Chapter 29
~Calypso~
It wasn't long before there was a knock at the door. The door opened and James came walking through with his back stiff. Followed by someone too small to see behind him. She closed the door. Wand in her hand, pressed up against the spine of James's back. It was my Gramair!
I jump off the bed where we were all sitting and go to embrace her. She laughs, her voice sounds shaky with age.
"I think I may have upset your guard dog" she says, referring to James, who is now standing so close to me. Looking defeated that he was man handled by an old woman.
Sigrith approached us and said
"Thank you for coming mother" then Sigrith looked at me and said
"I'm surprised you two know each other" I realized then that my Gramair was the Witch.
"Mother?" I asked curious of why she addressed her that way.
My Gramair responds
"There is much we need to talk about. I've been waiting a long time"
My Gramair is known as a Mother Witch. Which means she comes from a line of witches, and with each generation that passes their entity embodies their next of kin. For ever adding to their knowledge and power. She said when she was young her mom told her that she would help decide the fate of all beasts everywhere. My Gramair would have visions of her future, and she would follow them where ever they led her waiting for her day. When she met my birth mother. She was a young wolf who walked into my Gramair's tarot shop one day. She was with a group of her friends, all of whom were human. My mother like me, didn't grow up around beasts, but lived a normal life. Or as normal as possible for a beast. When my Gramair read hmu mother's palm, she saw many things. She told her she would marry a prince. Which all the girls responded in laughter at the unlikely hood of that. But that wasn't ally Gramair saw. She told my mother she would have two children. That would fight to the death for the right to rule. At the time, even my mother did not believe her as in the beast community, witches are not looked highly upon.
It wasn't until years later that my mother saw all her readings come true. And the moment she became pregnant with twins she went searching for the witch. When my mother found her, she asked my Gramair to read her palms again. But my Gramair didn't need to, to know each one of our futures are set in stone.
That didn't change that my mother would do whatever it took to protect us. So she decided she would find a way. And on the night I was born, she asked her most trusted friend to take me away. My Gramair said she had a vision the moment I was born and she knew I was her mission. She found me and Seraphine. And led her to my parents. To a home where I could live a normal life.
My Gramair said she bound my beast to prevent me from turning, so that I could never be found. Until the moment the world needed me. And that she knew I would find my way back home to my friends. To the ones I can trust.
I told my Gramair almost everything that had happened to me since we last spoke. Making sure to leave out my soulmate since James was right next to me hanging on every word. Most importantly, I told her that I knew my sister was close. And that if I didn't find her tonight that I knew I never would. Before long, if my brother doesn't already know, he will figure out I have escaped. And I have no doubt he will do what ever it takes to prevent me from finding her. Tonight is our only chance.
I could feel my beast starting to awake and the drugs in my blood are beginning to dissipate. Even though my beast was still far in the back of my mind, I could feel her filled with adrenaline ready to break free and rage.
"So how do we do it?" I ask my Gramair.
Wondering how she will help me amplify my connection with my sister.
"Do you remember the night you first turned into a lycan? How strong the connection was between you and your sister. You said it was like you saw her whole life flash before your eyes, and you were instantly with her in that cell. Well we have to recreate that moment in some sort" her eyes flash down and back up to me, not revealing all the information.
"Ok, that's sounds like a great idea" it really did, my connection with my sister is now is so faint because of the sedated state she is kept in. Feeling her back in my mind will be a relief.
"So how do we make that happen?" I ask.
"It will be kind of like a rebirth" Gramair says, followed by a pause.
"Ok, so you still haven't mentioned how we do that" I ask feeling like a broken record .
"We just have to slow your heart enough for your body to think it's dead. And then BAM when you wake up all will come too" My Gramair says so quickly as if I wouldn't catch it.
"Wait. Just wait." James interrupts. "Yeah, this is not happening" he says, trying to take control.
"No, James" my voice came out crueler than I intended it. Fueled by my beast who has no patience for him now that I am bonded to another man.
The room was quiet from the tone my beast projected. I turned to my Gramair.
"Tell me what I need to do"
"Well, we could do anything that will almost kill you. But I think the quickest way with the least physical trauma would be to inject vampiric blood" Gramair suggests.
"Wouldn't that turn her? You know, into one of us?" Gretchen asks.
"No" Octavia responds "You can't turn another beast into a vampire, and if you try they will most certainly die" she says, with a glare at my Gramair.
I look to my Gramair for an answer.
"Each one of our futures are set in stone, and Calypso" she looks me deeply in the eye" I know your future goes beyond this night"
I trust my Gramair even though the faces around me do not. I look to each one of them looking to see who will offer me their blood.
