*Third Person’s Point Of View*
Jonah and Aurora remained silent while embracing and let the warmth of their bodies surround them entirely. Aurora’s heavy heart finally felt at ease, but when she noticed the dark red blood covering his white linen shirt, she entered a state of panic.
“There’s blood! Are you hurt anywhere?!”
“Aurora, I’m fine. It’s not my blood.”
“I'm relieved. I was so afraid.”
“Afraid?”
“Yes. I was afraid for your safety.”
“Well as you can see, I’m okay so please stop worrying. Is everything okay back in the castle?”
“Yes, there were a few rogues who made it inside the castle without being noticed, but Leon dealt with them.”
“I see. So everyone is okay?”
“Yes.”
They walked back to the castle holding hands, thinking that the worst was over. Suddenly, Jonah sensed an evil presence and he was quick enough to use his body as a shield to prevent the arrow that was aimed at Aurora from hitting her.
He felt a sharp pain in his right shoulder as the silver arrow pierced his skin. Aurora, who had not sensed the attack, was shocked when she saw him throw his body in front of her. Her body began to shake with fear when she saw the shiny arrow that penetrated his shoulder.
“Jonah! It’s silver! What can I do to help!”
“Don’t worry. Just stay here.”
“Wait, you shouldn’t move-“
Jonah pulled out the arrow from his shoulder, dropped it on the ground, and ran towards the direction the arrow came from. In the next few seconds, Aurora heard a horrifying scream and then Jonah appeared dragging a body that he dropped on the ground before returning to her side. He carried a cold expression and his eyes looked heavy. Without saying another word, he helped Aurora into his horse before he got on and they rode back to the castle to make sure everything was really under control.
“Jonah… what’s going to happen with the bodies?”
“The captain of warriors will take care of that. As for the survivors, they will be interrogated harshly by Leon until I find out who is behind all this.”
“Your shoulder won’t heal quickly since the arrow was silver. We should treat it as soon as possible.”
“Don’t worry, this is nothing.”
*Sarah’s point of view*
The safe room was deep inside the castle and it took getting by a maze to reach it. No noise could be heard from the outside, but it was roomy and had all the essential needs within.
More time passed and there was still no word from the Luna or the Alpha. I was really worried about them. It had only been a few weeks since I moved to Arcada, but I knew they were both very kind. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who felt that way. Even the Beta who seemed to be resistant to any pressure was worried and he kept pacing back and forth. I was thinking about the day I arrived and how he was kind enough to treat my injuries when an angelic voice interrupted my thoughts.
“Miss, when can I see my mommy?”
“Soon sweetheart. Um … this is just a game of hide and seek we’re playing against the bad guys.”
“Will we win the game against the bad guys?”
“Yes, the Luna and Alpha will save us all and when it is safe to go out, they will take you to your mommy.”
“Okay!”
The little girl smiled as she finished listening to my assuring words. The rest of the children also seemed more relaxed after hearing me speak and even the Beta stopped pacing. He took a seat, scratched the back of his head and then faced in my direction.
“You’re pretty good with kids aren’t you?”
“Huh? Oh me? No, not really. This is the first time I take care of children.”
“Well, you have a natural talent for it.”
“I guess so. If I may, I - I want to thank you for helping me back then.”
“Oh, it’s no problem. I’m glad I was able to help. How are you settling into your new home?”
“Very good. The Luna has been very kind to me. I have never met anyone of her status who treats everyone with respect. She’s truly amazing.”
“We’re lucky to have such noble leaders. The Alpha has always treated me like a brother and he’s never looked down on me. It’s as if I’m his equal and for that, I’m willing to put my life on the line for him and his family.”
“That’s very courageous of you sir.”
“Please, call me Leon… I don’t think I got your name the last time”
“Oh, my name … it’s Sarah.”
“Well Sarah, I’m glad we both feel the same way about our Alpha and Luna.”
“Me too. Hey, um .. your arm is bleeding. If you don’t mind I would like to help you as a thanks for what you did the last time.”
“Oh, it hasn’t healed? That rogues must have been using a silver weapon … it’s nothing though, you don’t have to worry about -“
“No, please I want to help! Let me just look for a first aid kit.”
After I found the kit, I took out a small bottle of alcohol, a gauze, bandages, and placed them on the table next to where he was sitting. As I approached him, the same smell of lavender filled my nose again. I didn’t understand if it was just a soap he used, but the scent grew stronger the closer I got to him and it began to make me feel very dizzy.
“Are you okay?”
“Oh… yes, umm I was just thinking about something.”
“Okay …”
I tried my hardest to focus on treating the wound and began to wet the gauze with alcohol. I cleaned the injury and then allowed it air dry for one minute so that I could apply a clean bandage around the injury to protect it. As I finished wrapping the soft material around his arm, my fingertips grazed his skin and we were both startled by the tingling sensation.
I stared at him and he stared back, but we didn’t say anything. He cleared his throat and I placed the equipment back into the box and walked away to put it back in the cabinet. I was confused about what had just happened. I touched his skin and it felt like electricity and it seemed like he felt it too, but there was no way…. he was my mate.
I cleared the crazy idea from my mind and tried to keep myself busy by checking on the children. A few of them were sleeping, and the others were talking to each other. I didn’t get close to Leon again, but I could feel his brown eyes staring daggers at me.
“Sarah… do you-“
Before he could finish his question, the Alpha and Luna opened the door and greeted all of us with a smile on their faces. The children were all escorted back to their parents and all the families were happily reunited. The guests were a bit frightened, but none of them were injured in the crossfire and they were all escorted back to their homes. Although the ceremony did not continue that night, in everyone’s eyes Jonah and Aurora were already the Alpha and Luna. They were the only ones worthy of leading the strong packs of Arcada and Archer.
Since the Luna gave me permission to retire, I excused myself and rushed back to my room. As soon as I got there, I took a bath to try and cool my body, but more importantly to wash the scent of lavender from my skin that continued to torment me.
