Vance knew he was not supposed to open the door by himself even without his father telling him. His father would kill for presentation. Of course, he didn't give a rat's ass s**t about it but his father did, and considering he was already on his bad side, he had no intention of making it worse.
The car doors in front opened the instant the car engine was turned off. The bodyguards immediately rushed out of the car and to their sides. The door was opened in one click and they held it open until Vance and his father were out of the car even though there was no need to hold the door, as it usually stayed open.
They kept their heads down as they stood by the door of the car and did not raise them until Vance and his father had their backs to the guards. As they walked forward Vance could hear their footsteps behind him.
At the exact moment too, the rest of the Blackwoods were stepping out of their cars which coincidentally were the same as the one he and his father had driven in. He didn't roll his eyes, he already saw this before, however, his mind was just taking note of it.
There were Valak guards outside the door of the mansion. Two held the huge doors open. They didn't bow but Vance noticed they didn't make eye contact with any of them. Of course, they couldn't even if they had no regard for any Blackwood, there was no denying the fact that they were the top members of the Blackwood clan and no guard could dare show any obvious disrespect to any one of them.
Vance slowed as his father's most trusted advisers stepped in front of them, leading the way. Vance's steps didn't increase, rather theirs did. They finally got to the entrance and without a glance at the people standing by the door, they walked in.
"Welcome, I am Athan," A voice said.
From the way he looked and sounded Vance could tell he was pretty important but he was obviously not the Primus even though Vance had never met the Kova Valak before now, he knew what the Valak's Primus looked like, like he knew the back of his hand. He could spot him out in a crowd without any problem.
"I will be your guide to the meeting room, please follow me." He bowed a little as he spoke and Vance knew it was out of habit rather than respect.
Nobody else said a word as they walked behind him. They were Eight in number aside from the guards. His father, him and six other Vampires he has known since birth with most of them being the oldest vampires in the Blackwood clan. Even his old father didn't come close to them in age.
The oldest of them who could not walk except with the help of a walking stick was so old even his father said he was alive way before he was born.
Everyone treated him with respect and even his father who has absolutely no regard for anybody listened when Gualterio spoke which of course didn't happen very often and this caused Vance to wonder if the reason he couldn't speak often was because he had an old ass throat or that was just how he spoke.
However, Vance didn't care for the whole lot of them and he rather be elsewhere that right here but he did give a damn about the Blackwood clan and was greatly worried about their future especially with the new generation opposition that had risen. They still didn't have much information about them but for some reason they were a force to be reckoned with as they are able to convince the young uns and a lot of humans and one thing they all knew was, things get very bloody messy when humans are involved.
They needed to make a stand and it was not something a clan could do all by themselves. It was the main reason for the treaty and there was the fact that Kova's successor was a difficult female, the sexist bunch.
He was sure the vampires had no problems with Selene being their leader and Primus, it was the Nobles who for some reason liked to stick to the old ways, same thing with the advisers of his clan who had issues with Selene's gender. There was also the fact that she did not give a crap about any of them and it pissed them off.
They were so hypocritical, not wanting to bow to her that they rather bow to their generational enemies. Vance sighed, it was not his place to worry about such information, his duty was just to attend the meeting. His father was still the head so his say was final no matter how Vance felt.
