Chapter 6 Mission Part 1

Fred POV

As soon as Lina walked out of the conference room, my own wolf was now on edge. My wolf has always been protective of my baby sister.

“ Tidues what’s up?” I try talking to my wolf.

“ Something doesn’t feel right with this mission, something feels off. “

I have to agree with him that something just didn’t feel right with this mission, but I know that I am going to watch out for Lina. “ Dude we will protect her., with our lives!”

That seemed to have calmed him down some. We could not let her go on her own. When I had asked dad about having her accept me on this mission, he agreed, and said that he had the same thoughts.

Still deep in thought, on some of the strange things that have been going on within the pack, the wrong maps, ( where did that map even come from), rogues coming into our territory to test our patrol guards, to someone trying to hack our computer systems.

Something very strange was going on in our pack, and now with both Issac and Zane having claimed Lina as their mate, this will add more complications to the situation.

“ Fred, did you hear what was just said?’ my dad asked.

“ Sorry dad, I was just thinking of all the weird things that have been going on lately. “

“ Well please get your head back in the game!” he yelled at me. The weird thing is my dad very rarely yells at his children. I know he is feeling the stress of this mission as well.

“ I am!” I yelled back at him, “ Sorry, my wolf is on edge, he feels like something is off with this mission.”

Looking at my father, and then around to everyone that is still in the conference room. It seems that I am not the only one that is on edge.

“ Fred!” Alpha Pete calls… “ We are all on edge, it seems that we all have the same feeling, but we have to push our own feelings down. You know as well as your father and I, telling Carolina not to go on this mission is out of the question.”

“ I know, and it does give me comfort knowing I will be there with her, along with Beta Shawn.”

“ Fred, there is a lot riding on this mission, we have to get a feel for how many rogues that have taken up residence in the old Moon Pack borders. “ Alpha Pete explains…

“ I also want to bring up something that was found before the conference meeting we all had this morning.” Pete tells us, as we all take a seat.

“ Carolina was late to the meeting as you all know, but what we didn’t have a chance to tell you is that there was a note under her bag.” my father says as he pulls out the paper that looks to have been folded many times.

My dad unfolds the note and begins reading it out loud to everyone.

“ People are getting suspicious of our activities, we need to lay low for a while. Will not be meeting today, let’s let the dust settle before meeting up again. Remember to keep an eye on her, and if she shows any signs, call the number.”

“ Do you think that someone is trying to tell her something?” Issac asked.

Watching as my father shakes his head, “ We can’t be sure, but we had already assigned her this mission, or I would have had someone else lead today. We need to use caution when you are in the tunnels today. Fred and Shawn will need to have cameras on at all times!” my dad commands.

“ I agree!” yells Zane and Issac at the same time.

“ Yes Sir. “ Both Shawn and I respond back to them.

I nod over at Shawn, I think we need to get moving, before Lina goes on this mission without us.

Shawn nods back and responds as we both stand up, we notice that Issac’s eyes are glazed over.

POV : Carolina

Walking out of the conference room, and away from both Issac and Zane, was hard. I so wanted to wrap my arms around both of them, just to feel them in my arms.

I knew that I could not do that, because they both have mate’s out there. My old feelings surfaced as soon as I saw them both, and how much I loved them a few years ago.

I felt nervous of finding the odd looking map, until Issac walked into the room, my nerves calmed. He had a calming feeling about him. As we talked about the mission, and using the tunnels, Zane walks in and my mind completely feels relaxed.

It appears that when those two are around, they seem to take away my stress, and ease my nervousness. I can’t overthink this, because I have a mate out there and I could not hurt my mate by thinking of other wolves.

As I am grabbing my bag, from my room in the pack house, I notice someone’s voice, it sounds like someone is talking on a phone, because I only hear one side of the conversation. Walking towards the voice, I can’t find the person and I need to meet my team at the back of the pack house.

The feeling of being watched again has given me the chills.

Walking towards the back of the pack house to meet up with my team, I noticed the eyes on me again. I start to think about the note that I found, now I have the feeling that the note was for someone to keep an eye on me.

Giving my orders to Melaine, Beth and Carla, I turned to Issac’s warriors and had them split between the three of them, and turned to Shawn, Fred and Kris and motioned them to follow me.

Arriving at the tunnels I turn to my group. “ Do you have any knives with you?”

“ Yes ma’am, we will be in close quarters, so it is best if Fred and I do not shift and fight in human form, if we need to.” he replied.

“ Good, I would like the formation to be as follows, Fred to the right of me, Kris in the middle and Shawn. You are our eyes in the back. We will switch the flash lights and cameras on once we enter the tunnels.”

With that we started to walk to the gate, as we got closer to the gate I heard a twig snap, and stopped in my tracks as I was looking around.

“ Lina, what’s wrong? “ Fred asked

“ Did you hear the snapping of twigs?”

“ It was a deer or rabbit, are you sure you're ok?” Fred asked with concern.

“ Yea sorry, just have an odd feeling, now let’s put our game faces on, lets go!”

Fred and Shawn both needed to open the gate to the tunnels, it was rusted shut, and was very hard to open. This was a good sign, knowing that if by chance that the rogues knew about the tunnels they were not using them to get inside our pack lands.

“ Okay everyone let’s turn on the camera’s and comms” I tell them out loud.

All three nod and turn on their equipment, as I am testing with the main office. “ Can you hear us?”

“ Carolina you are coming in clear, we also have video.” Says Alpha Pete.

We start our walk into the tunnels, it appears no one has been in these for many years, maybe the last time they were used was when our fathers went through them.

The thoughts of, if we cleaned these up, we could use them to rescue other she-wolves that have been abused by their mates, or other pack members.

I retrieved the little map that I made,out of my pocket and with the little light we have, I decided it would be best to have someone back at the Alpha’s office to give us directions. “ Alpha, can you please guide us? We can’t read the maps down here. “

I hear King Issac’s voice “ Ok, if you go about 200 feet, you should come to a intersection, stay straight, then go another 500 feet you will be entering into the Moon pack territory.”

“ Thanks” upon hearing Issac’s voice on the other end, sent a shiver down my spine. Pull yourself together, we are on a mission, put all thoughts of Issac and Zane away for now, later tonight we can think of them!

We continued to walk our 200 feet until we came to 5 different tunnels, two going left, two going right, and one going straight.

We continued into the straight road, I noticed at the intersecting points that the growth in the tunnel was minimal. “ Are you seeing this?”

“ It appears that most of the growth is packed down, as if people have been walking through the other tunnels.” Alpha Pete stated

“ Lina, can you have each of you to shine your lights down the tunnels, to see if you can notice anything?” Asked Zane

“ Yes” as I motioned for my team to each take a tunnel and shine their light down to see if there was something we could see.

“ Thank you,” replied King Issac, “ We are sending warriors in to cover those other tunnels.”

“ Watch your backs, and continue to Moon pack.” Alpha Pete says.

My team and I are now on high alert, we know that people have been using the tunnels to get into our territory and to the other packs. “ Fred stay close, Kris and Shawn we need to be tight.”

As we continue to move through the next set of tunnels. “ Carolina, you will come across another set of 5 tunnels, this is where you want to take the second tunnel on the right, this will take you to the middle of the pack lands. At this point be safe.” King Issac’s voice rings out.

We come across the second set of 5 tunnels and take the second tunnel to the right, and continue down our path. These tunnels are cleaned with no overgrowth from weeds, this is a sure sign that these tunnels are still active.

I start to hear voices coming from one of the gates that are about 50 feet from where we are. One of the voices sounded familiar to me, but I could not place it, as we got closer the voices faded as if they had just walked away.

The gate that would place us in the middle of the pack, is getting closer to us, we can start to see some light coming through it. We need to stay hidden, but get as much information as we can about the rogues and now the traitors.

As we stood quietly, we could hear some conversations going on, when a familiar voice filtered to my ears, that can’t be right. Why would they be with the rogues? Just as my angre was about to take over, Fred tapped my shoulder.

“ Lina, I have a very bad feeling about this.” Fred says in my ear.

“ It is now too calm, it is almost like someone knows we are coming, or knows we are here!”

Hearing Dad over the comms sends a little comfort, “ Lina do you copy?

“ Dad, we are all good, we are about 40 feet away from our destination, we are going radio silence.” letting everyone know back at the Alpha’s office.

As we stay in the shadows a little longer, before we all hear a screeching noise. My eerie feeling comes back, with vengeance, as we inch closer to our destination.
