CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

He then proceeded to introduce the members of the table that she would prefer were not here and they were the only strangers at the table because she knew every one of the Nobles, she had known them since she was a kid and they were still the exact same number and person until the year before when the had lost the oldest of them all, he had been quickly replaced with his son who was now the youngest of the Nobles but was still way older than her. “De Vile Blackwood,” Athan said not long after she had introduced her. She was certain introductions had been done beforehand and this was for her own benefit even though she rather remained ignorant about them and what they stood for. “Primus of the Blackwood clan.” She turned in the direction of the Primus, ready to glare at him. Their eyes met and she held it, refusing to give in first. He looked like nothing she had imagined, he was not that old either well, at least not as old as her father but in terms of age, she was sure he had a lot under his belt. She frowned, there was something awfully familiar about him and it pissed her off but the sad part was she could not really pinpoint what it was. Finally, they broke it off because Athan had moved on to the next person and she had jerked her eyes away from De Vile Blackwood to who she hoped she was not about to see as Athan mentioned their first name and that this was an unfortunate coincidence. “Prince Vance Blackwood,” Athan said softly, shattering her heart with slow words. Selene would have sworn time froze as their eyes met and composure flew out of the window. The look of surprise and sadness was very evident on her face but she quickly wiped it off but still kept her gaze on him. Before their eyes met, she thought there had to be more than one Vance in the Vampire world. It was just a coincidence it could not be that she had been cuddling up with one of her mother’s killers but she had been and there was no other Vance, there was just this one. The words zoned out as she looked down at the table, Athan was still carrying on with his introduction but she could no longer hear him or anybody else. She wondered just how many people at the round table knew about the escapade. Did her father know? Her favorite club was not a secret, anyone who knew her well enough knew it. It was certainly not a coincidence that they had met at that club but she prayed that it had been. Prayed that he had not known exactly who she was when he spoke to her at the bar but even as she thought these words she knew that she had been set up and that every other person at the table was in on it.
