Chapter Eleven It took Meikah a few minutes to come to a decision. She’d see if anyone was on the other side of the door and then figure out what was the safest action. She opened the door a fraction at a time, first peering through the crack and then peering into the narrow hallway when the gap was wide enough. It was empty. She silently made her way to the right, planning to peer through the doorway of the closest room. She heard voices coming through the doorway before she reached it. Backing away, she turned and headed in the opposite direction, towards a set of stairs. There were two doors before the stairs, both of them closed. Trying the first door, she found it locked.
