Cody spent most of the rest of the week avoiding Adam, Skyler, and Zack. He felt weird that Skyler and Zack might be into him, and he didn’t know how to fix things with Adam. What if Skyler and Zack wanted to bring him into their relationship? He’d freak out and run away if either of them asked him something about that. And there was Adam, who seemed open to talking to him again, but Cody couldn’t let his guard down around him like he wanted. He focused on his schoolwork for the first time that year and got to know Maria better. She was cool and didn’t pressure him into talking about himself or acting happy when she drove him to school each morning. Hayden seemed better adjusted once his parents were back, but he still spoke like a time-traveler trying to fit in.
