Chapter 31

Once Cole was in the kitchen, he took a deep breath. With relief. It was close and he would lose control of himself. He was not the type of a romantic guy, but the candlelight, soft music, soothing jasmine aroma did their job. And she. He wanted to come closer. To touch her. Kiss her full tempting lips. Feel her galloping pulse under fingertips. Caress her smooth, velvet skin. Make love to her, till she will lose her breath.            He shook his head and took a beer from the fridge. ‘Thank God she asked me to leave her bedroom!’ He thought. But how did she do that? She sensed him. Of that he was sure. She did not even look in his direction. She just knew he was there. That he was watching her. ‘But how?!’ He wondered. He looked towards her bedroom. Behind the slightly ajar door he could see her moving around the room. ‘Who is she?!’             Cole felt totally confused. He was not used to it. It was he who was the master of the situation. Always! When a girl caught his eye, he seduced her. They spent a few passionate nights together and then they just split up. Each went their own way. So how could he not control what was happening now? Why was she the one who was dealing the cards? A young, inexperienced girl from the provinces! He was the player and it was he who should take the lead! ‘I won’t be deceived by her!’ He thought rebelliously.             The bedroom door opened widely and he saw her in full light. The ocean-colored dress barely reached her thighs. Delicate satin caressed her skin with every step. The soft waves of her hair swayed slightly, as if in the wind. She tucked a rowdy strand behind the ear. This move was so natural, yet sexy and hot at the same time. He swallowed hard and she gave him an innocent, sweet smile. ‘She’ll kill me!’ it crossed his mind.   -       So? – She started. -       What? – He asked almost aggressively. -       To what do I owe your visit? – She asked undaunted. – You guys were supposed to be at the pub today, right? – She pointed out. -       We were. – He calmed himself down. – The guys are probably still there. -       And you? – Jay came closer and took a sip of her wine. She licked her lips. -       I wasn’t in the mood. – He looked away from her face. – What were you doing there? – He asked curiously and leaned against the kitchen counter. -       I was meditating. – She went to the kitchen island, jumped up lightly and sat down on the counter. – You should try. – She said and tilted her head, watching him closely. -       Try what? – He looked at her intrigued. -       Meditation. – She laughed.               That sonorous laugh sent a thrill of excitement in him. Her amazing eyes were at the same level as his. She was completely calm and composed. Unaware of what was happening to him. What was SHE doing to him! He wanted to look at her, listen to her voice, smell her. Jaysabel Tyler was a sweet torture for him.   -       You seem tense. Do you sleep well? – She asked breaking the awkward silence.               Cole set the bottle down with a clink. He suddenly pulled away from the counter and in a split second he was next to her. He put his hands on the top of the island, on both of her sides. Right next to her exposed tights, preventing her from escape. His handsome face was only few inches away from hers. His gorgeous blue eyes, now slightly darkened, were so close. His lips within hers.             A shiver went through her. She did not want to admit in front of herself that she missed his touch. His scent. And his lips. But she did not want to rush anything, so she waited patiently for his next move. Yet she could not help but look at his lips. He smirked, and that turned her on even more.             She forced herself to look back into his eyes.   -       I guess you’re well aware that I don’t sleep well lately. – He said in a low, deep voice that made her feel hot. – I can’t sleep. -       Why?  - She asked in a shaky voice. -       Because of you, sunshine. – He leaned over and brushed her lips. – You drive me insane! – She could hear anger in his voice. -       Sorry, I didn’t mean to. – For some reason she felt guilty. – If you tell me what irritates you about me, I’ll try to eliminate it. – She suggested. -       Why the idea that something about you irritates me? – He provoked. -       Cole… - Jay started but he cut in. -       I just can’t stop thinking about you! – He slipped his hands under her dress. – About your deep eyes and sweet lips. – He kissed her slowly, enjoying her taste.               She tasted of ripe wine. Sweet with a hint of herbs. He felt slightly dizzy. He moved one hand to her neck and held her, deepening the kiss. She parted her lips giving him access. Her hands passed under his shirt and the muscles of his stomach tightened as he felt her touch against his skin. He slipped his hand between her thighs and she let him. He moved higher. Slowly. Lazily. He could feel her muscles trembling.             Cole really wanted her to stop him. He did not want to hurt her in any way. But he knew himself too well to know that Jay will suffer because of him. And yet he was unable to stop himself. Her scent was intoxicating. Her taste and touch addictive. He wanted more. He was aware that he was approaching the edge from which he could no longer be able to turn back. ‘She’s out of reach, Sullivan!’ He scolded himself.             But he did not stop. His hand was still moving up. With the second one he grabbed her hair and clenched his fist the same moment his fingers reached the top. ‘f**k!’ He thought when he realized she was not wearing underwear. She hissed but did not back away.             He slipped his finger into her, he just could not stop himself.             At first he moved slowly and gently, gradually increasing speed and strength. He knew where and how to touch. The female body had no secrets from him. But this time he went too far. He was losing ground. And he did not want it. He had to save himself. ‘Just push me away!’ He begged in his mind.             But she was still close. Kissing him back. Touching him. Arching her gorgeous body. Moving her hips, following his rhythm. He knew she will hate him later. ‘Let it happen quickly, then!’ He thought. ‘I’m already doomed!’ He felt she was ready so he speeded up. And he drank every single moan from her lips.             She dug her nails into his sides when he brought her to the top and left her breathless. She rested her head on his shoulder. Her body was still shaking. When he kissed her neck, just over her pulse, a shiver ran down her spine. He stroke her back tenderly. She sensed that some change had taken place in him. She felt a strange pang of sadness.   -       Sunshine? – He said quietly. -       Yeah? – She groaned. -       You okay? – He asked with concern. -       Why shouldn’t I? – She asked back looking at him. -       Good to hear you’re fine. – He smirked. – I’ll better go now. – He said and caressed her cheek gently. – Go to sleep, sunshine. – He grabbed his jacket and headed towards the door. -       This is what it will look like? – She asked before he opened the door. -       What you mean? – He turned to face her. -       You’ll come to me, tease me, seduce me?! – She was already angry. -       It’s not like that. – He said. He had to defend himself somehow. -       No?! You’ve turned me on and now you’re just leaving! – She was pissed off. -       Believe me, it’s better for you! – He said dryly. – Before I go too far. -       Okay. – She swallowed her pride. She knew what kind of guy Cole was. She had to play his game. – Then go. -       Sunshine! – He felt guilty immediately. -       I’m fine with that, Cole. – She assured him. – Thanks for the ride. – She gave him her best seductive smile. -       Any time! – He chuckled, but he was disgusted with himself. – See you, sunshine! – He added and left.               Jay locked the door with a hand gesture. She did not want to risk he would come back. She was furious with herself because she allowed herself to believe that Cole Sullivan really took an interest in her. She knew his reputation, and yet she was stupid enough to be fooled by appearances. He was playing with her.              ‘And for f**k’s sake I let him!’ She thought angrily. She wanted him and did not try to deny or hide it. When he came to her, she really thought that she will get what she wanted. But he decided to retreat than take the next step. Was she too bold? Pushy? Shameless? She wanted to play his game and he folded. But maybe preferred her to remain a shy, silly country girl whom he could seduce? And she ruined his plans.             ‘At least I’m going to sleep as a baby now!’ She cheered herself. Was it wrong that she wished him to be frustrated and distracted? ‘He deserved it!’ She absolved herself, finished her wine and went to bed. ***                         He was sitting by the window in his luxurious apartment in Manhattan. He never chose anything cheap. Since he had power, he did not have to work to earn money. It was easier to charm people and he was damn good at it. It gave him almost physical pleasure. He loved manipulating mortals.             He stayed in touch with other supernatural beings, but he kept them to a minimum. Being unique was impossible among people with similar abilities. But there was another reason why he chose to live among mortals. He needed people to feed on their fear.             And this city had a great potential. He was delighted that the pursuit had just brought him to New York. It was not hard to find her. He could, of course, follow her energy, but it would take far too much of his precious time. He used the services of a witch, the only one Rufus trusted. Thanks to her, he was able to implement his plan much earlier than he expected. And now the whole city smelled of fear.             But not her. He could not sense her fear at all. All he could do was to pour the fear of his victims onto her. ‘The witch is really useful!’ He smiled diabolically. He showed her more each time. He sent her more emotions. Not only the girls’ fear, but also his hunger, thirst for blood, lust for murder. Yet she still showed no terror.             He stood up, went to the window and stared at the lights of the Big Apple. That girl will pay for Rufus’ death. ‘Why that i***t turned out to be so reckless?!’ He thought angrily. But he had to admit he underestimated Jaysabel Tyler himself. She had the power, but that made killing her even more challenging. And he loved challenges.             The door behind him opened and a middle-aged woman entered the room. She was tall and slim, with short black curly hair, brown eyes and dark olive skin. Dressed in an elegant suit did not resemble a witch. Only amulets revealed what she did.   -       When will we attack again? – She asked and sat comfortably in the armchair. -       I haven’t decided yet. – He answered and took a sip of his drink. -       She has to pay for what she did to Rufus and Ian! – The witch raised her voice. -       She will! – He growled. – But I will decide where and when! And above all, how long! -       Yes, Declan. – She said humbly and lowered her head. – Forgive me. -       Let her catch a breath. – He said. – What she experienced in Halloween really shocked her. – He smiled at the mere memory. – Let’s prepare something new and surprising for her. – He suggested. -       As you wish! -       I want to break her! Slowly and painfully! -       I’ll make sure that she suffers and begs for death. – She assured him. -       Good! – He said satisfied.
