Chapter 1
I stood at the balcony of the Sun Walker palace, my eyes drifting to the sky as I admired the stars.
I closed my eyes for some seconds, the coldness of the atmosphere melting me into a memory from seven years ago.
I was twelve at that time, a girl with knees full of bruises, hiding behind the pack’s equipment shed. A group of boys older than me cornered me as they tossed my shoe within themselves. I chased the shoe knowing it was the only pair of shoes I had.
They tossed the shoe into a freezing mud of the creek.
“Omegas don’t need shoe, right?” They mocked me, their laughter ringing in my head. “You just need to learn how to crawl!” Another boy said as they all laughed.
I squeezed my eyes shut, my hands blocked my ears while waiting for the first shove, when I felt a shadow fall before us.
“Enough.” The voice said from behind me, the boys began to flee.
I opened my eyes slowly as I turned, it was Jaxon, he was standing behind me as he stretched out his hands.
He wasn’t the Alpha at that point, he was a young fifteen year old boy, his voice was calm but it carried the weight of a king. He was the prince of Sun Walker, bathed in golden light of the noon sun.
I took his hands as I stood up, he walked towards the mud as he dipped his expensive shoes into the mud to get my shoe. He took out the scarf in his pocket and wiped the mud off my canvas.
“Don’t let them see you cry,” he said as he gave me the shoes, he’s eyes was blue, filled with kindness that felt like a promise. “One day, you’d become someone that they can’t touch.”
“Thanks for today.” I said as I took my shoes from him.
At that point, he was my savior, the only person who actually stood for me.
I was lost in thought, and a sudden sound jolted me back to reality.
“Two hours gone!” I said to myself as I looked at my watch.
“Tomorrow is going to be a long day for me.” I said to myself. My heart filled with excitement as I retired to bed.
______________
“Elena.” The moon goddess stood before me in her mist, had voice like that of a silver bell.
“Today is the day, my little wolf. Your eighteenth year begins. Are you ready for your power, a power that will shake the foundation of the world, a power that hasn’t been seen for decades?”
In my dreams, I fell to my knees as I bowed.
“Goddess of the moon, you see beyond us.” I said as I brought my face up.
“What do you mean by my power will shake the foundation of the world.”
“You are yet to understand, but be prepared.” She said as she smiled.
“Goddess, I’ve waited so long for this day, is Jaxon my fated mate? Is Alpha Jaxon truly mine?”
The goddess reached out to me, her hands on my cheeks, her eyes filled with sadness but yet powerful. “Yes, he is your fated mate, Elena. But remember: The brightest stars must endure the deepest night. Your destiny is far greater than you think.”
“Thanks goddess.” I said wearing a smile.
Moon goddess touched my face and said “Wake up my little wolf, your stars are about to shine. Your destiny is calling.”
I jolted awake, excitement written over my face. “He is truly mine, Alpha Jaxon is my fated mate.” I gasped.
I pushed myself out of the bed and headed towards the bathroom. Noticing the click it was 4am. “I woke up a bit early.” I thought to myself as I made my way back to bed.
I took a deep breath, letting the excitement wash over me. “Alpha Jaxon is my fated mate, we really were meant to be.”
“Today indeed is a great day, I will be declared Jaxons Luna in some hours, my eighteen year brought me blessing.” I thought to myself.
The thought sent shivers down my spine, I felt a smile on my face as I settled back into bed.
As I closed my eyes, the thought of what the goddess said lingered in my heart; “Brightest stars must endure the deepest night.”
“What did she mean? What did this dream really implies? Am I really someone great, or is something bad about to happen?”
I soon pushed the thoughts away, clouding my minds with the thoughts of Jaxon. The thought of Jaxon made me feel accomplished.
I replayed the dream as I imagined Jaxon’s face. His kindness, his words, his promises, it’s all a distant memory but emotions remained. I felt a sense of safety, of belonging that I felt the day he saved me.
His thoughts made me forget the goddess words, soon my breath slowed as my thoughts began to drift. Stars twinkled in my mind, I was floating, weightless, as the world narrows to a single point of the light.
As I drifted off, Jaxon’s face floated before me, his silver eyes sparkling with a gentle smile. I reached for him, our fingers intertwering the touch sent a spark within me as I felt myself being pulled forward.
We ran through the grassy ground, the wind whipped my hair back as I laughed hard, feeling free. Jaxon turned to me, his smile as gentle as the air, we began running again.
The world blurred around us, I felt the sun on my skin, warm and golden. I felt the earth beneath my feat, solid and sure.
The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, waking me up from my restful sleep. I stretched for some minutes, feeling refreshed I swung my leg to the side of the bed. Happiness and excitement was written in my face, “Today is the day.” I thought.
I went straight to the bathroom, the shower washed away my the lingering sleep in my eyes and I dressed into something suitable for the day.
Downstairs, the dining hall was busy with movement, I filled my plate with scrambled egg, toast bread and some fruits as I took my seat. Todays breakfast felt really awesome.
As I finished with the food, I made my way to the ground hall, a mix of anticipation and nerve swirling in my stomach. The room was packed with many Alpha and Luna, omegas were present also. Faces I haven’t seen before turned and took a glance at me. Jaxon was at the front, mic in his hands, his eyes locked onto mine for some seconds.
I turned to see my sister Sarah, she was dressed quite much for my day. “Sarah, why are you dressed up like this? Or is today your birthday? Is there any chapter of your life I’m missing?” I said with curiosity.
“Let’s watch and see.” She said smirking.
As I was about to tell her about my dream, she placed her hands on my lips, “Jaxon is about to give his speech.” Sarah said, excitement was an understatement for how she felt. I turned back to Jaxon who was on the stage.
He began to speak, his voice confident and strong
“Welcome everyone, to today’s ceremony.”
The room fell silent, I focused on Jaxon, my heart filled with happiness, our eyes met again and the thin thread on our hands began to bloom.
“I want to officially announce my Luna” Jaxon said and my heart melted.
