Chapter 1
Somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, on an island invisible to satellites, a spectacular scene was ongoing that would have many of the world leaders on high alert.
An Aircraft is parked on the runway ready for its flight to its destination, West Hills.
Thousands of troops from G7 security aligned themselves into neat rows at the airport. Each is armed so heavily that one glance could tell they were not from an ordinary security company.
They all paid attention to the car on the other side of the red carpet. There was a sense of anticipation that filled the air.
Daniel Carter made his way across the red carpet. His steps sounded as he strolled towards the plane.
“Attention!” A voice resounded throughout the base.
“Salute!” the officer's voice pierced through the air with the note of authority.
The troops raised their ceremonial swords as they saluted to the young man. It was the highest form of respect.
"Farewell from the Assault Team, Commander!"
"Farewell from the Special Forces, Commander!"
"Farewell from the Logistics Team, Commander!"
…
“Goodbye, Sir!”
“Commander, are you leaving?” An elderly man beside him asked, asked as he escorted him to the plane.
He was their deputy commander. Daniel Carter was his name. This was because ever since he joined the mercenary organization, G7 Security, he had an almost perfect record, less than 10 fails in his whole career!
Not only was he an outstanding talent to the company, his contributions were immense. Though G7 Security was a powerful company, they were only working in a single country after all, yet the company’s influence had spread throughout the whole continent.
This is the case that several countries’ governments would hire them to do their dirty work or escort top secret and valuable items. This was all thanks to the young man beside him, who had chosen to retire today. The higher-ups were unwilling; however, there was little they could do.
“Yes, I need to return home and spend time with my family. I’m sure no one would be stupid enough to cause any trouble to the company. If anyone is dumb enough, I will always be on standby.”
“That’s good to hear. Our contact would be waiting for you, he is being assigned to assist and protect you,” seeing the smile on Daniel’s face, the elderly man laughed, “Ha-ha look at me, who would be able to harm you? I meant he’ll be your assistant.”
…..
Daniel Carter strides through the Eastbridge Airport, a place he hasn’t seen in years. Memories flood back- his sister Emilia’s laughter and the vibrant life they once had in Eastbridge. As he steps outside, he feels a mix of nostalgia and trepidation for what lies ahead.
Though he would have liked to stay with his men, he was eager to come home. He glanced down at the picture inside his necklace.
His thumb gently stroked the beautiful face that stared back at him. She had exquisite features, bright eyes, a high-bridged nose, and luscious lips. She was more beautiful than most celebrities were and she was his sister, Emilia Carter.
“Emilia, I am back home. I promise to make it up to you.”
His leaving was sudden so he rarely contacted his sister. Now, he finally had the chance to see and catch up with all that he had been missing.
Daniel swallowed the lump in his mouth and looked at the picture. He could not help but think about how all this happened.
Six years ago, he was a typical second generation who spent most of his time goofing off. He never took his life seriously. Therefore, with the sudden death of their parents, he did not know what to do. He did not have any idea how to manage the company left to them. Several forces in the city, both big and small, were coveting it.
Their maternal family intervened, offering a helping hand. Nevertheless, that was just an excuse to take control of what was left of the Carter Group. Leaving only Carter Logistics, the heavily debted company for the siblings.
His younger sister, Emilia had to drop out of school to stabilize the situation, as she was the most competent among the two. During a charity event, Emilia Carter was drugged, having s*x with a stranger. The media caught wind of this and spread the scandal. The company status eventually stabilized but that could not be said for his sister.
Daniel Carter finally realized how useless he had been when the events unfolded in front of him and there was nothing he could do about it.
He always felt guilty for what she had endured due to his uselessness. That was when he decided to leave, becoming stronger he would return and take back everything. Reviving the Carter name and rebuilding his sister’s reputation.
Now that he had achieved the first phase of his plan, he returned for the second phase.
As soon as he got out of the airport, he hailed a taxi to Carter Logistics.
Arriving at the company, Daniel’s heart sinks. Emilia is behind her desk, her hair pulled back in a messy bun, wearing a smart suit but that could not hide the tired look on her face as she juggles paperwork and phone calls. She looked determined as she coordinated shipment with her small team.
‘The company has now become a shadow of itself.’ Daniel thought. “Emilia” he calls out as she finishes with a customer over the phone.
She turns, her eyes widening in shock.
“Daniel? Is that you?” Her voice trembles slightly.
“It’s me,” he replies with a tentative smile. “I’m home”
She steps around her desk, her expression shifting from surprise to something complicated- relief mingled with anger.
*Slap*
Emilia’s hands moved across Daniel’s face. Anger is visible in her eyes. Emotions welled up for a long time and seemed to have found an opening as it burst out of her heart.
