She took a step forward and suddenly a wave of something hit her, she could quite place what it was but it felt familiar.
However, her mind was preoccupied and she waved the thought away. It had taken a second or two for her eyes to adjust but it was short enough for her to catch their stares and watch them turn their faces away after she glared back.
Conversations picked up almost immediately and everyone returned to whatever it was they were doing completely ignoring her existence.
Selene paused a little and took in the scene in front of her before deciding to take the next step which was easy because her father caught her eyes in no time and signaled for her to come to him.
Under normal circumstances, she would have declined and sat down wherever she wanted but the fact that about half the people in the room were strangers and people she had grown to hate stopped her from making the decision of ignoring him and she walked to where he sat at the other tip of the oval table.
The round table in use was quite huge, she did not even know they had such a large table on the premises let alone a usable one. She could do a headcount but she was not about to meet anyone's eyes but she could guess that there were at least thirty people in the room.
She felt eyes on her side, back and front as she walked by them but she did not look however, she made sure not to bring her head down as she walked. So with her head raised high, she walked and her heels made a soft clack as they hit the floor. The sound was continuous and she was a hundred percent certain it was distracting, she smirked at the thought.
"You are late," her father said when she got close enough.
She tried not to roll her eyes as she made to take the empty seat beside him. Whispering back she said, "Be glad I showed up." Her lips a thin line, now that she was here she wished she was not and hoped it would be over very soon. The atmosphere was choky and very uncomfortable.
One of the guards rushed to her side and pulled out the seat before she could touch it. She nodded her acknowledgments but did not say a word to the guard who was already returning to his position by the wall. She sat down, adjusting the seat to her comfort.
She closed her eyes as she rested her back against the seat feeling her shoulders slum, it had been draining to make the walk here with all eyes on her and she had not even realized how exhausting it was until she sat down. She made sure not to close her eyes for too long, afraid it would show just how tired she was, and indeed she just wanted to go home and take a nap.
She opened her eyes immediately hoping it looked more like a blink than the fact that she needed the slight break before she faced whatever was about to happen.
