Ten Melissa was tired. Not normal-tired, but so tired by the evening that thinking of anything pushed her beyond exhaustion. She sat very still and wished she hadn’t got out of bed that day. “You slept properly last night,” Hal had nagged once. “Fourteen hours,” was what Melissa said. “And I was too tired to turn my head on the pillow. I have the fatigue back.” “How do you want us to handle it?” “I’ll sit here until I can photograph. Today can be a photography day.” “I’ll make you lunch alongside mine, then, so that all you have to do is take it from the fridge.
