CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

1035 Words
Selene closed the door a little too hard. She rested on the closed door for about a couple of seconds before she pushed herself away and began walking back the way she had come. "Are you leaving already, Selene?" Pam asked as Selene reached the main door. "Yes, Pam!" She half yelled half spoke. "Oh, um we assumed you would work from home as usual." The poor maid stuttered as she spoke to Selene. "Not today Pam, " she replied as she tried to control herself. She was pissed at her father, taking it out on anybody else, was uncalled for. "Could you bring everything you think is important in my workroom to the car? Actually, just bring the personal computer. I can sort everything else." "Yes, princess," Pam muttered and literally fled. Selene bit the insides of her cheeks, her anger must be pretty obvious because she couldn't remember the last time Pam called her princess. She groaned and rushed out the open door, this time around the guards beat her to it. Her car was already pulled up with Manuel standing beside the open with her keys dangling in his palm. She has only spoken to Pam for a few seconds, how did he get the car here so fast. Creepy. She took it out of his hands without another word and sat in the car as she watched Manuel bow his head a little at her. She rolled her eyes, knowing that he wasn't going to leave the car side until she drove off and that wasn't about to happen soon. Things didn't go as she had planned. She thought she would have a long talk with her father and then remind him why this didn't make any sense but when she was in his presence her sense of reasoning flew out the window. She couldn't comprehend what could have happened to let her father consider this option of not just a peace treaty with the Blackwood but to also sign up his daughter as the proof of their union. None of this was going to happen with her around to stop it, maybe if her father had raised her differently but he didn't. She would continually be against this even if she had to do this alone. She would dive in claws, fangs, and all. She wouldn't roll over and let the Nobles or her father do with her as they like. There was no way in hell. First off, they had the audacity to come up with such a ground-shaking decision without thinking of even running it with her let alone give her say in the matter. It was so unbelievable, it was almost comical. She heard the main entrance open and without looking back she knew instantly that Pam was carefully making her way to her car and to where she was seated. She came through the passenger side and was about to start walking around the car to Selene's side of the car when Selene quickly slid the window down. "Just place it there," she said to Pam. "Okay," Pam replied, grinning a little. She looked like she was about to say something but decided against it. Selene quickly closed her car door and started the engine. She couldn't remember the last time she worked from the company but she couldn't bear to stay even one more minute in the house. She looked backward, not to look at the house but to be sure she could drive off without incident and drive off, she did. The company was about a twenty minutes drive from the mansion. Usually, since she was her father's personal assistant she didn't have to show up at the company and always just worked from the mansion but not today. She had work she couldn't ignore or leave hanging for too long and considering she had been off work for two full days, there was quite a lot piled up. There were definitely important emails she had to attend to. Speaking of important emails, she couldn't comprehend how something this extensive had been going on and she had no absolutely no idea. How did she not sense? The huge gates opened up even before she was close enough and she drove out without looking back. She hated the company and preferred to work from the mansion. Now, here she was on her way there. Her father was going to pay. She mocked laughter, throwing her head backward for a brief moment at the realization that she had done absolutely nothing about her current situation. There was still a peace treaty going to happen and she was about to get married. She groaned and returned her eyes to the road, an accident wouldn't solve her situation in fact it would worsen it. She made a mental note not to think too much about all these but there was no way she was going to let them marry her off. The peace treaty could happen for all she cared but she wasn't going to marry the son of her mother's killer. They would have to kill her for that to happen. She had as much say as her father did but this obviously wasn't a personal decision. Oathic had been done, she couldn't change it. She still couldn't wrap her head around the fact that they held an Oathic without her. She didn't give a s**t about what her father's reasons were even though she couldn't deny the fact that it was definitely going to be a good enough reason. Nothing was good enough for them to join hands with the Blackwood. Nothing. However, what bothered her the most from what he had said was that vampires were on the verge of war. "Bullshit!" She screamed out loud. There hasn't been a war in ages, vampires had other things taking up their time now. Besides, the animosity between the two powerhouses was a squabble compared to what war actually was. She wasn't going to let him use underhanded tactics to get her to agree. Her father had never lied to her before or gone behind her back, so it was a lot for her to take in.
