Everything I did that night was wrong, starting with my pitiful meekness. It was eight o’clock in the morning when I got home to our house. Yawning, she got out of the car. I was supposed to be out at six o’clock, but because they still needed me, they extended the time I had to go out. I found Mom in the living room reading a newspaper. “Hi, baby,” mom greeted me.
