Chapter 2

Both of them got engaged in a brutal brawl, but Jack was not as strong as Alex, he was a beta wolf. Yet, he was able to display his strength by fighting for me. When Alex realized he could no longer take any more of Lucas's power hits, he retreated, looking into my eyes, "You will pay for this. I will make you pay." I was still lost in awe of everything that had just happened, and I wished my father was here to witness Alex's savagery. No matter how hard I try to convince him, he still would not let me have my way. It is left to me to choose the path I must follow now. After attending to Lucas's wounds, I went to meet with Lily, my closest friend, and a member of my pack. I tried to shake off the encounter of the previous night, but the memories kept flooding my mind. I was also perturbed as to why Lucas, a new member of the pack, would stand to face the leader of the pack just for me. I could feel an unusual attraction to him. "Kat, what brings you here?" Kat said, as she placed her quiver on the floor and dropped her morning catch - a deer - in front of her wooden house. "I had the most dangerous of experiences yesterday." She paused with dissecting the animal and rose to meet me at eye level. "Alex, he... attacked me." "I knew that slithering serpent would not take the rejection lightly," she grabbed her axe, which was resting on a log of wood, and started to split the wood into bits, "I warned you to not incur his anger." "You of all people should know why I refused him, I don't believe in all these whimsical fantasies." "Of course, I do, I very well do know what is at stake: your life or your love." "Too bad I can't give him any of the two." I received the bundle of wood, and took them to the back of her house, while she followed with the deer. "Then he would have to take your life if you refuse to give him your love willingly." Lily's words sent thrills down my spine, making my knees shift out of their sockets and my heart sink deep into my stomach. I watched her set fire to the wood and prepared to grill the deer. I was lost in the shards of flame as they glowed, then Lily snapped at me to pull me out of my drowse. "It's gonna be fine," she said, rubbing her hand on my shoulder affectionately, "how were you able to escape his grip when he attacked you." I felt a surge of discomfort floods my memory. "Lucas," I paused, stared into the flame, and switched my sight over to Lily, "he saved me. He stood up to the awesome strength of Alex." "The new guy? How was he able to know you were in danger." Lily squinted her eyes at me. "I... don't know either. Maybe he was out hunting or I might just have been lucky." "Or maybe he was stalking you. Have you ever thought of that?" I was puzzled at Lily's suggestion and for a moment saw some traces of truth and realism in it. "Why would he stalk me?" "I don't know, maybe he likes you," Lily answered with a shrug. I wished it was true, I was already starting to have an attraction towards him since he joined our pack, but I was not ready to get involved with love. "Maybe." While we savored the aroma of the roasting deer, we heard movements in the woods near Lily's house. Her house is a secluded one beyond Echo Falls's thick forest, yet, it was an open ground. She was able to build an eye-catching abode there, warding off local werewolf hunters in the vicinity and rogue werewolves alike. "What is that?" I asked with fear skittering all over my face. Lily put out the fire immediately and hurried.to her front yard to pick up her axe and arrows, but by the time we got there some werewolves were waiting for us. "Who are they? Alex's boys?" Lily said as the werewolves surrounded us. "They don't look like members of our pack." "Then who are they? Rogues?" As they got closer to us, snarling and growling at us, I noticed the skull tattoo most of them had on their necks. "Look at that," I said, calling Lily's attention to the tattoo, "they are from the death pack." "Those scumbags, they must be wishing for death wish," Lily spat. The werewolves charged at us with force and we reciprocated. However, there were too many of them to fight off, and despite our extreme fighting abilities, we were unable to overpower them. They were about to claw out our hearts when a voice stopped them and instructed them to knock us out instead. I opened my eyes in a cold dungeon, shallow and dry. Lily was not with me by the time I woke up, I was alone and afraid. The dungeon was dark and I heard a close snort in the dungeon, and my senses trickled in. I recoiled immediately and glued myself to the opposite wall. Out of the darkness, a wild pig tried to pounce at me but it was in chains. "Help! Help me!" I yelled, banging at the dungeon's steel door. A Scoire - ferocious wild pigs that only feed on flesh - even in chains was still enough of a match for a fumbling werewolf like me. It snarled ferociously, trying to break loose from the chains and shred me into a million pieces. "Somebody help me!" I kept banging at the door. I heard a loud cackle of a man, as he descended the stairs leading to the dungeon. "Look who we got here," he said, with an elfish smile plastered on his face, "if it is not the daughter of the brave Grey Alpha." "Who are you? What do you want from me?" "It does not matter who I am, all that matters is that every member of this pack will have their turn with you tonight," he erupted a loud chuckle and continued, "I will show my superiority to every other wolf pack and make them bow before me." "You can not do that. My entire pack would hunt you down and feed you to the vultures of the sky." I retorted but scared deep within. "Before they do, you would be long dead and instead, it would be you the vultures would feast on." His coarse giggle made me want to jump out of my skin. I stretched my claws to cut off the smile from his face but I missed. I feared Alex, but the thought of what this man is about to do made my spine c***k and my knees wobble. "You won't dare. You will not!" I yelled at him out fear. "Oh watch me do it. And it's going to be more fun if the Grey Alpha comes to join you in the underworld, isn't it?" He cackled elfishly.
