
“They weren’t the human government. Those were rouges.”
I shook my head.
“That doesn’t make sense. How could rouges do all of that?”
He looked down.
“They are the ones that started everything. They created the creatures.”
I shook my head.
“Why?”
“Because they want people to go to them and ask for their help.”
I nodded my head.
“Is there any way that I could infiltrate them?”
“You? Possibly. But everyone already knows that you work with us.”
“I could say that I left because you guys tried using me for my powers. That you are the actual bad guys and that I want to work with them because they are the good guys. Feed into their complex and get in.”
“They are going to try to test you.”
“I’ll put my foot down and let them know that I won’t kill any of you, but I’ll work for them in other ways. I could do whatever they needed me to do, other than cause harm.”
He shook his head.
“That wouldn’t work. They want you to kill for them because of how powerful you are. Everyone wants you on their team.”
“Well I’m on this team. These are my people.”
He nodded his head.
“You’re going to work for the military. I’ll let them know that you'll be transferring in a month.”
“Will I be leaving Kyree behind?”
“You have to put your personal life behind sometimes.”
“Aby, I’m in heat.”
“In a month, you won’t be.”
“You have to understand that we have to be together.”
“He has other responsibilities rather than just spending his time with you being your sidekick.”
“Does everyone not see us as equals?!”
I slammed my hands on his desk and looked him in the eyes.
“He is stronger than I could ever be. Kyree and I are our own people and uncomparable because of our different strengths and weaknesses. We balance each other out and haven’t been separated since all of this started.”
“Well you have to figure it out because he cannot go with you.”
It hit me. The only way he could go with me, is if our situation is like a military situation.
“What if we got married?”
He sat up straight.
“Out of the question. You two are still minors.”
“Pregnant?”
“Tori, you hate kids. You literally told everyone that you don’t want a kid right now because of the world we’re in.”
“I don’t want to raise my kid at a supernatural military base. If I were in an actual house, with an actual family, with a real job, I would. And that’s what I’d have working there.”
“For the love of God do not purposely get yourself pregnant because of this.”
“I’m not.”
“I’ll talk to the others about this and see if he can.”
I nodded my head.
“You’re dismissed.”
I walked out of his office with my file and started walking back to my room. Then I remembered that we were fighting and I took a deep breath before walking into the room. Kyree was sitting on the edge of the bed with his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands. I walked to my side of the bed and set the file down and took my shoes off.
“Tori.”
I ignored him and opened the file. I started reading the first page.
“Baby, we have to talk.”
I continued ignoring him then he sat in front of me.
“I didn’t mean that you’re a control freak. I meant that when it comes to us, you like to have a plan for everything and when someone doesn’t go along with it, you freak out.”
“Aka, a control freak.”
He shook his head.
“Type A. Sometimes I’m type A too and that’s not a bad thing.”
“I don’t like not having control over my life because my mother always had control over me. And I’m tired of people controlling my life for me. So when I have control over something, I don’t want to let it go.”
“Why didn’t you just say that?”
“Because it’d be admitting that she was right about me my whole life.”
I looked up at him and he saw that I was hurt.
“So yeah, I like control and order. I don’t like sleeping in because I would get called lazy. I don’t like not being kept in the loop because it feels like secrets are being kept. I don’t know what stability looks like so I’m sorry for fighting with you and-”
He took the file out of my hands and pulled me into his chest. I sat there and sobbed in his arms while he sat there and silently cried with me.
“The car was my brothers. He died while I was seven and he was four. He had cancer and the only picture that I had with him was burned by my stepfather when I was fourteen, on my brother's death anniversary.”
I sat up and looked at him.
“That was the picture and the car.”
“It talked about how my brother watches over me to this day and how they could see him protecting me my whole life. Which is what I promised to him that I would do.”
I looked him in the eyes and I felt his hurt.
“I’m so sorry.”
He held me close and we just sat there, with me on his lap and his arms wrapped tightly around my body. We sat there for a while before we moved and laid on the bed normally. He started spooning me and I felt him breathing on my neck. At the same time it felt weird, it was relaxing. I fell asleep after a few minutes then I felt Kyree drift to sleep after me.
I woke up at four in the morning because I wanted to get early training in so I put on some shorts and a tank top with my running shoes. I kissed Kyree softly so I didn’t wake him up then I walked out of our room. I walked to the training room and a few others were in there but I walked to the treadmill and started jogging. I started running and I ran for around thirty minutes then I got off and walked over to the punching bag.
I thought about everything that’s been happening over the past two months and I let everything come to the surface. I took the gloves off and punched the bag with my wraps on only. I hit the bag for a while and some people stared at me confused and others looked at me with an understanding expression because they understood this pain. I looked at the time and it was almost six in the morning so I walked out and started walking back to my room when I was stopped by the sound of Aby and Nana arguing.
Tori, let me take over our hearing so we can hear everything.
It’s their conversation.
It’s probably about us though.
I sighed then let her take control.
“Melody, she’s strong enough for this job!”
“I understand that but at the same time she doesn’t have control and one wrong move she could kill everyone!”
“Which is why she’s in training still”
“Aby, that’s my grand-daughter. At the end of the day, I passed my powers down to her instead of my own children because I knew she would be strong enough to control it. The training she’s doing is not going to help her.”
“Then what are we going to do?”
“We need to bring Deimos here.”
“Melody, no. We have all agreed that we’d never callon the God’s for their help.”
“Well he’s a deity that I’ve worked with for my whole life and have never asked for a favor in return. Maybe this once, I can ask for help.”
“Tori can’t handle all of this. She needs to take a few steps back and is not going to recieve help from a God let alone him!”
I walked into the office and they looked shocked.
“Tori-”
“Save it Aby. If this God can help me control everything, then I’m not going to say no.”
“You’re going to have to leave. And leave Kyree behind, meaning that you’d be alone.”
I sighed.
“So be it.”
She nodded her head then looked at Aby.
“I do not agree with this and neither would the other Elders.”
“They already have. You’re the only one who doesn’t want help from the Gods.”
“Because they always have a hidden agenda.”
“He’s never taken advantage of our relationship.”
“It doesn’t mean give her to him!”
“I’m not! He’s going to teach her what she needs to know!”
“Call on a different God Melody! He’s the god of dread and terror! Son of Ares and Aphrodite.”
“I know Aby.”
He shook his head.
“He’s the first one you think of?”
“He’s fought several battles with some of the best leaders of his time. He can teach her how to manipulate, seduce, battle strategy, he has allies with the other Greek Gods, and so much more.”
He looked away.
“Why are you so against this?”
“Because she’s like a daughter to me! I don’t want her to be in harm's way.”
I walked up to him.
“I’ll be putting everyone in harm's way if I don’t get help. I was literally burning myself because I don’t know how to hold all of my power.”
“Tori, are you sure you want this?”
“Positive.”
He nodded his head then took a deep breath.
“Summon him.”
“Wait a few hours, please. I want to shower and say goodbye.”
She nodded her head.
“I’ll talk to him while you do that.”
I nodded my head then walked back to the room. I walked in and took a deep breath. I took a really fast shower then woke Kyree up. He looked up and smiled at me.
“Hey beautiful.”
“Hey baby, I have something to tell you.”
He sat up and I sat next to him.
“I have to leave for a little while to be trained how to control my powers without putting anyone including myself in danger. I have to go by myself.”
“Where?”
“Grece. It’s a temple.”
“Tori, tell me the truth.”
“I’m going to be trained by a Greek God how to control my powers and how to be stronger.”
He shook his head.
“That’s not possible.”
“We keep thinking that but we are sitting in a training base for supernatural beings while there are creatures out there killing people.”
He nodded his head.
“I leave today.”
“Are you kidding me?”
He looked furious.
“How long?”
“What?”
“How long have you known?!”
I looked down and he scoffed.
“Twenty minutes.”
I started crying silently then I got up and grabbed my bag. I started packing my things up and changed into my uniform. I looked back at him and he couldn’t even look at me.
“Please talk to me.”
“I have nothing to say to you.”
“So this is the last thing you’re going to say to me before I leave for whoever knows how long?”
He got up and stared at me.
“What am I supposed to say?”
I shook my head then grabbed my things.I looked back at him before walking out.
“I hope you find me before I leave.”
I walked out and walked towards Aby’s office with a straight face. I walked past everyone and they saw that I was leaving, again. I got there and I saw the back of a tall, white with ashy brown hair, toned body, man.
“Deimos, this is Torrence.”
He turned away and his eyes found mine. He studied me for a minute then he watched me study him.
“You’re not what I was expecting.”
“I get that a lot.”
“To be great-”
“Is to be misunderstood.”
He smiled at me then looked at Nana.
“I like her, she’s like me.”
She nodded her head then looked at me.
“You’re leaving in an hour.”
“I’ll go say bye to my brother then we can leave. Kyree and I already said our final words.”
They all saw my hurt and didn’t say anything.
“I’ll go with you. I need to stretch my legs out before we go back to my temple.”
I nodded my head then I sat my bag on the chair. He grabbed it.
“I’ll bring this with us. We leave right after you say your goodbyes.”
I nodded my head then I hugged Aby and Nana then we walked out. We walked in silence for a minute then he cleared his throat.
“Kyree?”
“What about him?”
“Boyfriend?”
“Mate.”
“I can tell it didn’t go well? You’re scared of losing him.”
I turned and looked him in the eyes.
“My only fear is of my brother, not him.”
He got closer.
“You’re lying. You’re scared of losing the both of them."
I looked away.
“Make sure he knows that before we leave because we won’t come back for at least over two months.”
I shook my head.
“He made it clear that he didn’t want to talk to me.”
“How’d you tell him?”
“It doesn’t matter.”
I went to walk away but he grabbed me.
“Tell me.”
He tried using his commanding voice but I smiled.
“Nice try but that doesn’t work on me. Now, I’m going to go say bye to my brother.”
I walked ahead of him and he trailed behind me. I knocked at my brothers door then he opened it after a minute.
“Hey sis.”
“I’m leaving, again. I’ll be back in about two months.”
“Why so long?”
“I’m being trained to control my powers.”
He nodded his head then gave me a hug.
“I love you Tori.”
“I love you too Hunter. Watch out for Kyree and tell him that I’m sorry.”
“What happened?”
“I don’t feel like talking about it.”
He nodded his head then hugged me again. He let me go then I turned to Deimos.
“We can go.”
He nodded his head then we walked outside. He had waved his hand then a door appeared. He opened the door and looked at me.
“After you milady.”
I walked through and we were in front of the ruins of a temple.
“What’s this?”
“It’s a front.”
I nodded my head then we walked up the stairs. We walked through a ripple and it was beautiful. There was a full garden with animals, flowers of every kind, and there was a gate.
“This is beautiful.”
“Thank you. Despite common belief, I love nature. I like peace but I thrive off of fear and terror.”
“I can tell. I still don’t fully understand why she chose you.”
“Because I won’t baby you.”
I nodded my head then he opened the gate. We walked in and there was a training room where there were several people already there training. A few stopped and stared at me then I saw a girl chuckle to herself.
“Looks like someone’s already taken me as bait.”
“Show your mark. The tree is a symbol of power.”
I pulled up my hair and put it in a ponytail while staring her in the eyes and turned to the side so you could see the full mark. I saw her look away then look back at me. She looked at Deimos then me.
“Listen up!”
He commanded everyone but me then I took my bag back from him.
“This is Torrence. She’s a hybrid witch who’s a direct descendant from the Elder’s and believe me, she will not take your s**t. If you want to challenge her, I wouldn’t suggest it.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Call me Tori and he’s overreacting.”
He chuckled then I looked around the room. We walked away and he brought me over to a room.
“You’ll be staying in here. You’ll have your uniforms brought to you.”
“Thank you.”
“We will begin one on one training tonight.”
I nodded my head then he walked away. I went into the room and started unpacking. I opened my bag and the first thing I saw was a picture of me and Kyree with a note.
“Tori,
I had to sneak this in your bag without you looking. This is a way for you to remember why you are still fighting and why you are there. Kyree loves you more than anything and this picture is from when the two of you were sitting on the plane after your first mission together. He will always be with you, always.
Love Nana and Aby”
I looked at the picture and my head was resting on his shoulder. He was holding my hand and we were finally calm with my other hand resting on Axl’s head. I let a silent tear stream down my face as I studied our expressions. Daniel had taken this picture, from the angel that we were sitting at because he was directly across from us. There was a knock on the door so I opened it and a girl was standing there.
