"We're close to the border, Alpha. Lady Yelena's house is little after it."
Caspian's dark eyes opened slowly as he looked around slowly. His gaze moving to land on the gaurds seated in front of him at each end of the carriage. One of them looked out the window it was the one who informed him that they were closer to their destination.
Caspian's gaze moved to the bag next to him, that contained the gift he had planned to present to his host as he visited her.
"Tell the carriage man to stop moving at a snail's speed." He said, leaning back and closing his eyes again. His expressionless made it hard to determine whether he was asleep or not or what he was thinking but they men knew better than to ask or even worse, stare.
One of them, put his head out the window, removing his hand and tapping it at the side of the carriage to get the carriage man's attention.
"Oi, the Alpha said to ride faster!" He yelled, receiving a nod from the man.
"Yes, sir." He responded, "Hiyaa!" the horses galloped faster, pulling the carriage with them.
For a while, the carriage was quiet again, the guards not even daring to breathe too loud as Caspian sat there, eyes still closed. His thoughts wandering around his head.
Suddenly, the carriage stopped causing the occupants to almost fall off their seats.
Caspian's eyes shot open, darkening as he sat up straight, his eyes looking towards the window.
"Go see what happened." One guard whispered to the other.
"Stop." Caspian's voice came, "tell the driver to stop the carriage. I want to step down."
The first guard looked at the other and then put his hand out and knocked on the side of the carriage, the carriage man realizing what that meant, stopped the carriage entirely, pulling the reigns of the horses to put them to a stop.
The gaurds immediately stepped down, opening the door to let Caspian walk through.
As soon as he made his way out of the carriage, he came face to face with the carriage man who had the intention of explaining why the carriage had suddenly stopped.
"Alpha," he bowed but Caspian really wasn't in the mood to listen to anything, his gaze was more focused on someone else as he walked past the man, heading towards the scared girl who stared at him with huge hazel eyes, seemingly wet with tears.
He watched her take a step back as he approached her, she slipped and fell on her back again, her scared gaze still focused on him. He knew she was about to move again, he saw the contemplation playing across her somewhat bruised face but before anything could be done, he heard growling and from the forest which on their sides, three large large werewolves leaped out, growling at her.
The next thing she did not only surprised Caspian but everyone else who was there. She quickly got on her feet and threw herself at his own feet, clinging on and begging to be saved.
"Please…please Sir, save me."
Caspian looked down at the shivering girl who's eyes began to fill with tears.
Rose, on the other hand did not notice the shocked gaze coming from around her. She only came became aware of her surroundings when she noticed the two gaurds behind her shifting and growling at the other werewolves who backed off a little bit.
Caspian's gaze traveled back to them, "You dare growl at me?" He asked menacingly for the wolves to instantly shift to men, from their uniforms one could tell that they were gaurds that stood at the borders.
"Forgive us, Alpha." One of them said as they all bowed. "But we're here for the girl."
Rose gulped, could this be her father's men? Or could he be using them to get her back home? And Alpha?
She wondered why the men called him Alpha and who he was but because of the situation she was in, she did not place any thought on it.
Her grip on Caspian became tighter and he looked down at her again.
"And your reason?"
"Illegal crossing of the border, Milord." One responded before another added, "She comes from wolfmane pack and had crossed over illegal with no documents or anything."
Rose paused as she looked around in confusion, an act that didn't go unnoticed by Caspian.
Crossed over illegally? Wasn't this still Wolfmane? How as she crossed over illegally when she did not see any border blocks set up as usual?
Caspian's gaze traveled back to the men, "I don't think she realized that she had left Wolfmane. There are no traditional border blockers on this side."
"That may be the case, Alpha." The third one said, his gaze lowered, "But she still need to come with us, she's still a citizen of Wolfmane."
Rose's grip on Caspain tightened even more as she began to shake her head, "No, no.. please, please don't make me go back," she began to beg, "They'll kill me…I will be sold…please, Sir, I'm begging you…I don't want to die."
"Stop whining and come with us." One of the border guards yelled at her.
A look from Caspian made him go quiet as his gaze returned to the ground.
"I can't take you."
Rose shook her head as she heard those words from him, disagreeing with his words, "You can, please…I'll do anything, anything at all just save me…please."
Caspian looked her over, before his hand went to her head, patting it softly, "Hmm, I'll keep her."
"Huh??"
All the men looked at each other, even the guards who had shifted stopped growling protectively for a while and looked at each other in disbelief. Was Caspian really about to take this dirty looking street urchin with him?
"Milord, if I may.." one of the border guards started as he walked closer, "This girl's father is looking for her and she supposedly ran away, regardless of that she is commiting a crime by being here, she needs to go back—"
"I don't remember asking for your opinion or your permission to keep her." Caspian's gaze darkened as he frowned at the frightened men.
"Apologies,my Lord I just—"
"It's a shame to know that lowly Wolfmane guards are as disrespectful as this. I wonder if your King is aware of your insolence." Caspian looked them over, "I should write him a letter."
"Please, forgive us, Milord!" The men all immediately went on their knees pleading.
"Either that or I handle you myself, you forget that you're in Clawnwoode territory, so you're under my jurisdiction," he continued, "I can accuse you of being international spies who crossed over illegally and end your miserable lives right here."
The scared gasps escaped everyone else's throat, even Rose who had began to wonder if she should keep clinging to this man. She could feel a dark aura enveloping him, she could feel his power too and from what she just heard…he was an Alpha.
"Have mercy, Milord!" The men continued to beg, shivering with fright. "Please, you can keep her we won't be any trouble."
"You don't tell me what I can and can't do." Caspian frowned, "I'm not the mood to stain my attire, so I'll let you off on a warning."
"Thank you, Milord!"
"Thank you, Sire!"
"Thank you—" they all yelled as Caspian interrupted them.
"I don't want to hear anything about this incident after today, as far I'm concerned, all this never happened. You never saw her, and I never saw any of your ugly faces, do you understand?"
"Yes, yes, your Majesty." They all chorused.
"Failure to comply and your wives will be widows and your children, orphans." He looked at them one last time, "Leave."
The men scrambled away, shifting immediately as they jumped back into the forest, running away and thanking their stars to be lucky enough to live after that encounter.
Rose who was still on the ground, clinging to Caspian was lost in thought wondering what just happened and if she had just gotten herself into more trouble by being here. She was still thinking when she felt herself being shrugged off by him, she recoiled in fear immediately as she watched his gaze sweep over her.
"I hope you can make good on that promise, girl." He said, "I just saved you and you promised to do anything, anything at all." The expression on his face was confusing, he seemed amused with a wicked and satisfied grin.
"I—"
"You can't back out now, red. Unless you want me to call those men back?"
She shook her head profusely as she immediately stood up and bowed to him, "Please…no."
Caspian smirked, "I thought so."
