"I suggest increasing our security, at least for the meantime." Gualterio suddenly said and Vance saw the air lightened as they moved to a subject they could actually control.
"Would that make any impact?" A Noble asked.
"Increasing security isn't as easy as you make it sound. The last thing we need to do is get vampires agitated over nothing." Cian Claward added.
Gualterio glared at them, "I am sure we have more than enough proof that this is more than nothing and the faster we do something about it, the better our chances of winning."
Cian frowned, he looked really unimpressed. "You make it sound like there is a high chance we would lose. We are vampires, they are a mixture of whatnots. I am sure we have nothing to fear."
Gualterio's face contorted into something unexplainable. "The last person I want to hear from is a young'un like you. If we ignore them for too long, I fear a repeat is bound to happen."
Vance frowned, he could not quite follow the conversation, he was certain they had all agreed to do something about the opposition but right now they seemed to be at loggerheads, not agreeing to anything.
He looked over at Kova, expecting him to say something but the Primus of the Valak clan looked like he would rather be anywhere else but the meeting. Kova had his head down and was staring at something invisible on hands.
Vance looked over at his father. His old man looked indifferent, defiant even. Vance could not tell if his father was pissed at him or everything else, he could not careless though. This was his father's fault and putting up a front won't change that.
"Enough," Kova suddenly yelled and immediately, everyone became silent. "The meeting is adjourned."
There was no surprise look on the Nobles faces, as if they had been half expecting that to happen. The only people who looked surprised were his father's advisors and Vance wondered why, from the moment he stepped in, he already saw this coming.
"We do not have time to stall…" an advisor started to say but De Vile stretched out his hand to stop him from speaking.
"When is the next meeting then?" De Vile asked Kova.
Kova took his time, slowly raising his head to stare at De Vile. Everybody could tell he was pissed. "When we have somehow figured out your mess. As unbelievable as it seems, the Valak clan won't follow you without Selene and as much as I hate to admit it, we do not have the vampire power to take on the new league of humans and vampires. However, that won't work without Selene as the Valak clan won't follow you if she does not agree to it. They might, if I order it but for how long and as we have discovered time isn't on our side. So, even if it hurts your pride the last thing you need is her not on your side. Pray to whatever you hold dear that this mess is fixable or we are all in big trouble."
