CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE

507 Words
He was immediately let out of the gates and as Vance looked around trying to find the shortest path to his house a crazy idea got into his head and he had barely processed the thoughts when his body began to move in the direction of her house. He was telling himself it was a bad idea but his body was not listening. He was not listening and even though her house was way out of the way to his own house, he ran still. He started off on the main road, running on the paths beside cars but he knew he would have to cut through houses to get to her faster. He was not worried about running out of energy but he wanted to get to her house fast enough before he chicken out. He immediately cut through a street path and jumped over a fence. He heard a dog bark but he was already past the house and into a different street. His speed was not anything too impressive but he was sure they would get him to her house in a couple of minutes especially since he chose a short path. He should reach the straight road where her house resided at the end. Vance's speed drastically reduced and he found that he was no longer running but rather he was jogging and soon enough it changed to leisurely walking. He didn't need to check the numbers in front of the houses to find hers, he had been there often enough to know it like he knew the back of his palm, and of course she had not been aware. He had not been creeping around, merely taking an evening stroll even if the sole purpose was to try to catch glimpses of her leaving her apartment but that was before he even met her official. After the club, he had made sure to stop strolling around her neighborhood like a major creep. Her car was parked haphazardly in front of her house. This was not unusual and considering the night she just had Vance was surprised she had not destroyed the car before getting home. It looked to be in perfect shape even though the lawn was completely ruined and maybe a few flowers too but that could be easily fixed. Vance felt himself grow warm as he walked up to her door. He passed her car and his throat suddenly felt super dry, he swallowed just as a huge part of him began to scream at how much of a bad idea this was. However, he was here already, the least he could do was see it through. He rubbed his palms together, not out of cold, it was more from the need for something to do. He got onto her porch and the urge to chicken out felt even stronger. Vance quickly unbuttoned the third button of his shirt, it suddenly felt very hard to breathe. Tired of stalling he immediately stretched out his hand to press on the doorbell.
