Chapter 4

I was brought back to my consciousness with a splash of water on my face. By reflex, I wanted to attack who splashed my face with water, only for me to realize that I have been chained. This was not my first time in the dungeon so it did not break me, what put me in distress was the thought of what is about to happen to Kat. I tried to break free from the chain but it got stronger with every attempt. The dungeon door opened and I saw Dylan strutting, he gazed into my eyes and spat on the floor. "I gave you just one mission to prove yourself worthy of your position in my cabinet and you flopped it." His coarse voice reverberated through the dungeon, returning shrewd echoes that screeched through my ears. "Tell me, what were thinking." He said, tapping me on my cheeks. "What do you mean?" "What do I mean? I asked you to spearhead the beginning of our victory over the shadow pack by killing the Grey Alpha, the man who has always foiled our plans with his wisdom, instead, you chose to fall in love with his daughter." My eyes brightened. I was unaware of such a thing until now. I looked at Dylan with disbelief, "Don't play tricks here Dylan." "Do I look like a clown to you? If I had not stepped in, you would have ruined my years of preparation and hard work, because of your foolishness and your inability to control your emotions." "I did not fall in love with her and I was even unaware she was his daughter." "Oh really? You would have to do better than that to convince me otherwise." "I had to get close enough to one of them to fulfill my mission. For us to have victory over them, she was part of my plan, and falling in love was far from it." Something in me told me I lied. I am unable to help the way I feel anytime I am around her like the whole Earth has gone to sleep and it remained just two of us. It was a feeling I had never felt for anyone, maybe it was love. We were fated to be mates. "Don't tell me what I know to be true! I am not a child. If truly she was a part of your plan then killing her would not do you any bad, would it?" "No! Don't you dare touch her," I snarled, trying to reach my fangs to his neck but the chains restricted me. He then tucked his claw deep into my stomach, twisting my intestines. "Don't you ever shout at me again? Remember who is in control, I will no longer take any of your frivolous actions." He turned around to leave and I was angered. "Dylan!" I roared, with blood dripping from my stomach and mouth. He paused, then craned his neck backward to look at me."if you hurt her, I am of the pack." I said confidently. He laughed maniacally as he walked back towards me. "You won't dare do that. "Try me. If you hurt a single strand of her hair, I am of the pack and I would torment you till I make sure you go to hell." I locked eyes with him as the words flowed out. I noticed the fear that gripped him and the sullen expression his elfish grin morphed into. "You will not dare!" He intonated his voice such that the echoes repeated it five times. "You can give it a try or we can settle this another way. Give me a little the to finally fulfill my mission, everything will still go as planned except you choose to do otherwise." "After this is over, I will see to it that you receive your punishment in full." "I am not scared of what you will do to me." "Good, because you have only two months to wrap this up and give me positive feedback." "That will not be a problem." "You sound confident. Don't mess this up." He turned about to leave the dungeon. He paused while he reached the dungeon door and said, "Remember, love is a sin only punishable by death. Now go be the hero for the last time." After he left, I was released from my shackles and, straightforwardly I found my way to Kat's cell. Dylan made it look like I came to save her, which in one way I did. We were able to locate Lily's cell as well, although it went down with a fight. I was forced to kill my pack members because of her, and I didn't flinch a bit. We rested in the woods after escaping Dylan's clutches, to pass the night and continue our journey to our various abode. While Lily slept, I stalked Kat to a lake. It was the same lake she had always gone to since I started watching her. She played with the water and I was lost in her beautiful smile until she caught my sight. We sat together on a rock beside the lake and became mute for a while. "Can I ask you a question?" Kat said, finally breaking the silence. "Of course, you can." "Why are you here?" "I don't understand, do you -" "Why are you in Echo Falls? Why do you always keep coming to my rescue even when we don't even know each other yet? What is this strange attraction I have towards you? Who are you?" I was perturbed by her questions, I didn't know which one to answer first and which one to answer last. But yes, I could also feel this attraction towards her, I have felt it from the very first day I set my eyes on her. "Echo Falls is not my destination," I lied, "I am only passing through. I am a sojourner who only keeps traveling, running from my demons." While we talked, I sensed Shanice lurking in the woods and I excused myself from Kat. "Over here," Shanice said, startling me as she snuck up on me. "I hate it when you do that." "I don't need to ask how it went with Dylan, do I?" She said, noticing the bruises on me. "I asked him to give me time and he gave me two months." "Two months? You don't have that much time any longer." "Why? I can do it in two months." "I am just returning from spying on a group of Lycans across the mountains, they plan to start a war against the Shadow pack. If they get here sooner, Dylan's plans of seizing power will become impossible and you become a dead meat in his hand." "That can't be true, tell me it is not." "You have to do it now, before they get here."
