Chapter 12

*CELESTE P.O.V*   The dim lights allow me to safely open my eyes. I look around but no ones here. Where am I? What happened? All I remember was the street racing and suddenly the car jolting us around. That’s all that came to mind. But how did I end up here? I try to sit up but notice all these wires attached to my body. As I start to take them off, a beeping sound occurs. A red headed nurse rushes in and tries to lay me back down. “Where am I ?” “Silver Moon Private Hospital” She casually tells me while turning off the monitor. “Where are my friends?” Noah’s face flashes through my mind as I didn’t know what happened to him. “Is Noah Allard okay?” She nods but doesn’t say anything else. “What about Alex? Michael? And Scott?” I say quietly. She sighs as she holds my hand, “Their fine but you need to rest, okay?”. I nod and she walks out of the room. As I lay their staring at the ceiling, Scott walks in. “Celeste?” “Scott” He smiles as he walks over to me. He pulls the chair closer to the bed and takes my hand into his. “How are you?” “I’m great” I lie to him. “What happened-“ He’s interrupted when a group of people barge in. But this is no ordinary group of people. It’s my dad, mom, Carla, and to my surprise my brother Max and his mate Sophia. “Who the h*ll are you?!” My dad rudely points to Scott. I pull my hand out of his grip in hopes that they didn’t see this. Scott extends his hand, “Scott. Scott Washington”. My dad doesn’t take his hand as he brushes past him to get to me. “I told you straight home!” My dad yells. I flinch as this is the first time he has ever yelled at me. “Dad-“ “You see what happens when you don’t listen?!” My mother touches his arm and he instantly relaxes. “Celeste, what happened?!” My mom asks me now. She comes to my bedside and pulls me close to her. “We were driving some cars-“ Scott tries to answer. “We weren’t asking you, young man” My dad rudely tells Scott again. “Dad please let him talk” Max interjects. “A car accident. That’s all” I quickly say. Scott raises his eyebrow at me but I slowly shake my head. “Celeste-“ The doctor interrupts by coming in. She notices everyone in the room and frowns. “I’m sorry but the patient needs to rest” She tells everyone, “You can visit her tomorrow”. My dad shakes his head, “She’s coming home with us right now!” “No can do. The patient needs to be monitored for tonight” The doctor adds, “Alpha Sean orders”. My dad suppresses a growl as my mom grabs his arm. “Uncle Daniel, I’ll look after her tonight. I promise” Carla tells my dad. “You can’t stay either. She needs to rest” The doctor states firmly. A weird smirk appears on Carla’s face as she clear voice, “My fiancé Sean wouldn’t mind, unless you want to waste his time by asking him”. My mouth drops as I’ve obviously missed a lot. And I mean a lot! Fiancé?! Since when was she engaged to that psycho? How did that even go? What else have I missed? Instantly the doctor lowers her head, “No, that’s alright. I’ll have someone bring you a cot”. Carla winks at me as I laugh a little. After my mom convinces my dad to leave, I stay in the room with Carla. “So…” Carla starts, “How are you?” “Fine, I guess” I tell her as she sighs. “I’m serious Celeste, how are you?” She asks as she sits next to me. “Honestly, I’m just wondering what else will go wrong” I can’t bear to say more as I don’t even know what’s happening in my life. Everything is so confusing these days. I can’t even explain it to myself. She holds my hand and gives me a reassuring squeeze, “You’ll be okay. I know you will”. I smile at her as I see her smile grow bigger. I never realized it before but Carla’s warmth radiates off her when she smiles. Her phone pings and she lets go of my hand to answer. After a minute, she looks up from her screen smiling. “Noah wanted to know how you were” She teasingly tells. I try not to blush as I hear his name. At least I know he’s safe. “Okay” I try to say nonchalantly. Carla chuckles as she comes closer to me now, “So…” Her smile grows even bigger, “You and Noah, huh?”. “Wh-what?” I’m taken aback at how subtle she is. “I know” She whispers. She giggles quietly as I try to look away, “I’ve known for a while now”. “How?” She giggles again as she tries to meet my gaze, “Since that basketball game”. My mouth falls open as I realize how obvious it was. Looking back at it now, Noah’s wolf came out because of his jealousy. Scott was flirting with me that night and when he touched me is when all h**l broke loose. Of course it was obvious. “Carla-“ “I won’t tell. I swear.” She interrupts, “But I do have a question”. “What is it?” She shifts uncomfortably as I watch her trying to form the question. She frowns but doesn’t say anything. “Carla?” I ask her. I gently sit up as I nudge her a little. “Is Scott your boyfriend?” She asks quietly. “No” “He was holding you hand” She continues. I guess they did see him holding my hand. I just hope my parents don’t question this either. It’s already uncomfortable having Carla ask about Scott but my parents? My dad will literally have a meltdown. “He’s my friend” I say honestly. “Does he know about you and my brother?” I can feel my face getting hotter as she asks this. Not only is her protective side coming out but her ability to make me even more uncomfortable grows. “No” “Why?” I sigh as I think of this question. I wanted to tell Scott the truth but each time I’ve tried, something came up. Or maybe I’m just making up excuses. I did have plenty of opportunities to tell him but instead, I chickened out each time. “Celeste?” “I’m scared” I say quietly. For the first time, I really let myself feel how dangerous this is. Not only for me or Noah but for our families. Tears stream down my face as I try to wipe them away. “Oh Celeste” Carla hugs me and I can feel my stream of tears growing, “Are you scared of my brother? Or-“ “Of everyone” She hugs me tighter as I continue to sob into her shoulder, “I saw how violently Cynthia and Kevin’s bond was broken”. “That won’t happen to you guys, I know-“ “You don’t know” I interrupt her, I let go of her and lay down again, “He’ll eventually find out. Maybe not soon but he always finds out”. She looks away after I say this because she knows I’m right. Sean will find out one way or another and when he does…I don’t want to think about that right now… “You should get some rest. I’ll go look for more blankets” She finally says, breaking the silence. I nod as I pull the covers closer to my face and allow the heaviness in my eyes to take over. Per the doctors orders, I stay an extra day in the hospital. By the time that I’m discharged, it’s Friday noon. My sister Andrea and Carla are supposed to pick me up. After showering and eating a light breakfast, I start to pack my belongings inside my bag. “Celeste?” I hear his voice enter the room. My heart leaps at the sound of this. I don’t need to turn around to know who it is. He walks up to me and I instantly wrap my arms around him. He does the same as I lay my head on his chest. Oh, how I missed the warmth of his arms. The ability to make me feel safe and comfortable just by being with him. “How are you?” Noah asks with much worry in his voice. “Better” I tell him honestly and I feel him relax. I hug him tighter as he caresses the side of my face. “Celeste-“ “I’m sorry” I tell him as I look up at him, “I’m sorry for everything”. He looks at me with a puzzled expression, “What are-“ A sudden knock on the door tears us apart as Noah goes to answer it. “Who is it?” “Carla” She says sweetly. He opens the door and I go to grab my bag, “The car is ready”. I nod and we all make our way downstairs. “Celeste!” My sister Andrea squeals as she steps out of the drivers seat. “Andrea!” I yell as she hugs me, “When did you get in?” “This morning. Max picked me up at the airport and we all had breakfast” She tells me as she pulls away. I nod and make my way to the passenger seat. Carla and Noah sit in the back and Andrea starts to drive home. “Dad’s really pissed” She admits as she keeps her eyes on the road. “I know” “But he’ll get over it” She says trying to cheer me up, “I know it”. She gives me a big grin and I laugh a little. She’s definitely matured in the time she’s been away. Usually she’d tell me I was right or even disagree with dad. But now, she’s taking the neutral ground. She’s definitely different now. Her hair seemed more brighter, even her eyes seemed warmer. “We a lot to catch up now” She says with a smile and I nod. I slightly close my eyes and don’t even realize how I fell asleep til she nudges me. “Come on sleepy head” She says as she grabs my bag, “We’re home”. We step out of the vehicle and I feel how shaky I’ve become. “Can we talk later?” Noah asks. He stands to the side and I know he’s scared of showing affection. I wonder if he knows that his sister knows about us. “Okay” I tell him as I wave goodbye to him and Carla. As they leave, Andrea loops her arm around my shoulders and gives me a reassuring squeeze. I try to smile but my legs grow weaker as I make my way in. “My baby” My mom is the first to greet me as we walk through the door, “I made sure your favorite meal was ready”. She hugs me while drowning me in kisses. “Thank mom” I manage to say as I stare at dad. His facial expression looks the same from when he first came to the hospital. “So, now that you’re all better” My dad begins, “What happened?”. Mom let’s go of me and I stand alone to face my dad. “I don’t know” I tell him. I fidget with my fingers as I watch his face grow red. “You don’t know what happened?!” His tone grows louder. “Dan-“ “Maria, don’t get involved” My dad tells mom. “Who was that boy then?” “A friend” I tell him quietly. “You’re lying!” My dad yells now. He moves closer and grabs me by the arms, “Who is he?!”. I continue to look down as I feel my tears leaving my eyes. “How can you be so reckless, Celeste?! After everything we’ve been through?! As a pack and as a family, you’re putting us all in danger!” Sobbing silently, I don’t dare answer him. He’s right. I’ve drawn too much attention to myself. The last thing I want is for someone to go looking into my past. My biological past. “Go upstairs and rest” My dad says in a calmer voice, while letting go of me, “We’ll call you down for lunch soon”. I nod and head upstairs. My feet drag as my bag feels like it weights a ton. I finally make it to my room and open the door. “What the-“ I say silently as I take in the scene before me. I drop my bag to side and stare at the scene before me. All of my stuff has been thrown around. My sheets and comforter have been ripped into shreds as they lay scattered beside my bed. I close the door behind me and see all of my photos torn in half. Walking to my desk, I pick up my torn books. Pages spilling out of the broken bindings. The laptop my parents gave me for Christmas was also smashed. “Who did this?” I ask myself silently. I look around to see the endless disaster and notice my closet door slightly open. Making my way inside, I brace myself for another disaster. Everything I owned was either cut up or ruined with red paint. More tears stream down my face as I walk over smashed makeup sets. The floor tiles ruined and smeared with lipstick and broken glass. Slowly turning to the corner of the closet, my heart completely sinks into the pit of my stomach. The beautiful lilac dress I had bought for the ball was now ruined. Barely held together by a couple of threads, I hold the gown closer to me. The tiara my mother had gotten was now in pieces, all scattered throughout the room. “Who did this?” I ask myself again. Wiping away my tears, I leave the gown on the floor. As I leave my closet, I notice something sparkling off the floor. A pendant necklace that I had given Cynthia was shining back at me as I hold it in my hand. Ever since I gave it to her, she had never once taken it off… “Celeste?” I hear Andrea knocking on my door. “Coming” I say calmly. I inhale and exhale to relax myself as I wipe away my tears. I open the door but only slightly, “I think I’ll just sleep”. “Celeste-“ “Please, okay. Im really tired” I say while pretending to yawn. “Fine but you’ll join us for dinner” Andrea says. I nod and close the door behind her. I couldn’t tell her about this mess because then she’ll want to know who did it and why. I grab my cellphone out of my bag and call the one person who could possibly understand. “Carla?” I ask after she picks up, “Could you sneak into my room. I have to show you something”. “Sneak in?” “Through my bedroom window. Everyone is downstairs eating, they won’t know”. “Okay” She says, sounding unsure. “Don’t tell Noah” I say before hanging up. I open my window and wait for her to come. I start cleaning what I can when I hear her gasp. “Who did this?” She asks as she looks around with wide eyes. “Shhh” I tell her, “Not so loudly”. “What happened?” She asks more quietly this time. I hold the necklace out to her, “Cynthia”. “Why would she do this?” “Multiple reasons” I say sadly. It’s true, she had plenty of reasons to do this. Not only was it my fault that she got caught with Kevin but I also happen to be the mate of her ‘boyfriend’. “I’ll help you” Carla says, “We can fix this without anyone finding out”. I nod and she starts by going inside the closet. I can hear her gasp again as she enters the space. “I guess I should thank her for leaving my uniform intact” I say trying to make a joke. Carla walks out with my torn gown which only brings me to tears again. “Don’t worry! I know how to fix this” She says with a smile. “How? It’s not salvageable” I tell her. “Wait here” She tells me. She quickly climbs out of the window before I can react. I watch her drop and then race to her house. I continue cleaning and come across the torn photos. A particular one stands out to me…Noah and I at the age of twelve. It was Michael Ridley’s birthday party and Luna Abigail had invited everyone from our grade. It was a special memory… it was the day we had our first kiss. It had been Michael’s idea to play spin the bottle. I opted out as I didn’t want to play.   —Flashback—   I ran out of the dance just as everyone was getting ready to play. “Aren’t you cold out here?” Noah asks following me behind. “No, why? Are you?” I ask giggling. We walk further into the woods before reaching a clearing. “A little” He admits shyly, “Why did you leave the party?” I shrug, “I don’t want my first kiss to be with someone random”. “Oh” Is all he says before asking, “So you’ve never kissed anyone?” I turn away from him as I feel my cheeks growing red, “No, have you?”. When he doesn’t answer, I turn to face him. He comes closer to me and says, “No I haven’t”. I freeze as I watch him come even closer now. He awkwardly stops a couple of centimeters away from me as I watch him slowly leaning in. His eyes are closed so I follow his lead. With my eyes closed, I start to lean into him. I stop when I feel his lips on mine. It lasted a couple of second but it was as if the earth stopped moving.   —End of Flashback—
